He makes her promise to be celibate for him until he's ready to 'claim' her. aww sweet "You still a virgin, baby?" "You still untouched?” "You still got your cherry?" he actually asks her that! "You're gonna fuckin' belong to me. Just as soon as you get grown, I've told you before. But you need to take care, protect what's mine, or all bets are off and I'll move in now. Your choice. I'll give you time and space but you gotta promise. Nobody fucks you. Now. Promise now." at this point I started to take this less seriously and treated it more like a stupid comedy. As he's attending her birthday he finds out she's 22 these are his words... She was twenty-too. And that meant he could have her. Now. "...Have I told you happy birthday yet?" "Yeah, well I think it's more like happy birthday to me. You Know what I mean?" Oh I think she knows what you mean... So he drags her from her party and drives her back to his house and are immediately in his bedroom and strips her naked. "You're not on birth control, are you" "I'm clean, baby, I promise. What are the chances you could get pregnant tonight?" yeah what are the chances? "Can't you use something?" she asked "I could use something. But I really, truly do not want to take your virginity with a condom between us. I'll do it if I have to. I just don't want to have to." "We'd handle it together, okay? Are you close to ovulation or not?" "No, I'm pretty sure I'm not, but you know what they say, shit happens." I should have gave up here. Nope. I continued Let me just say that they did end up using a condom much to the guys dismay. that was pretty much the hole book. Stupid. Pointless. Smut. Even though its already short, it could have been shorter and been one of those 20-30page smut books I usually read. I still like this author though and still continue the read her stuff.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Somehow this book did not work for me. The elements were all there but it was flat. It's like your waiting to sneeze but then nothing happens or when you reach for your wine at the table and find only your water. I read a review saying he was too alpha but I did not find that at all. He was respectful and always did what she asked. He wanted her to sleep in his arms after sex and stay the night (something that is way outside his comfort zone) but she wanted to go home so he drove her home. Do you get what I am saying here? These are not the signs of a very assertive alpha man it's just a regular guy trying to protect the woman he loves. That's all well and good but it makes for a boring read. Not really passionate blow your mind sex that I have come to expect from these alpha Heroes. Not a keeper and I will not be reading it again. Plus side it was a good little story just not a stand out for me.

This is my first Lynda Chance book and I have to say, I wasn't impressed. Maybe I should have read a different one. Nothing in this really worked for me. I did not feel the connection between Raul and Elaina at all. I have no idea what drew them together. I hated that Elaina mentioned she "feared" Raul several times. I don't want my heroines to fear the hero. But, I could kind of see where she was coming from. I didn't see anything tender or sweet from him towards her at all. I wanted to bitch slap her. She acted more like a wishy-washy hormonal 17 year old than a grown-ass woman, which by the way, she was trying to be. For example (view spoiler)[when she gives Raul her virginity, she says she's ready....wants it to be him. Then, when she realizes he wants more than that (not sure why she didn't figure that out before that moment) she freaks and has a melt down and wants to go home (hide spoiler)] How is that a mature reaction? She could not even express to him how she was feeling and why. I don't know that I even want to read the next one. I do plan to try another book by this author and hope it's different.

Staking his Claim is how hookup into love romance should be done. The heroine made the hero work for her by going on dates doing things a as a couple. One could see the sex wasn't the only thing tying them together. They didn't deal with external issues like family drama or inner mental health issues. I loved the story and loved the writing style by the author. Alpha Spanish heritage rancher Raul Vega sees Elaina Ruiz at a neighbor's party and basically 'stakes his claim' on her although she is much younger than him. The overall book was so worth the price I said (99 cents), but I would have gladly paid much more if this book would have been more fleshed out. It's hard to balance a short read with enough development not to short change the reader and in this case I felt that way. It started out fantastic and developed into a book I settled into knowing I had to read it all. It was that good a premise/plot. In my opinion, because that's what I'm doing, it fell off around 3/4 of the way. The most important developments of the book were rushed and minimized. The most important scene when (view spoiler)[Raul finds out Elaina's age at her Birthday Party. The guy had been holding back on seducing her and when he finds out her age, and he feels she lied to him deliberately, he politely takes her to his ranch straight to the bedroom? (hide spoiler)] I was so bummed. I also had issues with the actual book cover. To me seeing a cover like that is a tease that the sex and seduction will be hot, erotic, and/or in depth. The actual content was more a borderline YA than adult. Sure the right words were used and the body parts mentioned but I had a running debate with myself about the rating factor as to PG-13, R, or X..... and X didn't win. This is a steamy but not erotica read that had it's moments but didn't wow me.

What I liked about this story, it almost borders a taboo subject with age. Raul is thirty and sees Elaina and assumes she is eighteen. Feeling an attraction for her, he tries to not cross the line although he finds himself being consumed with her and jealous of anyone who approaches her. Although Elaina is twenty one approaching twenty two, she continues to let Raul think she is eighteen. The concept of the forbidden fruit drove Raul crazy and made for an interesting read. The opening scene with Raul and his attitude, sets the pace for the rest of the story. I have to admit, Elain drove me a little crazy as she did act like an eighteen year at times as she is coming from a place of innocence and vulnerability. Nevertheless, the build up to their climax was worth the wait. The story was quick and to the point with other likeable characters. Also the southern feel to it was a plus as I appreciate a different setting from the author. As much as I found myself liking this story, it had simplicity to it and I don't feel it was the author's best, but as always, I do find that I enjoy myself reading her novellas. I read this because it was on the sideline of recommended books. One of the things I had a problem with was the way Raul acted when he met Elaina. He immediately started calling her baby and little girl. He was threatening and possessive and didn't even know her. He was rough with her and grabbed her. He instantly told her that he would have her when she is "all grown up". I don't find a man attractive who is borderline abusive and manhandles me. Also, his command of the english language is poor. The only real problem with this story was that it was too short. I really wish LC would write full length novels. I loved the whole thing. I'm fond of the mistaken age trope and add in an OTT jealous possessive hero and I'm in my happy land. Just a wonderful hero and some cute situations. Wow you can’t get more alpha than Raul. I loved how he tried to rein it in for her though. Raul is one of the most eligible bachelors in his little Texas town. Until he meets Elaina Ruiz and knows she has to belong to him--even if it means waiting for her to grow up. IN MY OWN WORDS Elaina Ruiz has just lost her mother and is looking for herself, having cared for her for a long time. She decides to spend her holiday vacation from college visiting her ant. She meets the very intense Raul Vega and is instantly deeply attracted to the handsome cowboy. The problem is that he is VERY intense and she doesn't know if she is ready for that relationship. Raul, on the other hand, will stop at nothing to get the girl, even if it means waiting for her. He has felt his bachelor days end on the spot at the first sight of the young beauty. He will pursue her and bind her to him by any means necessary. MY REVIEW On the plus side, you will find in this book everything that makes Lynda Chance's stories enchanting: A very possessive hero, an alpha-male sure of himself and his place in life. A young heroine who will give her man a run for his money. A believable storyline you can (almost) relate to. Great dialogue. Intensity. On the down side, I will have loved to see this book being a little longer (it's a short story). It has the downfall of any short story in my opinion; a rushed ending. Not a bad one, mind you, just one that could have benefited a longer ending. The cover does also suggest a more erotic twist. Unfortunately, the action doesn't really support the intensity of the great dialogue and what it builds up to be. I will however write reviews on other books written by Lynda Chance since her work just keeps getting better and better. All in all, I couldn't but the book down. MY CLASSIFICATION Type: Contemporary Romance Keyword: Alpha Male, possessive Hero Intimacy: Borderline Young Adult, the dialogue makes it adult in a big way MY RATING I gave it 4 stars since it's a very well written short story that will leave you searching for more Lynda Chance's work

Raul is a sexy, hot, knows when he wants something and goes straight after it, staking his claim, no matter what he has to do, in order to get it. He's filled with such sexual desire and such possessiveness, that it's really hot! Raul encounters Elaina when his next door neighbors take in their niece, after she loses her mother to breast cancer. Thinking that Elaina is still a teenager, Raul goes through misery trying to fight his attraction towards and for her. Something about Elaina just drives him over the top and as much as he wants her, he keeps with the vow of not touching her, because to him, she's still too young for him. He's only 30, but for him 18 is still too young. Or is it? They go through an emotional tug of war, mixed with sexual innuendos, lust, and a few hot kisses here and there. Elaina's worried about Raul's possessiveness, jealousy and the fact that no matter what he wants what HE wants, and doesn't try to consider what she wants. They make a pact, one night, on her birthday no less, which he has yet to figure out that she has now turned 22, that NO ONE is to touch her until she becomes of age for HIM. In return, Elaina asks him the same, and she's stunned, shocked, and also turned on, by the fact that Raul has agreed to those terms as well. When he finds out hours later, that she is truly not a teenager anymore, and is 22, Raul is furious. Can they work through this lie? Will Elaina now have to give up her body and soul because of a pact she made? Is she ready to do this? Does Raul even care? When he faces her with anger and lust, will she turn him away or finally dive into the sexual pool of desire and lust that she's felt since she laid eyes on him? (P.S...The sex scenes in this book are extremely hot!!)

Description: When alpha male rancher, Raul Vega, meets innocent nursing student, Elaina Ruiz, he works hard to resist her, believing she’s too young for him. Elaina finds Raul too intense and doesn’t disabuse him of the notion, even though she’s old enough for what he has in mind. But how long can they deny their attraction? The Good: Chance’s writing has a lot of energy, which is harder to achieve than one might think. You won’t get bored, and you’ll keep on turning the pages. The Bad: The Hero (Hispanic): It’s a thin line between aggressive would-be lover and judgmental bully with Raul, and if you’re sensitive to that line in alpha males, you might have trouble fully enjoying this story. The Heroine (white and Hispanic): When dealing with alpha males, the characterization of the heroine has to be even more on point, so that it doesn’t feel like she’s being completely overshadowed by a stronger personality. In this case, Elaina needs considerable character work, as her motivation is unclear and often shaky. She doesn’t know what she wants from life or love, which happens all the time in real life, but in book life it’s hard to give a character these traits without her coming across as wishy-washy and childish as opposed to truly conflicted. Craft: Contradiction issues. Ex. Elaina was stunned at his agreement and didn’t even think to question his sincerity. He was sincere. She would bet on it. “Are you serious?” [she asked]. Basically, the character is saying she doesn’t question the hero’s sincerity before turning around and questioning his sincerity. There are a few contradictory turns like that. Moving in with her aunt, she doesn't expect to run into Raul Vega, or be as attracted to him as she is. He is everything her mother warned her about. He's demanding and headstrong and determined to get what he wants, and what he wants is Elaina. When Raul mistakenly thinks her younger than what she is, she leaps at the opportunity to use it as an excuse to keep him at bay. When Raul mistakenly thinks her younger than what she is, she leaps at the opportunity to use it as an excuse to keep him at bay. But both she an Raul are not prepared for the fierce attraction that consumes them more and more the longer they deny what is going on between them. Whew! This was a real page turner. I didn't know what to expect when I started it, but it kept me wanting more, even when it was over. Raul was one heck of a character. He was everything the description promised him to be, and more. I liked his forcefulness and take charge attitude--a real alpha male to be sure--but at times almost felt like his behavior bordered on abuse. There were instances where my alarm bells went off and I wasn't sure if he could really be trusted. I tried to put myself in Elaina's shoes--a very easy and pleasurable thing to do thanks to such vivid writing!--and decide what life would be like with Raul down the line. It was a toss up between being an emotionally battered housewife in the sense that you would always have to talk him down off a jealousy fueled rage, or appreciating his overprotective nature that could often times come off as sweet and endearing and could really make a woman feel treasured. I wouldn't describe him as a safe bet, but, if nothing else, he was hot and everything a virile male in a romance should be. I am putting this author on my "read all" list.

The Premise: Overbearing alpha rancher sees young woman he thinks is a teenager and instantly wants to possess her. Young 21 yr old woman freaks at overbearing alpha and pretends to be teenager to keep him away from her, although she feels inexplicable attraction to him. Lots of testosterone-fueled posturing ensues. The Good It was a novella, so it was a pretty quick read. Honestly, I had trouble connecting to much of the story, but it does trip a bit of a trigger for me - I do love reading about The Premise: Overbearing alpha rancher sees young woman he thinks is a teenager and instantly wants to possess her. I think it's hot when a character gets jealous of his woman.....to a point. Here, Raul does make an effort at the end to not be so crazy possessive. There was sex, which was decent. The Meh Most of what turned me off was the OTT attitude of Raul. Also, I didn't connect with the heroine, mostly because she tried to be strong, but mostly just came off as annoying. The obstacle to their relationship, her supposed age, was a bit weak. The Bottom Line I've tried reading Lynda Chance before, and I had a similar reaction to that book (Marco's Redemption) that I had to this one - it's just not my cup of tea. I need a better story with less caveman antics.

Hmmm...this story was okay. The h(Elaina)is young, naive, recently new to town and living with her aunt and uncle. She is just finishing her first semester and overwhelmed. And condescending, his favorite term to call the heroine, "little girl". The heroine felt nervous to tell the Hero her true age and lets him think she's a teen. She must have felt some trepidation to keep up this lie. But don't worry, the Hero is a master albeit, stilted seducer. He manipulates the heroine into giving into him. It was slightly Diana Palmer-esque except much more erotic. Do I believe the love story? Eh, not really. I think the girl was vulnerable at the time and he used it for his advantage. But it was not a horrible story.

The heroine meets the hero when she moves into town. She was in her first year of college so the hero thought she was only eighteen and still a 'baby'. For a while the hero can't stay away from her but refuses to make love to her because of her age and the fact that she is a virgin. When he discovers that she didn't omit her real age of twenty-two, he is mad but at the same time insanely happy because he can now be with her in the sexual sense. I didn't find myself hating or liking the novel. Some of it I found a bit drastic. The hero is borderline abusive in my opinion, he had too much get up and go and not enough understanding or common sense.

I liked this book. Raul was an alpha male, bossy, possessive, protective, pushy, demanding. He was drooling after what he thought was an eighteen year old girl. Actually she was 21 but kept it a secret cause she knew he'd walk all over her if he knew. She was a virgin but had a reason. She nursed her mother who was dying of cancer. She didn't have a life while taking care of her mom but then her mother passed away. She wanted to get a job and live life how she wanted to.Is she going to be able to live how she wants or be jerked around by Raul? Read the story. It's short and sweet and really gets to the point quick.Oh! And don't forget the Hot Sex in the story. Pretty steamy.

Another sexy hot little read from Lynda Chance. Raul and Elaina are about as hot of a couple as she's ever written. He's over the top alpha sexy in a very controlling dominating manner. They first meet and he thinks she's only 18 or 19. He's 30. He feels like a lech for wanting a teenager. Only trouble is that she's actually 21 soon to be 22. Because of his age and domineering nature, Elaina doesn't tell him her true age; she lets him go on believing what he believes. She's not really a pushover and she does some heavy bargaining before admitting her love for him. Sweet little Epilogue. Hard to beat a Lynda Chance hot Alpha male when he finds the one. Worth an afternoon read.

My favourite author. Her books have a dominant, alpha hero and naive, virginal heroine. This one is no exception. Raul Vega, the hero sees Elaina Ruiz, the heroine and goes after her. The word 'no' does not exist in his vocabulary and nothing is going to stop him for getting her (even the age difference). If you looking for a hot, short read with an alpha male and characters that have some depth to them then this is for you. Personally I just wish Lynda Chance would publish a full length novel.
