This next book is by Geneva Holliday and it’s called Heat and to be honest the name kind of threw me. I bought the book because Before you read this beautiful review be sure to check out my Youtube shelf where you can see my antics about this book in person: 61. This next book is by Geneva Holliday and it’s called Heat and to be honest the name kind of threw me. I bought the book because one the cover was hot and the title let me know that it was going to be oh so good. Don’t get me wrong it was good just a different type of good than I was expecting. So, let’s get into it. The story takes place in New York City and it had four characters who are all friends that I loved to read. Noah whose story is based around the fact that he wants to adopt and his boyfriend doesn’t, so he takes the hard way out and learns. When he comes home to New York he learns about Chevy and I got to tell you she was the second most interesting because she has a habit of spending money as quickly as she receives it. Her job gives her all these things and she is a living in Noah’s home and I got to tell you she is slob. Oh, my goodness. Her story is interesting because she is just ugh. You see her go from the top to rock bottom fast. Geneva is a mother of one who is dealing with weight issues the wrong way. She starts taking these pills that make her a bit delusional. She starts attacking everyone she cares about and the whole time I’m thinking you know you could just work out and eat right I mean jeez. And Crystal, my favorite character who finds it difficult to find love so what does she do. Oh, she goes to Antigua and her lover is there. Yes, she has a man on an island I mean how lucky is that. She ends up finding herself in a predicament a huge one too and ends up finding what she wants for herself. I loved this story not just because everyone is connected but really because everybody had to really grow up in this story. They had to look in the mirror and say to themselves can I be better woman or a better friend and really what they wanted out of life. I would say this is positive storytelling and what true friendship is. My favorite part was when Noah put his foot down and hit Chevy with a dose of reality. Yeah that was my favorite part because without that act Chevy would not have grown up so yeah that was my favorite part. A feel-good book and if you happen to find the author of this book make sure you find them and share this with them. As long as authors keep writing I will keep reading.

Friends are often defined as the family we get to choose. In choosing these friends we try to make sure that they are not as crazy as our real family and understanding enough not to pass judgment even when we do stupid stuff. Let's start with Chevy. Girlfriend loves to stay ahead of the Joneses by rocking all the new fashions even if that means not paying the rent. Then there's Noah, our closest girlfriend that happens to be male, who lets Chevy live in his crib practically rent-free. Lucky for Friends are often defined as the family we get to choose. Girlfriend loves to stay ahead of the Joneses by rocking all the new fashions even if that means not paying the rent. Then there's Noah, our closest girlfriend that happens to be male, who lets Chevy live in his crib practically rent-free. Lucky for Chevy, Noah is in love and lying up with his man in London having back-banging sex. Poor Crystal wishes she had a man to cook breakfast for to take her mind off work and that biological time clock. Finally, there's Geneva, who has tried just about every weight-loss regimen known to man. Speaking of man, she has a pretty young thang by the name of Deeka who is fine with her love handles and cushioning, and lays it down to show her just how much. Make sure you turn down the A/C before feel the HEAT of this hot, sexy, and sultry novel from Geneva Holliday. Heat, the third installment in the Geneva Holliday series, takes the reader on a wild ride with four unforgettable characters that are sure to leave you talking. This novel is full of laughter and hot steamy sex. I finished this novel quickly because I didn't want to put it down. I fell in love with the characters because I could relate to them all. I have to say Holliday created a down to earth group of friends who I totally could relate. I also appreciated the fact that even though this was the third book in the series I was able to finish it. Sometimes when you read series you have to start at the first one. I wasn't aware of this series until I read the back cover and at that point, I was done. Each character held his own. Heat is quick read with a rock solid plot. It has that old school urban fiction feel back when Eric Jerome Dickey, Omar Tyree and E. Lynn Harris hit the scene and took the literary world by storm. This book presents African-American characters that you can relate to without all the vulgar and inappropriate language. My favorite character is Chevy. Chevy is just a small town girl at heart trying her best to never return to that place where people Payless for more. Ya'll know I'm always rooting for the underdog, right. I think that we have all been a Chevy at one time or another. Have you ever looked back at something vowing to never return but realizing later that it was where you really belonged? My favorite quote comes from my second favorite character, Geneva's six-year-old daughter Charlie. Charlie participated in the school talent show and recited her poem: "My mother's belly shakes like jelly! My mother's belly shakes like jelly! Jelly, jelly, jelly!" Yes, imagine that being your child talking about your belly shaking like jelly. Kids! Got to love'em and Holliday captures a priceless moment. Ha Ha Ha!

Heat by Geneva Holliday is the third in the series and focuses on the continuing antics of Geneva, Crystal, Noah, and Chevy. In this episode, Crystal is disgruntled with her high stress job, hectic city life and at every turn runs to her lover/gigolo in Antigua for comfort. Can she love a man who sleeps with women for a living? Geneva is publicly humiliated at her six year-old's school play when she discovers the poem her child recites is about Mommy's "jelly belly." Can she love a man who sleeps with women for a living? Geneva is publicly humiliated at her six year-old's school play when she discovers the poem her child recites is about Mommy's "jelly belly." She then decides to tackle her weight problem with the aid of diet pills with some very interesting and frightening results that jeopardize her relationships, friendships, and her job. Noah and his partner are at a stalemate regarding the step toward parenthood, so he returns to New York to battle the newly arrived "hood rats" next door and evicts Chevy for utterly trashing his apartment in his absence. Chevy, the vain and snobby fashionista, is thus humbled. She is left homeless and moneyless wandering the streets and resorts to very desperate and dangerous measures to secure a roof over her head. Heat is an entertaining, quick read - perfect for the summer book bag. It is filled with witty dialogue, humor, drama, and (borrowing from the novel's title) some steamy "sex-capades." It is definitely a "must read" for fans of the series - if only to seek closure with the characters introduced in the first two books (Groove, Fever).
