The United States Constitution: A Round Table Comic is an educational and creative look at this nation’s founding document. The illustrations of the Constitution are kind of odd though; using a chorus of characters from different time-periods and even robots and cyborgs from the future (probably done to offset the white maleness of Colonial times). For an educational comic, The United States Constitution: A Round Table Comic is pretty good and will give kids a solid understanding of how the government works (theoretically).

I’m not going to supply a synopsis. If you don’t know the synopsis you should, at least, pick up this book to learn more about this amazing, groundbreaking and historic document. Right off the bat I liked that the author included the Founding Fathers in the title of this comic graphic adaptation. The United States Constitution: A Round Table Comic Graphic Adaptation by Nadja Baer (Adapter), Thomas Jefferson (Author), John Adams (Author), Thomas Paine (Author), James Madison (Author) and Nathan Lueth (Illustrator) takes the US Constitution and, using the original text, presents it in an easy to understand graphical format. This is a short book but, and this is a big but, it contains 100 percent of the original text of the supreme law of these United States as well as pictures and narrative to communicated the concepts which are foreign to so many people. I am by no means a Constitutional scholar, but I have read the document (and even keep a pocket edition in my car). I also find Constitutional law very interesting and follow all Supreme Court cases. I even find the Supreme Court opinions a fascinating read, especially those that I disagree with. I think that it’s sad that most people don’t realize how much do Supreme Court cases affect our every day lives and that not only it is our right to pay attention, but it is our duty as citizens. In the past 10 years some of the decisions made by the Court were outrageous, un-American and dangerous to our democracy; yet went unnoticed by the majority of registered voters. But what can you expect from people that see voting as a “chore” instead of a privilege? For more reviews and bookish posts please visit: http://www.ManOfLaBook.com

I’ve wanted to re-read through the Constitution for a while and this came across my desk, thought I might give it a try. This was ok. I was hoping for more insight, as then summary promised.

lotsa primary sources in this. caricature style art. Didn't so much care for the female president in a steam punk outfit, or the senate in their half greek half modern clothes. Great resource to expose kids to the constitution in a fun way. lotsa primary sources in this. caricature style art. I used this as a teaching tool with my students. The depth of conversation that this book sparked was fantastic, but some of the tangents made it a bit difficult to teach for true understanding. That said, I look forward to more by Nadja Baer and will happily add more by her to my classroom library.

Didn't realize you could make something as mind numbing as early American politics so entertaining. Didn't realize you could make something as mind numbing as early American politics so entertaining.

A graphic novel adaption of the drafting of the Constitution featuring the usually players as well as robots, dandies and a steampunk president (who is a woman!) Basically don't show this book to anyone who works at Fox News or they will piss themselves. I loved the fresh style of artwork. It reminded me of the "Liberty's Kids" TV show with a bit of an older edge to it. Definite recommendation to help explain the Constitution and this part of our nation's history A graphic novel adaption of the drafting of the Constitution featuring the usually players as well as robots, dandies and a steampunk president (who is a woman!)
