4.5 stars Ummm SO FUN. I love how much Lady Danbury we got in here and how fun Hyacinth and Gareth were. I feel like we didn't know much about Hyacinth so far in the series, so this sort of felt a little disconnected from the rest of the series. This isn't a book I was dying for and we didn't really get a ton of the Bridgerton family other than Violet and Gregory and one scene with Daphne. Hyacinth and Gregory were so fun together and I loved their banter. What made this book, though, were all of the scenes with Hyacinth, Gareth, and Lady Danbury. The banter, joking, and just overall love between those three was just adorable. I really loved how Gareth and Hyacinth really matched each other with their wit and banter. I enjoyed how they fell for each other and truly loved each other before wanting to get married. Like I said, though, this felt a little disconnected from the rest of the series and like it's own book, which made me miss the magic of the Brigdertons. But the romance was so adorable!

3.5 stars I am going to choke down every last Bridgerton book, even if it kills me. It won't, of course! <--that's just silly But it has begun to feel like I'm just re-reading the same characters and formulas in different circumstances with every book. It won't, of course! <--that's just silly But it has begun to feel like I'm just re-reading the same characters and formulas in different circumstances with every book. The beginnings of each book hook me in and I chide myself for ever looking skeptically at Quinn's work. And then about a third of the way in something happens to make me think the heroine is way more uptight than I thought she was when she was all lightness and witty banter. Around the halfway mark, the hero does something that doesn't necessarily make him outright unlikable, but does taint my view of him a bit. The ending drags because the heroine, who has usually stated somewhere along the way that she would be happy to marry a good man even if they were not in love, suddenly gets on a high horse and refuses the guy she loves because he did something to make her think he wasn't marrying her for love. What? This book was not really all that different. I was looking forward to reading Hyacinth's story because she was the youngest Bridgerton and always so opinionated and bold. <--I've really got to stop doing that. I looked forward to Eloise & Violet's stories because I thought they would be genuinely interesting and both times I was disappointed. Hyacinth, while not what I was hoping, was vastly superior to either of the other ladies, and I liked Gareth well enough. He had Daddy Issues that took their toll on the relationship, but nothing so wacky it caused me to roll my eyes. I'm looking at you, Anthony & Simon. The fun part of this book was the search for the jewels! At first. And then it kind of dragged on and on, and nothing much came of it till the second epilogue at the end. <---it was cute even if it got a little goofy. BUT. I kind of thought that the jewels would be more important than they were in the end. Like, a big part of Gareth's story was that his father hated him and was trying to bankrupt his title in order to leave Gareth with a mountain of debt to deal with after he died. So yeah. After all the time spent trying to figure out where they were, I thought the jewels should have had more meaning for them financially. I wish I'd read this one first because I think I would have enjoyed it more than I did now that I know Quinn's formula. However, this was still one of the better Bridgerton books for me.

Gareth yes! Series:Yes - one more and I'm done in Bridgertonville. Sniff. Sexy times: Couple of tame moments. No one is getting their freak on but there is plenty of of "Gareth more". Synopsis: This is Hyacinth's tale, oh she of the talented tongue which wields wordplay sharper than any sword. And because it's H's tale it's filled with witty, witty banter. Now H is fast approaching the shelf because she can outsmart nearly any idiot of the ton and just runs those silly boys off. Enter Gareth who comes from the supposed loins of an arsehole of a father who is basically beggaring the barony (omg alliteration!). G gets a hint of secret jewels from his grandmother and he and H are off and running. Cue Lady Danbury (sp?) - and lord knows we all have lots of love for that woman and her cane. Wield it, woman, wield it! (Wield apparently being my word of the night.) Add in a side of Gregory that makes me quake in anticipation of the next book, and folks, we have an adventure and a love story so let's get it on. Heroine: Hyacinth. The brilliant. The beautiful. The wielder of sarcasm. The quick of wit. The brave. The adorable. The loving. Hero: Oh Gareth, yes. Yes. Yes. Equally brilliant. Equally witty. Equally wielding the sword of sarcasm. High-sterical. This is my kind of hero. Why it did or didn't work for me: So, you get that this worked, right? I mean what was there not to work? It's a book filled with wonderful sarcasm, funny lines, quotes abound and a love story this is absolute perfection. Be still my heart. Gareth is my new Keating. 4.5 Amazing news everyone: I am finally out of my 2 week slump. All thanks to this book. I just sat yesterday binging the last 250 pages in one sitting that I didn't realize I was up late at night for it. Did I care? No. The book was wonderful and it got me out of my slump which was literally putting me in hell, okay. Time to celebrate. I'm a huge fan of Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series. I have been slowly reading through those books for 5 years. Yes, you read that right. I was taking my time with 4.5 Amazing news everyone: I am finally out of my 2 week slump. I have been slowly reading through those books for 5 years. Yes, you read that right. I was taking my time with them. And now that I only have one book left out of this series, it actually makes me want to cry because I'm pretty attached to this family and the characters. I'm so in love with it and I'm 0% ready to let it go. Hyacinth Bridgerton was a fantastic heroine. She was adorable, out-spoken and so lovely! I loved her relationship development with Gareth, who by the way, is gorgeous and so swoon-worthy. They're adorable together. So much banter and so much cuteness. Whenever I'm in a need of a good dose of romance, I always go for historical romance. The romance here was just what I needed! “I am asking you to marry me because I love you,” he said, “because I cannot imagine living my life without you. I want to see your face in the morning, and then at night, and a hundred times in between. I want to grow old with you, I want to laugh with you, and I want to sigh to my friends about how managing you are, all the while secretly knowing I am the luckiest man in town.” “What?” she demanded. He shrugged. “A man’s got to keep up appearances. I’ll be universally detested if everyone realizes how perfect you are.” What's so amazing about this series is how funny it is. I found myself laughing out loud yesterday at how hilarious it was. I especially love the scenes that involve the family or the siblings getting together and Hyacinth and her brother, Gregory's friendship was super funny and I can't wait to read Gregory's story i.e. the last book (cue my tears). I just love how tight this family is. It warms my heart. I highly recommend this series if you are a fan of historical romance!

I bounced on this for idiosyncratic reasons. I was mildly enjoying it for quite a bit. Hyacinth is a delight. She's smart and brave and willing to take chances, though she's a bit of a runner on the emotional front. I like every interaction with Hyacinth. I like that he appreciates and matches and encourages her. He's had a bad misstep, but he didn't know and couldn't have known how his post-first-kiss comment would have been taken. And he has recovered since then (though I'd have liked an actual resolution to that one, I'm happy how it shook out). But Gareth continually gives his evil father power over him. He's weak and ineffectual with the domineering jerk and I swear he loses a decade of maturity every time they interact. Yeah, some men hold onto pain like that but those are not admirable, or healthy for that matter, men. I cut out at about 60% when (view spoiler)[Gareth decides to use sex as a weapon to ensure Hyacinth is committed to him—to compromise her so that she cannot back out of marrying him. This is the basest of unilateral decision making and that it's motivated by his immaturity regarding his father makes it weak as well as evil. It's a betrayal of her agency and a cheapening of their connection (hide spoiler)] . So my casual dislike for him morphed to disdain with a side of disgust. And I just can't continue. I don't really care what Quinn does to redeem this, I'm just done with that guy. I know that's an unusually strong reaction for something that is a mistake by someone learning to be better. But I have zero tolerance for that kind of mistake and always have. And it's such a missed opportunity to enlist the Bridgertons on his behalf to combat his father. Why he didn't level with Anthony in the first place, I'll never know. Heck, his honor and training should have told him that not leveling with him was a severe breach of respect. Bah. I need to stop thinking about this. One star because Gareth is an immature idiot who gives his evil father free rent in his own head and makes a plan to betray Hyacinth in a base and cowardly way.

Thank heavens for Spring Cleaning! A year or so ago I began reading Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series and after devouring the first six books back to back, I set them aside and moved on to something else. Well here I am a year later and in the spirit of “Spring Cleaning,” I decided I’d catch up on those books that were just sitting on my shelves collecting dust, and that included the final two Bridgerton books. Gareth St. Clair is in a bind – that’s what the cover blurb tells us. Though I must admit, the first time I read that I was sure it said, ‘Gareth St. Clair is blind,’ so imagine my confusion when his eyesight seemed perfectly fine to me. It’s not that I was wishing him any harm or ill will, but I was all ready to embrace him as a vulnerable hero who needed someone to shine brightly in his lonely, dark world. Well, clearly, it’s my eyesight that is lacking. Where was I? Oh, yes… Gareth St. Clair is in a bind, and they aren’t kidding! His mother, brother and paternal grandmother are all long since deceased, and his father hates him. He has only one person who loves him, and who he loves in return – his grandmother, the one and only Lady Danbury – who really did steal the show. Despite Gareth’s perfect eyesight, I really did adore him, and he truly was vulnerable, but in ways that aren’t quite so apparent. Hyacinth Bridgerton is such a funny young woman. Sweet, smart, outspoken… I really loved her character. And there was something else about her that just seemed so honest, and so real. I loved how she accepted her imperfect self, and in fact, embraced it! It’s In His Kiss was such a wonderful story. The glaring contrast between Hyacinth Bridgerton’s life and family, and that of Gareth St. Clair, made this at times heartwarming as well as heartbreaking, but leave it to the Bridgertons to look beyond titles and peerage, to see the worth of the person within, and embrace him. This was one of those books that’s the perfect combination of lighthearted and serious, and was an absolute delight to read.

I missed reading those historical novels that makes you want to brew a cup of tea, sit and draw delight in their scandalous affairs. There is relatively nothing to take in these novels except the amorous attitudes of those of the 19th century but it sure makes a good book to pass time on. With the new hype over Bridgerton it’s only natural these become more popular but I belong to that group that read Julia Quinn way before Bridgerton was even conceived in the head of Shonda Rhimes and yes I hav I missed reading those historical novels that makes you want to brew a cup of tea, sit and draw delight in their scandalous affairs. Pass your judgement. These books are like my guilty pleasures and I rather keep them in the novel version so forego the adaptation and most probably will continue to. But that doesn’t mean I won’t stray back to these once in a while. After all I have only one more left in the series, I might as well find it and read.

She was sometimes vexing, occasionally infuriating but always entertaining. ... and Lady Danbury has a starring role in this book. I adore her too. "Something important is always about to happen, my dear girl," Lady Danbury said. "And if not, you'd do well to act as if it were. You'll enjoy life better that way." “He didn’t know where the thought had come from, or what strange corner of his brain had come to that conclusion, because he was quite certain it would be nearly impossible to live with her, but somehow he knew that it wouldn’t be at all difficult to love her.” I end up swooning at the words that Julia Quinn puts forth in these books ... delicious morsels that make me so happy. Yes, the characters might have their ups and downs but one knows that, at the end of the day, there will be perfection ... "It's a lovely language, so melodious and smooth ..." It is a lovely language. Everything sounds better in Italian ... even my name. "Maura", so boring when everyone else says it but as soon as an Italian colleague says it, it becomes something completely different ... He pronounces it "Mowrrrra" ... rolls the "r" and one feels like the heroine in a romantic novel ... LOL (yes, losing the plot a bit here)! Of course we all know this series is coming on Netflix in the near future. I am a little bit wary... it is hard to transfer a favourite book to screen - one such example Matthew MacFayden as Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (I will take Colin Firth, no problem) but whoever cast that dweeb McF needs to be fired ... A little bit of mystery and adventure added to the story ... and that Epilogue - every book should have an Epilogue! “‘If you want to know if a gentleman loves you,’ her mother said, ‘there is only one true way to be sure.’” Lady Danbury leaned forward. Even Hyacinth leaned forward, and she was holding the book. “‘It’s in his kiss,’ her mother whispered. ‘It’s all there, in his kiss.’”

I liked the way she was acting because she’s genuine. She knows that she has her faults and she accepts the reality. That’s why I believe that she’s one of the most interesting characters in this series. Gareth… What can I say about him? I adore him! He’s a notorious rake and a perfect match for Hyacinth. Everyone thinks that he just wants to have fun and seduce young women but that’s not true. It’s obvious that he’s sad because with the exception of his grandmother, he hasn’t anyone else to care about or care for him. He’s really smart and I was glad to see that at the end he realized what was truly important for him! A great story in an amazing series!

So, I may as well go for broke and move on to #8, Gregory's story. This character was probably mentioned the least in all the books. So I'm anxious to see where she takes him.

Another favorite from the Bridgertons series! Just like An Offer From a Gentleman and To Sir Phillip, With Love, it is a sweet, light romance with lots of humor. I loved both Gareth and Hyacinth. All of their dialogues and scenes, especially the erotic ones, were fascinating. Even the Smythe-Smith performances were delightful with them. The appearances of Lady Danbury, Lady Bridgerton and Gregory make the novel even more enjoyable. It’s In His Kiss is a perfect Julia Quinn! My favorite quotes. I just realized one of my all-time favorites did not have a review! How did this happen?! I'm so ashamed. Gareth and Hyacinth are one of my all-time favorite match-ups because they are so NORMAL. And I never get tired of reading their second epilogue where after 20 years they still love and laugh and truly understand each other. I've re-read this book countless times and at one point, I had two copies of it. It is magic every time I read it. JQ will always have a special place in my heart for giving me this story. I never get enough of it.

This one, to me, is quintessential Quinn. It has a simple plot with great characters- love Hyacinth, Garth, Lady Danbury. It is satisfying and lovely. The line is for the top and bottom tier separator. Top tier are books I can read and read again any day of the week. Bottom tier are books that I have no desire to reread unless part of a challenge (like reading a series). The orders have changed some in this reread but the tiers have not.

Reread. It was a funny, sweet and fun read. Love a spunky heroine. Not my favorite of the series but still very good compared to what we have out there now for historical romances.

“I would give the world to have one more person for whom I would lay down my life.” “It’s in His Kiss” is Hyacinth Bridgerton’s story of finding love. Being very particular about her match, one might think she’d never find it. God knows her family thought so. You see Hyacinth was no shrinking violet but rather a tough cookie. She always had something to say and was a very curious lady. Always poking about wanting to know what was going on. So when Gareth St. Clair paid a visit to her brot “I would give the world to have one more person for whom I would lay down my life.” “It’s in His Kiss” is Hyacinth Bridgerton’s story of finding love. So when Gareth St. Clair paid a visit to her brother Anthony the Viscount to let him know of his intent to marry Hyacinth, Anthony’s response was “thank you, Lord”. Of course he gave his blessing. LOL I loved these two together. I’m not sure if their meeting was completely a planned event but Lady Danbury certainly gave her approving nudge. Gareth was her grandson and oh how she adored him. The thought of a match with Hyacinth thrilled her. What unfolds between Gareth and Hyacinth will warm your heart. It sure did mine! ❤’d their moments - good and bad. ❤’d the moments between Hyacinth and her mother Violet. ❤’d the moments between Hyacinth and Lady D. ❤’d the moment Gareth realized he loved her. To quote him it came out as “I love you, you idiot woman.” LOL She was maddening, frustrating and never knew when to stop talking and he still loved her. Now if that isn’t true love then I don’t know what is. ❤’d the second Epilogue too. I have very much enjoyed this series and I will be sad when I reach the end. Only one more book to go. Looking forward to Gregory’s story. We get a bit more of him in this one. Seems to be a funny character. I wonder what Julia has in store for him.

Reading to myself and smiling like a fool! What an adorable couple! Some of my favorite scenes: The poetry recital that included a unicorn. Their banter is so cute! The sneaking out to search for the jewels when Gareth realizes that, for the first time, he is "the more sensible one of the duo". I love that Hyacinth surprised him. When Gregory was teasing his sister mercilessly. The lisping part was funny, but his little jabs during the tea was so brother-like. Made me miss my brother. It started as a flower, she messed it up, then turned it into a chick, messed it up, and decided to turn it into a cat. Throughout the whole book, I just loved this couple. They are so witty and fun. I totally want them as our couple-best-friends.

“If you want to know if a gentleman loves you, her mother said, there is only one true way to be sure. It’s in his kiss, her mother whispered. It’s all there, in his kiss.” OH MY GOD THIS BOOK EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS I HAD FOR HYACINTH’S STORY. I ALSO THINK IT’S MY FAVOURITE BOOK IN THIS SERIES, WHICH I DIDN’T EXPECT AT ALL! ALSO HOW ON EARTH DID I READ THIS SO FAST?? What an amazing book! I had obviously been waiting for Hyacinth’s story for a while, and she did not disappoint one bit. ALSO HOW ON EARTH DID I READ THIS SO FAST?? What an amazing book! I had obviously been waiting for Hyacinth’s story for a while, and she did not disappoint one bit. She was headstrong, unafraid of getting what she wanted, and just an amazing character all around! Finally reading about her was so entertaining and made suffering through so many female characters who would never speak their minds worth it because she made up for it a hundred times over. “I’m impressed,” Hyacinth said, peering back out the window. “You’re impressed by strange things,” he said, brushing himself off. “Anyone can bring flowers,” she said with a shrug. “Are you saying all a man needs to do to win your heart is scale a building?” She looked back out the window. “Well, he’d have to do a bit more than this. Two stories, at the very least.” Gareth! I didn’t have many expectations for his character since I obviously had no idea who he was before this book, but he was such a great character! He was the perfect balance of reserved and outspoken, and seeing him work towards placing his love for Hyacinth before his hatred for his father was fantastic. Gareth turned to Gregory. “Your sister will be safe with me,” he said. “I give you my vow.” “Oh, I have no worries on that score,” Gregory said with a bland smile. “The real question is—will you be safe with her?” I really really enjoyed the plot of this book. (I feel like I have to mention that because I hated the plot of some of the other Bridgerton books.) I loved how Hyacinth and Gareth an actual goal to accomplish rather than the only plot line of the book being their relationship like some other books in this series! I also adored how much we got to see of Ms. Danbury and Lady Bridgerton. Also, can I just say, I think this book made me laugh more than any other book in the series! Hyacinth was hilarious, and her and Gareth’s banter was just so funny. ALSO, IF YOU READ THIS BOOK BUT NOT THE 2ND EPILOGUE, READ IT! IT WAS AMAZING! *4.5 MY BLOG <3 MY SPOTIFY <3

I'm so glad that I read Hyacinth's story for last because if I had read Gregory's the ending of the series would have left me with bad taste in my mouth. This way instead I regained my love for this series! Hyacinth and Gareth are perfect for each other! Hyacinth is fantastic with her quick wit and her intelligence. She's afraid of nothing! Her plain speaking was a joy to read! Gareth is great too. I loved how Hyacinth make him crazy! LOL And what to say about Lady D? WOW, just WOW! Hmm, didn’t really like this Bridgerton story. I was looking forward to a real firecracker of a heroine with Hyacinth Bridgerton, but I thought her character was watered down compared to how she was described in the previous novels as this very independent minded I go my own way kind of heroine. She reminded me of Colin in that the character was somewhat of a letdown once their story was told. Hyacinth ends up meeting Gareth St Clair at the annual Smythe-Smith musicale, a Bridgerton staple event Hmm, didn’t really like this Bridgerton story. She reminded me of Colin in that the character was somewhat of a letdown once their story was told. Hyacinth ends up meeting Gareth St Clair at the annual Smythe-Smith musicale, a Bridgerton staple event (where the reader knows they’re going to get a good laugh or two) and things start off well. She offers to help him translate an old Italian diary that’s been in his family for years because he doesn’t want to give it to anyone in case his father gets his hands on it. The story starts off well enough but then it just fizzles into what you know is going to be one of those annoying “adventures” where there’s less focus on the romance. Even the steam is on the dullish side. I’m not a fan of silly caper romances and this one went too far with that particular theme turning it into something dumb when Quinn usually does something smart with her novels. The relationship between Hyacinth and Gareth was mediocre at best and they often felt like friends instead of lovers. Some of the other members of the Bridgerton clan show up from previous books giving the series the familiarity that readers look for and there were also more parts with Gregory that were hilarious –that kind of brother and sister non-stop jabbing. Lady Danbury also has a more prominent role in the story and she’s a riot with her sharp tongue. As usual Quinn’s writing style is top notch but I thought the story itself didn’t come together as well as her other ones. It was missing some pizzazz to set it apart from the typical romance novel. If you liked the first two stories in the Bridgerton series you’ll likely enjoy this one because they’re along the same tone. I preferred the more original/different ones in between. It has it's good parts giving it a weak 4 star rating but it's not as good as Julia Quinn normally can do.

A hidden treasure and the mystery around who Gareth's dad may be. I enjoyed both trying to sleuth on who might be his real dad and also going on the treasure hunts with Hyacinth and Gareth. This book had a different feel to it almost like the author was trying something new out. At times, she would tell us what the "hero" or "heroine" was doing. I don't remember the author using those terms in the previous books to describe the characters. And I also don't remember being told what the characters were doing like we were listening to an old-timey radio show. One other thing that stood out to me was the Bridgerton mother. The way she spoke felt different than in the other books. Maybe, it's just me that felt it was off. Either way, I still enjoyed the book. Don't forget on Christmas day 2020 this series is being released on Netflix. "It's in His Kiss" is the seventh book in the Bridgerton series. The Bridgerton children are marrying off one by one. Even though they are named in alphabetical order from oldest to youngest, their love matches don't all happen in that order. If you start this series make sure to read it in series order. Lovers of stories about friends-to-lovers will enjoy this romance. Below are the 7th books I've read, so far.

I love the Bridgerton family. There are eight children, each with their own story. I have enjoyed the stories and I look forward to reading the last book, Gregory's story. The characters are well-rounded and personable. This reader became wrapped up in their lives. It's nice having the Bridgerton siblings show up in the story. The plot and subplots are predictable; however, they keeps the reader turning pages to solve the mysterious secrets and reach the happily-ever-after. There are two epilogues, which is original for this story. Steamy love scenes are present in this novel.

Gareth & Hyacinth forever! “Grant me one favor,” he said softly, “and don’t say a word.” And then He kisses her.. I loved everything about this story! The mystery. The intrigue. Friends to lovers. Gareth & Hyacinth were perfectly matched in every way, even if it took Gareth a little longer to see it. I love how she had a revelation about Gareth early on, and didn’t let go of it. “Because in that moment she knew that she was going to marry this man. No one else would do.” When you know, you know. This story was just so amazingly perfect.
