Lovely illustrations although juliet looked like a different person on some pages...

I was hoping this would be a good replacement for the play for a lower level reading class. Unfortunately, it left out and/or changed several important details in the story.

This book was fine I didn't like it because it was graphic novel form and i just don't like the story that much. This book was fine I didn't like it because it was graphic novel form and i just don't like the story that much.

I read this book because I thought I could use it as a supplemental text for my English 9 students. The story moves quickly, with spare dialogue that maintains the tone of Shakespeare but that retains little of the original language. You will, however, recognize some of the play’s most famous metaphors, including: “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.” The book is brief, perhaps too brief. However, reluctant readers will be able to use this text to quickly grasp the basic conflicts and actions I read this book because I thought I could use it as a supplemental text for my English 9 students. Although this graphic novel simplifies much of the story of Romeo and Juliet and the disagreement between the two families while also leaving out much of William Shakespeare's language, it still may find a receptive audience in readers struggling to understand the play. Still, it's encouraging to note that the Bard's story lives on in this format.

Retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a graphic novel. All the main points and elements are the same as they are in the original play, some wording is put into more modern day form, but the story is still the same. Drawings are well done and graphic, the use of color was done well even though the book as a whole was very dark looking. Retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a graphic novel. A combination of abridging and simplifying the original text to give readers the gist of what's going on and playing a highlight reel of all the most well known quotes. Its a perfect vehicle to introduce the play to those just getting to Shakespeare. One of the more condensed adaptations. The servant scenes are basically nonexistent and everything else happens very quickly. Monologues are reduced to a few sentences. Seems like more of a teaching tool than a work of art.

Perfect for reading with a kid!

illustrations fit the story very well and it's refreshing to see a classic re-imagined in this way. It works well and is definitely worth a look. illustrations fit the story very well and it's refreshing to see a classic re-imagined in this way. It works well and is definitely worth a look.

It was a nice little treat!

Disappointing! The language is loosely paraphrased at best, and the illustrations didn't do much for me. Disappointing! The language is loosely paraphrased at best, and the illustrations didn't do much for me.

I think the book is a good way of introducing Shakespeare at the elementary level.
Candi Lynn –
A brilliant retelling of the classic tale.
Ellie Rose McKee –
This graphic novel makes the ridiculous tale of Romeo and Juliet enjoyable for me, which is no small feat.
