Who knew something puked up by an insect could be so delicious?"), style and beauty ("Thou shalt not listen to thine mother."), and living (Vacation suggestions from Sicily to New York. What to do when you realize you're still drunk at work.). No Stepford Wife aspirations here, instead, this guide offers an aspiration to live life to the full but with permission to be imperfect. Instead of compromising on fun, the domestic sluts will teach readers the quick and easy ways to do domestication on the go—as well as revealing how to make a damn good cocktail. The frequent use of the word Slut(s) and the constant references to drunkenness and hangovers are repellant. Typefaces were often annoying and mini-interviews with various women who I've never heard of (collectively termed "The Sluts") were strange....the best thing about this book is the pictures and prints, somewhat Cath Kidston-esque, totally belying the overall feel of the book. Many of the recipes were the exact opposite of the less for more ideals I was hoping for....suggesting pizza that you make after work, involving mixing up dough and allowing time for it to rise, etc etc is not practical. Unless you finish work at noon I guess. I was hoping that the title was a metaphorical one, but it is very very literal. This book covers food and drink, fashion, style and beauty, home decor, entertaining, travel and cleaning in 176 picture filled pages. It could easily be entitled Tart's Guide to a (Slightly) Less Tarty Life. Of particular interest would be the two-page chart on matching clothing and accessories for a night out to the prospective level of alcohol intake, ie if you plan to drink yourself senseless, flat shoes and a cross-body bag are de rigeur. Similarly the suggestions for dealing with varying degrees of hangovers. If you are a woman who only wants to take enough time away from your binge drinking, late-night partying and hung-over days to read ONE book, covering the above topics, and hope that it will give you a veneer of civility and class, then this is the book for you. Just bear in mind the veneer will be very thin.

I absolutely adore the Domestic Sluttery website. It's a treasure trove of lovely little things, yummy recipes and all kinds of good tips. But, alas, £15 for one book is a little on the steep side for me - a girl's on a budget after all - so I haven't been able to get it until, just this week, by some happy chance I came across it in Barnardos. There I was, perusing the teacups (I don't even drink tea, but they're so pretty!) and contemplating the purchase of another book or two (you can never have too many!) when I saw it. So here I find myself, at last, with a copy of the Domestic Sluttery book - and for £1.99 no less! Having looked through it I have to say - it's not a bad book. It's ever so pretty and there are a few good ideas that I'll be hanging on to. *COUGH CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE BROWNIE COUGH* The advice on vintage shopping was rather good and there were some fun suggestions for putting a bit of character into decorating your home. But the catch is this - sure, these are good ideas, but they're nothing groundbreaking. There's really nothing in here that you couldn't come up with by yourself. Most of the advice is common sense, tarted up, if you'll forgive the pun! I did enjoy it - and I suspect so would any other Domestic Sluttery reader - but if I had paid £15 for it, I would have been disappointed. It was fun, but I was expecting fabulous.

Well, I did not like it. I got it for free, that's why I was patient with it and to be honest, I find it hard to imagine myself ever paying money to buy this item. Too commercial, poor infos, unreliable advices, etc. The plus: I like the the design of this book and its illustrations. I picked one or two cooking recipes of the book for myself. That's it! Personally I don't think this book deserves a place in my shelf. Much more economical and convenient to find the recipes on the internet! P/s: No Well, I did not like it. I discovered this blog in the last year of its life and really enjoyed the mix it offered while it was running of random bits and pieces that were very useful to life. I had high hopes for this book, but it turned into more of a mediocre tips book with nothing millions of articles (I imagine, not having read all of them) have hashed and rehashed before.
