I received this book from the publisher as a Goodreads First Read. The text contains the English on one side with the German translation next to it on the facing page, making it easy to glance over for the translation as needed. The translator seems to have done a great job interpreting Doyle's classic story "The Hound of the Baskervilles". I enjoyed reading the German translation and would highly recommend it for anyone studying German, especially for those at the intermediate level. I enjoyed reading the German translation and would highly recommend it for anyone studying German, especially for those at the intermediate level. On the downside, I found many typos. Apparently, no German language editor was employed to proofread the translation. German teachers could use editing the German text as an assignment. Although I find it astounding that a book would be published with so many typos, I still found the book well worth reading.

I'm reading this book currently and I too am surprised at the number of typos I've found in both languages. The ones I've caught have been minor, but it's clear the editing wasn't very thorough. I'm a beginner in studying German and I wanted something to read that would be familiar but also challenging, since I'm tired of DuoLingo exercises with only one sentence at a time. (I do enjoy DuoLingo immensely, but I'm tired of ridiculous things like "I like your dress.") Because of my language comprehension level I'm going back and forth between "I have no idea what this paragraph is saying without the English translation," and "Hey I actually recognize a lot of these words and I sort of understand this context." Overall, I'm definitely enjoying the opportunity to re-read "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and also get to know it in a new language.
