Microsoft legal counsel Brad Smith said to the press that he believes that Microsoft has a “clear right” under the First Amendment to reveal just what data the government is requesting about users. It has also been reported that Google has concluded the same. All of this over the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
The two corporate giants plan to hash it out with the U.S. Government by filing suits.
Roy Carroll reported, “Microsoft’s general counsel, Brad Smith, made the announcement in a corporate blog post which complained of the government’s “continued unwillingness” to let it publish information about FISA requests.
