I picked this up from my library as soon as I saw it on the shelf. I loved Emily the Strange as a teenager, and I still do. As usual, the books was spooky, smart, and silly. I loved the lessons Emily learns about getting to know herself and taking control of her life. Even as an adult, I found them helpful. And of course, the cats are the best.

What a strange read What a strange read for a strange reader. This is surprisingly really good. I loved everything about this. I will be reading more.

Emily for President!!! She will take no shite from Trump that's for sure! This volume is a bit different in that the single story is the length of the issue, about her lost Aunt Larue and her quest to find her. I love the artwork so much; I prefer these graphic comic as opposed to the written novels. She's not bad, she's just black...!!! I just wish she was still relevant, I still enjoy the heck out of her. That is the set up for an otherwise metafiction exploration of time and storytelling. Emily's journey takes her through many different worlds or dimensions. It's a similar journey to what Lucy experiences in the third trade collection of Black Hammer (Black Hammer Volume 3: Age of Doom Part One). But Emily's journey is wackier and less adult. The 13th Hour begins on Emily's 13th birthday, a day of a solar eclipse, a day when a strange gift is sent by an aunt neither Emily or her mom have never met. Emily has some nightmares about falling and being chased by a witch like figure, awakens to her mom's planning her birthday, would rather do her own thing with her cat, Sabbath, then gets a cool gift from her Aunt Larue, a puzzle box. Emily works hard to crack the box, about to miss the eclipse her mother planned to watch with her, and di The 13th Hour begins on Emily's 13th birthday, a day of a solar eclipse, a day when a strange gift is sent by an aunt neither Emily or her mom have never met. As soon as Emily touches it, we are in for some Lewis Carroll level Strange.

I was at the library today letting my kids build origami Star Wars characters, and needed something to read while waiting for them. This was sitting on the shelf... There is something about Emily the Strange that just draws me... maybe it's the general color scheme :) but this one goes back a tad to show us Emily's 13th birthday, and all the trouble and awakenings that it brought. Thoroughly enjoyable way to spend 30 minutes or so. I was at the library today letting my kids build origami Star Wars characters, and needed something to read while waiting for them. Still love the comics. The look is wonderful and stylized. Especially like the red, black, white and purple page. Other colorization beyond the white, black, and red and the purple page, gets garish. There are some funny, dark laughs in the writing.

I have decided I don't like graphic novels of this sort. Hurts my eyes. I have decided I don't like graphic novels of this sort. Hurts my eyes.
