What a kooky story! Naturally I enjoyed it just for that factor alone. The characters cracked me up, and it was nice to get away from the dramatic "serious" characters that seem to dominate teen novels these days. Just having fun and being who you want to be, such a good concept for a book... then throw in a subtle dystopian future setting with some serious topics in there as well. The ending was a bit abrupt, but I suspect that was the point. Definitely a fun read.

The book was a big ole jumbled up mess of a story. It was a YA book but somehow I think using the word 'penis' several times throughout the book and two 16 year old girls going to a XXX rated theater to search for a 'forest of the aforementioned male organs' is NOT your typical YA read. It was not a funny book and the characters would ramble on and on for a whole chapter about subjects that were really way over the knowledge level of any normal young adult teen and it just jumped all over the pla The book was a big ole jumbled up mess of a story. It was not a funny book and the characters would ramble on and on for a whole chapter about subjects that were really way over the knowledge level of any normal young adult teen and it just jumped all over the place. Plus the fact that the teens were left alone for days and weeks at a time while their parents were out traveling around the world. Just all kinds of weird and not very realistic in terms of how young adults really do things. I feel it was a waste of my time in reading this book and the ending was just plain ole depressing....I say go find something worth your time to read....this isn't the book for that.

Scott Zimmerman, author of Milkshakes and Gamma Rays, has woven a humourous and interesting tale that gives you the inside look at the thoughts and antics of a group of spirited high school students. If you know (or have) any witty, opinionated teens you’ll love this book and so will they. As the group meanders through a week of fun and adventure you are taken on a journey of mythical stories, fairy tales and adventures. Of course these tales are all a little twisted by imaginative teenage minds, but they are indeed entertaining. The story, told for the most part by Brie, takes you from Ms. Pacman to Alfred Hitchcock and back again, with a few side trips down secluded forest paths. Are you looking for a light, enjoyable read? Maybe something to bring a chuckle and smile to a boring day? This is the book to fill that void. Bring along a bucket of popcorn to munch while you watch old movies with Brie and her new friends.

I'm glad I read this one, but it does have its issues. The first 70% or so of the book was really, really slow. Then, it was optimistic and frightfully dark, all at once, when things did pick up. The character-building was great, but it was well over halfway through the book before the details of the world really came through clearly. I was personally tickled pink by the Harold and Maude reference, though. The book is well written for the most part, if a little raw feeling. In the end, its entertaining moments were worth slogging through the slow ones for. And the final chapter is refreshingly dark, for a book about teenagers, in a realistic, non-supernatural way.
