I guarantee it will look really nice sitting on your nightstand or bookshelf. But seriously, this book is a MUST-BUY if you like your erotic romance scorching hot with a good dose of suspense. You can't go wrong when you put three incredibly talented authors together and let them run wild. And run wild they did! Arresting Desire by Shayla Black 4 Stars I'm coming late to the Sexy Capers party. This is a series by Shayla Black that I have NOT read. Yes, I know, shocker! And believe me, this is something I will have to remedy shortly. But even, without having read the previous two books I had no problem getting into this story. Jon Bocelli has apparently been working undercover in a mob operation until they were able to crack the case, but the mob boss died in the process and now Jon's brother is in jail for that murder. Jon has to go back now to find some proof that his brother is innocent. And this will put him face to face with Lucia DiStefano, that mob boss's youngest daughter and the object of his lust during his whole undercover work. Not only will he have to ask for her help to save his brother, but he will have to deal with his feelings for her once and for all. And they are hot and dirty! Sexy cop + virgin mob princess = explosive heat! On Fire by Sylvia Day 5 Stars I don't even know where to begin with this story. The title says it all. End of review. I've only read one other Shadow Stalker novella and it was verrrra hot as well but this one had smoke coming out of ears and sweat forming it was so hot. A series of fires in local business are all hitting home for fire inspector Darcy Michaels. When the crimes are too much for the small town cops to handle it, she calls in the cavalry and Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron and his partner are sent in to investigate. And from page one when Jared met Darcy it was straight to the point "I want you, I'm going to have you". I love strong female heroines and that's Darcy to a tee, but she has such a damaged past that it has made it easy for the wrong people to get close to her. Jared is of course the alpha male that everyone dreams of having, in and out of the bedroom. And even though I thought he would be overprotective and too macho to let her do her job and take care of her issues, he was perfect and gave her the space she needed and the opportunity to show that she can handle her own. Only bad part is that I had the killer pegged from the beginning, but the rest of this story was so good that didn't even take a star away! On Fire had me burning up! The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker 4 Stars Mica Greer is trying to catch a serial killer. Her only hope right one is a retired FBI agent with a special psychic gift who just happened to be her partner and lover 15 years ago. Colby rejects his gift for all the heartache it has brought him and how difficult it has made his life. But when Mica shows back up in his life asking for help with catching this killer, he has to help her. Whether its because its the right thing to do or because he never got over her and will do anything to be close to her again. If there is one thing that Ms. Walker can do like very few people can is to write a villain that might just give me nightmares. And oh the shudders I felt while being in the mind of this killer. I have new and disturbing images to associate to an otherwise fun song in my head now. Although this story has less heat than the rest, its still an amazing and suspenseful story that will have you glued to every word. As it happens every time I read a book by Ms. Walker, once you start you are sucked in until you finish! And along the way you will go on an emotional roller coaster along with the characters. So great! *ARC provided by publisher

Series Note: All three of these novellas connect to series the authors' write. I think you can probably read them without having read the other books, though. Summary: "Arresting Desire" by Shayla Black A few years ago, FBI Agent Jon Bocelli met shy Lucia DiStefano while working on a case but kept himself from taking her because of her age and innocence. Now he must face her again to try to get some information to help her brother and solve her father's murder. This time, he won't be able to keep his feelings in check. "On Fire" by Sylvia Day When a series of arsons leave fire investigator Darcy Michaels stumped and feeling like they are somehow connected to her, she calls for help from the Marshals service. Enter Deputy Jared Cameron. The two instantly set each other on fire. But when it becomes clear the arsons are clearly directed at Darcy and connected to the murder of her sister years ago, they'll have to work hard to figure out who is responsible. And all the while, both are realizing that their sexy affair is more than just some hot sex. "The Unwilling" by Shiloh Walker Colby Mathis walked away from his job with a team of FBI psychics, no longer trusting in his ability. But when an old flame tracks him down, asking for help in solving a string of disturbing murders, he'll have to face the life he left behind. And the two will have to finally accept that they'll never stop loving each other. Review: "Arresting Desire" by Shayla Black For the first chunk of this story I kept feeling like I knew these characters and was familiar with the situation. I couldn't figure it out. I looked at the other books I'd read by the author and nothing rang a bell. I finally figured out that this novella connects to two books the author had written under a different name (Shelley Bradley), both of which I'd read. I was glad I'd finally figured that out cuz it was driving me nuts! Anyway...pretty good story, if a bit short. It definitely could have used some more page space for more development. Things move really fast and the book only covers like 2 days time. So it doesn't leave a lot of room for the romance to develop. It did leave things feeling a little rushed. Especially considering there is an underlying D/s theme that really doesn't get the attention it deserved. But overall it was a decent story and I liked it enough. Rating: 3.5 / 5 "On Fire" by Sylvia Day I haven't read any other books in this series (at least not that I can think of)...err, wait, just checked on that, and I have read one other in this series. Lol. I read the novella in Men Out of Uniform and I gave the book overall 4 stars so I'm assuming I enjoyed it ;) But back to the novella...good story and an interesting one. It's the longest of the three novellas by far so it's much more developed than Shayla Black's story (which is like 40 pages shorter). The suspense element was surprisingly nicely done (trying to have a well-done suspense plot in a novella is difficult). It was engaging, pretty well detailed, suspenseful...just interesting to read. It kept me hooked into the story. And the characters and the romance were nicely done as well. I was interested in these two and seeing what would happen with them. It's also the hottest of the three, the most erotic. Which is a good thing ;) The only minor glitch in the novella for me was just that I thought the author was a little too liberal with the adjectives sometimes. Made things a bit...flowery?...sometimes. But a good story overall. Rating: 4 / 5 "The Unvilling" by Shiloh Walker This novella is part of Walker's "FBI Psychics" series which I've been reading and enjoying. I liked this story for the most part but like Black's novella, it's a bit short and it leaves the story somewhat under-developed. It's also the least sexy of the three. The story is more focused on the plot than the heat between these two. That's a bit disappointing but not a huge drawback. The plot is interesting and it definitely had me coming back to the book, but I did wish there'd been more of a focus on the romance and these two characters. I think the romance was a bit dependent on their past instead of what happened to them in the present, in this novella. Still, it was a pretty good story and I liked it, just thought it could have been better. Rating: 3.5 / 5 (bordering on a 4) Overall Rating: 4 / 5 WARNING, this book contains: explicit sex, explicit language...some more explicit than the others...a little bit of D/s/bondage play, assplay/anal sex...nothing too terribly over the top, I'd say.

Lucia is a virgin who has been in love with Jon for two years. Jon, 10 years older than her, felt like he couldn’t act on their attraction 2 years ago because the age difference felt too large, however he doesn’t feel that way anymore when he learns that for her 25th birthday, she’s headed on an erotic vacation to lost her virginity. He sees red and can’t stand the thought of any other man touching her. Surrounded by the mystery of who killed her father, which comes into play as her dead father sends her a gift from the grave, this couple tracks the clues to find the killer and along the way, realize how deep their attraction runs. My issue was this, Lucia is an inexperienced virgin, Jon is a Dom and immediately recognizes Lucia’s submissive tendencies. What rubbed me the wrong way was early on during a car ride to the hotel before they even did more than kiss, Jon lets that Dom out and has her undressed with his hands all over her, with the driver watching. It just didn’t work. I couldn’t believe at all that this is something that Lucia would be comfortable with, regardless how she felt about Jon, being as inexperienced as she was. For being a virgin, she fell into the submissive role really quickly and easily and I just didn’t buy it. Their sex was hot, no doubt about that, but I never bought into their relationship as having deeper meaning and it felt like nothing more than hot sex. 2 Stars (87 pgs) On Fire by Sylvia Day: I really enjoyed the mix of high intensity sex and attraction between Jared and Darcy and the suspense storyline that had the hero and heroine tracking a series of arsons that all have a personal connection to Darcy through her dead twin sister, Dani. I was guessing until the end about who the arsonist was that was targeting Darcy. I got caught up in that storyline and it was a nice balance between the intense sex that Jared and Darcy had. They agreed to a night together and what was supposed to be just one night of crazy passion, turned into more than just lust. Both characters made no secret that they enjoyed sex. They weren’t looking for anything more than a good time and after a night together, each of them had a hard imaging not having the other person in their bed. It’s definitely a story of lust at first site and Jared’s possessive tendencies come out, which Darcy has no trouble with. And it worked for me. There was no big declarations of love, no marriage proposals, these two people knew each other for such a short amount of time that where they end up in their relationship, there isn’t a doubt that they’re committed to each other and trying to make a life together; I’m happy that they didn’t rush beyond any more than that. Very enjoyable read. 4 Stars (137 pgs) The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker: This short story had a thriller feel to it. The sex which was very front and center in the first two stories, was understated here and it fit the characters better. Colby and Mica knew each other 15 years ago, were in love, but Mica was scared of her psychic ability and how that ability meshed with Colby’s so she ran. A serial murder case that Mica is working on puts her back in touch with Colby after all these years and she needs his ability to help solve this case. Colby is able to see all different kinds of mental images, seeing them through the eyes of other people, getting glimpses and feelings about the future. It’s a very interesting ability and one that I would have like to have gotten more in depth information about. I liked the dark angst in this one. Both leads are dealing with this mental connection that has impacted their lives and not in great ways. It’s driven them apart and as long as they can both accept it, especially in Mica’s case, it will bring them back together. I liked this story. I know being a short story, a lot of information gets packed into a short amount of space. The story might have benefitted from a bit more page time, especially regarding their relationship, which is just a blip in this overall story. 3 Stars (104 pgs)

Ok, so the realisation of what erotica actually is, has just hit me. Why I didn't know that it is just plain porn with a bit of a back story thrown in, is a mystery. Can't say I'm a fan. Thanks for the recommendation Kris I only read On Fire by Sylvia Day and for a short story it ticked all the boxes of a lot of things I like in a HOT romantic suspense. The story kept me very interested all the way through. The chemistry between the hero and heroine was really good. There was some dirty talking between the two of them that was smoking and then the sex/love scenes were FLAMING HOT! Sylvia Day has just stepped up as the Queen of HOT scenes for me :-)

I have never read anything by Shayla Black or Sylvia Day. But Sylvia Day’s Bared to You is on my TBR List and is just awaiting funds. Sadly, funds always seem to get smaller when school starts for the little ones. Man, why did no one ever tell me children costs so much. Oh yeah, they did I just wasn’t listening. lol Anyway, so my only knowledge with any of these authors was really what I had heard, which was good things and I had read a few books by Shiloh Walker. Now Ms. Walker I have to say that I really, really tired The Missing and it just wasn’t working. I don’t know it just didn’t seem to click for me, but we aren’t talking about that book are we? However, I read Blade Song and Loved it! Seriously, that book was great. From the cover and what I knew about the authors I couldn’t wait to dive on in and read about some dominating sexy men with hot times between the sheets. Arresting Desire by Shayla Black FBI Agent Jon Bocelli never stopped wanting beautiful professor Lucia DiStefano. She’s interested in taking her first lover, and he intends to be that man. When her past puts her life in danger, Jon risks everything to save her and prove this fling is forever. Started the book of with a bang! The Hot factor was off the scale. Honestly, all I could think about was, ‘why have I not read any of her other books before?’ Loved it! I absolutley loved the whole Mafia theme going on with FBI man taking control. Oh yeah it hit all the right buttons. Lucia wasn’t a push over either which was nice. While reading this book I kept thinking of The Davinci Code. Lucia has been given clues/ciphers to solve her father’s murder. It is intense and the heat those two produce will also set you on fire. This story was a great way to start off. It was also the Hottest! The story line defiantly came up second best. I was all about Jon and Lucia and watching their relationship bloom. Teaser: “Want to know what I did on my last case?” Jon asked Nicki. He was sure that she didn’t, but he was going to tell her anyway. “I ensured that one of my analysts trained properly to pose undercover as a submissive at a BDSM resort. I watched her get naked. I watched her get spanked by one man . . . and get off at the hands of another- at the same time. I saw her publicly flogged and fondled, then I had to send her to a place where orgies and whippings are common. Your sister’s idea of racy is probably reading Lady Chatterley’s Lover aloud at a book discussion group of her fellow academians. Don’t get me wrong; I’d be a lying motherfucker if I said I didn’t want to be the man to take Lucia’s virginity, but she deserves someone who hasn’t lived too long on the edge. Trust me, I’m doing her a favor.” “Oh get over yourself.” Nicki rolled her eyes. “So she’s been sheltered. That makes her corruptible, not breakable. . . .” Rated : 5 Stars On Fire by Sylvia Day When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron investigates a series of arson attacks in a seaside town, the biggest blast of heat comes from sexy fire inspector Darcy Michaels—until their scorching after-hours affair is compromised by a secret from Darcy’s past. The middle was the perfect stop for this story. There was still a lot of Heat coming from our Hero and Heroine but not quite as much as the first story. However, the story line was pulling me in and I was honestly torn between wanting to know what happened overall and what happened with Jared and Darcy. I was trying to guess who it was the whole time, at least the parts that I wasn’t distracted by Jared and Darcy getting all hot and sweaty. Jim and Chris kept giving me the run around and then she throw in another curve ball. Really I didn’t see it coming until it was too late. Great job! My biggest problem with this story was that Jared and Darcy seemed to take turns dominating. This left me a little confused with whether or not Jared was supposed to be the dominate one out of the two or Darcy. Really it’s not much of a complaint it just let me a little unsatisfied. Teaser : He didn’t move a muscle for a moment. Then his lips curled on one side in a wickedly carnal smile. His eyes glittered with fierce, hard lust. “You want a sheet-clawing, back-arching, mind-blowing fuck, and I want to pound my cock into you until I’ve come my last drop.” Darcy sagged into the seat back, her hand lifting to her throat. “Whew.” Rated : 4.5 Stars The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker Mica Greer and her former lover, ex-FBI agent Colby Mathis, once shared an intimate past and a powerful psychic gift. Now, they’ve been reunited by a bizarre series of murders—and an electrifying passion that could put them both in jeopardy. I have to say that this last novella drew me in with the story. I thought that the love/lust between Colby and Mica came second. I mean the story was intense and I was honestly creeped out by the villian. I did love how Colby and Mica had psychic ablilities that they used to solve the case. I have only read a few other series like that. That being said I thought this one playing more upon the murder-mystery aspect of it. Don’t get me wrong they have some Hot Steamy scenes and thank goodness Colby is defiantly the dominate one there so no guess work. However, out of all of the stories, Colby played the nice guy safe card. I think that steamed back from Mica running the first time around and so he didn’t want to scare her off, but there you have it. These two had a back story that helped cement a few things so that the focus was on solving the murders before he could strike again. I have to give it to Shiloh, she can sure write an intense plot and fit it into an hundred pages or so. Teaser : Mica curled her lip at him. He hated that he still found that so fucking appealing, hated that he wanted to reach up and tumble her down into the sand next to him and strip her naked. So what if doing the dirty in the sand got grit in sensitive places? The ocean was right there if they wanted to clean up after. And his house wasn’t too far away. It was a strong enough impulse that he could even see himself doing just that, and somehow, he doubted she’d resist him if he gave it a try. Her breathing kicked up as she stared at him. No. She wouldn’t resist. Not at all. Rated : 4 Stars Overall I thought that this book was full of Hot Sexy Escapades mixed with some intense murder-mysteries.

It was so great to finally read his story. Shiloh Walker's novella was also good. All 3 novellas, were a 5 out of 5 for me.

KIMBER’S THOUGHTS: I’m a huge fan of this series so I couldn’t wait to read Lucia and Jon’s story. We got a little taste of them in Book 2, Strip Search, where Lucia’s sister Nicki is the heroine. I was totally intrigued by Jon’s mysterious character and counted down the days for this release. Lucia’s had more than a crush on Jon for a couple of years but he left her and town when his undercover Mob gig was up. Thing is, he’s got it bad for her too but held himself in check for a number of reasons. He’s several years old than her, a little rough around the edges, working undercover posing as her Mob boss uncle’s hired man, knew she was a virgin and didn’t feel worthy of her, she’s still finishing school and had some growing up to do. Fast forward 2 years to Lucia’s 25th birthday party at her sister’s male strip club, and Jon is back in Vegas needing some answers from Lucia that may help get his brother exonerated of charges that he murdered a judge. One look at each other and they are done for, but Lucia is self-conscious of her body since she’s not stick thin and wonders why he’d want her anyway. Jon goes to the extreme to make his point that she is exactly what he wants by hauling her over his shoulder and carrying her out of the birthday party caveman style kicking and screaming with high-fives and thumbs up from her family and friends. I loved this scene. It was fun, hot, sexy as hell and shows how Ms. Black is an expert at writing Hot Alpha men who curl our toes. This is a satisfying, fast-moving novella with mystery, great characters, emotion, and first-time long-awaited sex that burns up the sheets. Shayla Black owns a sex scene. So. Damn. Hot. Jon is perfect for her first time, gentle and sweet, yet a bit demanding. You can feel how much he’s holding back because it is her first time, which brings me to my only complaint. You get a glimpse of his BDSM tendencies, and I would have loved to have seen more of the DOM side of him, as well as Lucia being his submissive. The story wrapped up nicely, but a longer story with details of Jon’s history and him introducing Lucia into the world of BDSM would have made it a perfect story for me. I’m always greedy when it comes to Shayla Black’s writing, I can never get enough. This was my first time to read anything by Sylvia Day and I was more than impressed with her writing style, character development, thriller moments, and man, the woman can write a sex scene. Makes me wonder just where the hell have I been to miss out on this amazing author? I could not put this one down until I read the last page. It was truly that good! While someone is setting fires in her small town, Darcy hits a dead end on the investigation and decides to bring in the big guns for assistance. Immediately, she and the Deputy Marshall are attracted to each other and they begin a very steamy and erotic no strings attached fling. No biggie for her since she’s not really the commitment type and he’ll be leaving town as soon as they catch their bad guy. So, when they begin to have “feelings” for each other after such a short time, they are both caught off guard. Both characters knew what they wanted and had zero problems going after it. They are a great, no-nonsense couple who complement each other on the job and behind closed doors. I am reluctant to give any of the plot away, but take my word for it when I say, there is a good bit of emotion in the story, and I thought Ms. Day did a great job bringing it all together at the end. Do not let the Novella scare you off. This was over 200 pages that left nothing unturned. On Fire was the complete package for me – A thrilling fast-paced plot with twists and turns, emotional and highly passionate characters, and igniting the sheets intense sex. You will not be disappointed with this one. Stories in the Shadow Stalkers mini-series The Promise of Love Anthology (Razor’s Edge) Men out of Uniform Anthology (Taking the Heat) Guns and Roses Anthology (Blood and Roses) Hot in Handcuffs Anthology (On Fire) THE UNWILLING by Shiloh Walker Mica Greer and her former lover, ex-FBI agent Colby Mathis once shared an intimate past and a powerful psychic gift. Now, they’ve been reunited by a bizarre series of murders—and an electrifying passion that could put them both in jeopardy. KIMBER’S THOUGHTS: This is another first-time author for me and I really enjoyed this short story. Now that I know it is part of a series, I’ll be going back and reading the others. This is a love reunited kind of story with characters that piqued my interest from the start. The story starts off with Colby, an ex-FBI agent, moping around drowning in his sorrows with the memories of a case gone bad due of his actions. Said case resulted in why he’s an EX FBI agent. His choice, but he’s determined NOTHING could drag him back into that line of work again. His plan is to live the rest of his life with a no brainer job at the beach where he thinks he can push aside and hide his psychic gift. Problem is, no amount of alcohol can get rid of the nightmares or the visions no matter how hard he tries. Mica left the FBI and Colby 15 years ago, works for the local police department where they have had three murders in three weeks with not a lot to go on. Like Colby, Mica doesn’t want anyone to know about her psychic gift, especially the people she works with, and she’s tried her best for many years to keep it that way. But, when her Captain puts pressure on her to get the FBI special task force involved, the head guy calls in Colby to help, knowing they had a psychic connection and together they can find this sicko who’s on a killing spree. Because of their history, neither is excited about working together again but because they don’t want another dead body on their hands, they agree to give it a go. It has nothing to do with the fact they’ve never found anyone who accepts, understands or just fits like they do….yeah, right. What I loved about this story is the depth of emotion from both characters. I could feel the anguish their unstable gifts were causing, not to mention the penned up lust they still felt for each other. They were a great couple who were perfect for each other in and out of the bedroom. This story was low on the steam but super sexy. Something else I loved about this story was the eerie factor. I was so creeped out by the bad guy, I actually got shivers reading it. Why am I praising the fact the author could creep me out? Because, that means she did her job as a suspense writer and it adds another level to the story. I was a little upset when I finished because I wanted more. Ms. Walker did an excellent job with the plot, characters, and writing to wrap it up and nothing was left out. That’s what happens when a good story comes to an end. Now, I’m looking forward to reading all the books in the series, and I’ve added Shiloh Walker as a must read author. Arresting Desire by Shayla Black Rating-5 Stars Jon has been wanting Lucia ever since he met her two years ago, but he was working undercover at the time and she was too young and inexperienced. So Jon left without ever touching her. Now Jon is back and Lucia doesn't look so young anymore and Jon is bound to prove to Lucia that he does desire and want her. Lucia always wanted her first time to be with Jon, but when she all but threw herself at him and he denied her she got the message. Now she's about to embark on a trip with her best friend and is determined to lose her v-card no mater what. What she doesn't expect is to see Jon again and looking oh so yummy. When she is sent a birthday gift from her father who has been dead for the past two years, Jon believes that this may be just the information he needs to help exonerate his brother. Together they embark on a mission to solve the mystery while at the same time explore the feelings and passion they ignite in one another. This was story was so good. I now understand what the big deal is about Shayla Black. She completely rocked my world and in such a a good way. I could not stop reading. I was hooked from the first page. She had just the right amount of suspense mixed in with the romance. I like that we were shown a bit of the characters past. I was able to get a good feel for them both. I loved the chemistry between Lucia and Jon. The chemistry between the two was hot and their sex scenes were electric. I will definitely be checking out more from Shayla. On Fire by Sylvia Day Rating-5 Stars Wow oh wow, but this was one HOT story. There were quite a few parts that had me fanning myself because the scenes between Jared and Darcy were so scorching hot. The passion between them is intense and immediate. It didn't feel phony or rushed at all. Seriously, these two were hot together and I loved it. There have been a series of arson attacks in Lion's Bay lately and Darcy, one of the towns fire inspectors knows they need to get help with solving the case. So they decide to call in the US Marshall's in for help with the investigation. Deputy Marshall Jared Cameron has been sent to Lion's Bay to help investigate a series of arson attacks that have been occurring. He never expected to come across bombshell Darcy Michaels in his investigation. One look at Darcy and his blood is pumping and he know that he needs to make his move. She has a fire about her that can't be tamed and Jared just wants some of it. What was supposed to be a one night stand is quickly turning into more, and neither Jared nor Darcy quite know what to make of it. Both feel an insane amount of passion and desire, but on top of that both are quickly realizing that their feelings of lust are becoming so much more. Will either be able to walk away when the investigation is through? The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker Rating-5 Stars This was the first time I have read anything by this author and I have definitely been missing out. OMG, but this story was so good. There was just so much pain and emotion flowing between Mica and Colby. And let me just say I will never be able to listen to Hero by Enrique Iglesias again and not think of this story. I loved the connection between Mica and Cobly. It just jumped off of the page and slaps you in the face. They have a complicated past both with and without the other. Once they were partners in the FBI and shared a special psychic connection. Not only were they working partners, but they were partners in the bedroom and things were pretty hot and heavy. Things were going great until all of a sudden Mica bowed out without an explanation. She never really excepted or understood her psychic gift and it along with her relationship with Colby freaked her out so she ran and has been running for the last fifteen years. Now Mica, a lieutenant in the police force is working on a case that will bring her face to face with the past she longs to forget. Colby has spent the last fifteen years thinking about Mica. He was in love with her and has never felt the connection that they shared with anyone else. He assumed when she left that she would eventually come back, maybe not to the FBI, but at least to him and what they shared together. But when she stayed away he got the message loud and clear. Now Mica is back and she wants Colby's help solving a rash of gruesome murders. Colby doesn't want to help, he's been out of the FBI for two years after a mission went bad but can't say know to Mica. He knows that without his help something terrible could happen so he reluctantly agrees. Both soon find that even though it's been fifteen years, the passion still ignites fires and the connection is still strong as ever. Colby is bound and determined to make Mica realize that her curse is indeed a gift and that she won't be able to just walk away for both it and Colby this time. Overall This book as a whole was just so freaking good! I normally don't read these authors but you better believe I will definitely be on a lookout for their books from now on. Each novella was so good that I found myself unable to stop reading once I started. What I liked most about Hot In Handcuffs is that each story felt complete. Even though they were novellas, they didn't feel rushed or as if info was missing. To be honest, I feel so good about each story that I don't even want more. Each had a beginning, middle and end and I feel like I can walk away completely satisfied which normally isn't the case for me when I read novellas. Each story felt like a full length novel and I found myself completely engrossed with each. My only complaint(it's a small one) is the last story felt as if it didn't mesh as well with the first two stories. The first two stories were very erotic and the last story was not as erotic and definitely more dark. But I still loved it regardless. This book definitely made me fans of each author.

All of these stories are in series that the authors tend to write in these anthologies. For me the strongest story of these three was from Sylvia Day. I liked how the characters in it were instantly attracted to each other, made no bones about it, and very quickly did something about. Shayla Black's story was more sweet, not really what I expected from this kind of a book. One part that didn't work for me was how Lucia was a virgin, yet instantly was spouting D/s as soon as they had sex. Shiloh Walker's story was sort of blah for me. I am not a big fan of couples that have been together, break up, then end up together again, and that was the case with this one. Due to the details of the break up I found myself not really liking Mica, thought Colby could have done better.

Arresting Desire by Shayla Black- 4 stars I liked the story. It was interesting, but predictable. The romance between Jon and Lucia was steamy. I enjoyed this read. On Fire by Sylvia Day- 5 stars Wow, I guess I've forgotten how good a writer Sylvia Day is, because the chemistry between Darcy and Jared was so fricking hot. I like this author's style when writing sex scenes, those seem so real and colorful. And I'd say it had an unpredictable ending, which was interesting. I only really got through the first story. I got half way through the second story and would find myself zoning out and thinking random thoughts about everything. I usually don't do that except when I am reading text books for class assignments. Then to make things worst, when I am not reading it then I am not looking forward/dreading reading it again. I don't want to make myself finish this book. The first story was good. The second started off interesting but started to bore me. I only really got through the first story. Two of the stories were pretty good, but one of them not so much. I am not big on romance suspense books, so someone that is might give this book a 4 star. I must say that Sylvia Day wowed me with her story! HOT!!! lol. She never disappoints me.

2.5 stars. Note: Rating is for Shiloh Walker's Unwilling novella only. Part of her FBI Psychics series. Jon had more than noticed Lucia DiStefano back then, but she was very young and innocent and he just couldn’t bring himself to act on his feelings. Now back in town, investigating Lucia’s father’s death on his own in the hopes of finding anything that might clear his brother, he comes face to face with Lucia and realizes that he still has feelings for her and this time he won’t be able to let her go. I liked this story, for the most part. I was intrigued by the characters and the story’s plot. It was well thought out and carries through the story well and I really liked how the author used Lucia’s childhood relationship with her dad and the “game” that they’d often played to leave clues for her that led to the capture of the person truly responsible for her father’s death. I did not, however, connect too well with Lucia. Clearly a child prodigy, she’d flown through school and at only 25 was already a professor. I found it a bit unbelievable that she was still a virgin which in turn made it difficult for me to buy that she so easily falls into the submissive role that Jon requires of her. Just didn’t sit well with me. Rating: C+ On Fire by Sylvia Day Fire inspector Darcy Michaels thinks it’s time to bring in the big guns when a series of fires take out some local businesses in her small town. While no one is hurt, there is something about the fires that bothers her so she goes against her colleagues and calls in a specialist. When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron arrives at the station and meets Darcy for the first time sparks fly, literally. The heat between these two is unmistakable. They give into their attraction pretty quickly, while at the same time following the trail of clues that will put them both into serious danger before they are able to conclude their investigation. Whew! On Fire is a very appropriate name for this story. I have not read Sylvia Day before, but I plan on changing that immediately. I was pulled in immediately to this story and I cannot lie, Ms. Day writes sexy hotness very well. Jared is sex-on-a-stick and Darcy wastes no time licking that bad boy up and down! In addition to the super hotness, though, there is a well thought out plot that had me guessing till almost the end. The author does give out a few clues throughout the story and if you try, you’ll figure out who the bad guy is. Definitely my favorite of the three stories in this anthology! Rating: A The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker Mica Greer seems to be one step behind with the recent murder case she’s been assigned to. There is something there; she just can’t put her finger on it. She’s butting heads with her partner which makes it even worse. When her captain tells her it’s time to bring in the FBI, she calls an old contact who informs her that he doesn’t have anyone he can spare at the moment, but he knows someone who might be able to help. Enter ex-FBI agent Colby Mathis who happens to be Mica’s X as well. They’d worked together in the past, using their psychic gifts to work cases; each able to anchor the other and avoid the debilitating down time that occurs after using their gifts. But Mica couldn’t handle her gift or her growing relationship with Colby, so she leaves him. Now 15 years later, they are working a case again and their connection is still there. When the clues they uncover point them toward one of their own and Mica looks to be a target as well, they’ll realize what they’ve given up; but maybe it won’t be too late for them. This story was just okay for me and was my least favorite of the three. I didn’t quite understand why Mica and Colby’s relationship hadn’t worked previously and why Mica had left him in the first place. So when they are reunited and those feelings are still there and as strong as ever something didn’t sit right with it. Additionally, the fact that Mica’s captain has her keeping Colby’s involvement on the “down low” also didn’t make sense to me as Mica was forced to keep anything that she and Colby uncovered secret from her partner. The story didn’t pull me in as strongly as the other two and the smexy factor was definitely missing in this one. Rating: C- I’m on the fence about anthologies. I usually don’t read them unless there are stories included by authors who have a running series I follow-like Nalini Singh, Lora Leigh or Sherrilyn Kenyon. Otherwise, I’m almost always a little disappointed; especially if the story is strong and then over too soon. I’d read two of the three authors featured in this anthology, Sylvia Day being new to me. I’m not sure if the other two stories are in any way related to any on-going series by Shayla Black or Shiloh Walker so I cannot speak to that. I will say, though, that an anthology is a terrific way to check out a new to you author. In this, I have found Sylvia Day and I look forward to checking out her work. Overall Rating: B-

I love reading anthologies. I’m a big fan of finding new-to-me authors who I may have never read before, and while I’ve enjoyed stories by Black, Day and Walker before, I’m also a sucker for a hot guy with handcuffs. So when this book showed up on my doorstep, I snatched it up and tucked it away for a rainy day. Arresting Desire Jon was an undercover FBI agent for a mob family, and now that he is done with the case, he will do anything and everything to prove his brother’s innocence in a judge killing case. The only thing he wasn’t prepared for was having to take Lucia with him on the case. He’s long desired Lucia, but was always afraid to act on those desires. With his undercover work being done and over, he is now ready for more. I have to say, I think this was my least favorite of all the stories. While I like Black’s writing and the story was engaging, there was also a little something missing with the romance. While I believed in the lust and desire between Jon and Lucia, the BDSM aspects of the relationship were pretty tame, and then at the end Jon wanted to collar Lucia, which seemed to be a little extreme for the relationship to date. While I could see them as a couple who might experiment more with the harder BDSM aspects down the line in their relationship, I had a hard time buying the collaring with the lack of intensity in the relationship shown on the book pages. I did really like the mystery-case aspect of this short story though. I liked watching Lucia’s mind work through the clues her father left her, and get to see her and Jon find out the truth about so many different loose threads in their lives. I give Arresting Desire a C+ On Fire This was my absolute favorite story in the anthology, Day is such a talented writer. Jared is called into a small town to look into a series of arsons that seem to be taking on the characteristic of a serial arsonist case. When Jared meets Darcy, local fire inspector, he has two fire problems to deal with: the one in town, and the one in his pants. The two immediately hit it off and the sexual attraction rages strong. They easily fall into a relationship, all why trying to figure out who is starting the town fires, and why they all seem to link back to Darcy. I wanted to cry when this book was over… not because it was bad, or felt as if I wasted my time. No, I wanted to cry a) because it was over and b) because it wasn’t a full length novel that I could spend hours getting lost in. I loved the relationship between Darcy and Jared. While they started purely sexual, it was obvious that the emotions and feelings came quickly for these two, and I adored that aspect of their relationship as well. They were so wonderful and great together, and I just didn’t want their story to end. The mystery surrounding the fire and all that drama was also so incredibly well done. Day constantly kept me guessing, and I was never quite too sure who was behind it all. I was floored by the end of the book, and never would have guessed who was behind it all. An exceptional story with a romance that had me wishing – desperately – for more. I give On Fire an A The Unwilling I really enjoy the FBI Psychics series by Walker, and was pleasantly surprised to find this novella in the anthology. I’m not sure what I was expecting but it was a treat to read about Colby and Mica. Mica is working as a cop and on the case of a murderer she can’t nail down. When her captain tells her to bring in Psychic help, she finds herself turning to Colby, her once love and partner at the FBI. Colby has missed Mica, and although he fears using his psychic powers, will do anything he can to help her. But when the clues point towards a cop, will Mica trust in Colby’s power. I really liked the main storyline with the murderer and the ongoing case that Walker created for this story. I think she does an incredible job writing believable and thrilling and somewhat creepy romantic suspense stories that pull the reader in. This was no different. I especially enjoyed watching Colby and Mica come to grips with their psychic powers while working together to solve the case. The romance was a bit frustrating for me, only because I could see how perfect these two were together, and they kept fighting it at every turn. I wanted them to have an easier time to their HEA, and while I got their hesitancies, I also wanted things to go smoothly for them. But, in the end, I was glad things worked out the way they did, and that these two were able to come to common ground, admit their feelings, and move on. I give The Unwilling a B All in all this was a wonderful anthology, and definitely worth the purchase. The sexy times are hot from start to finish, the mystery aspect of each story was incredibly well done. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy the steamy bits, and the smutty fans will enjoy the mystery woven in. An all around wonderful anthology. I give Hot in Handcuffs a B+

Since they aren't long nor overly complicated, I can just jump in and not worry about whether I've read previous books in the series. Usually novellas stand on their own even if they are part of the series and this collection was no exception. I recently read Shayla Black's Their Virgin Captive and I really enjoyed it. Sure it wasn't the best book out there but it had its moments. When I saw her name on the book I just grabbed it even though I have all sorts of backlog in e-galleys and other library books. I was happy I did. "Arresting Desire" followed Jon and Lucia whose story began in a previous book. Jon was sent to work undercover in a mafia-run nightclub. Lucia's father was the head of the mafia and while Jon was there he found himself attracted to the young virgin. Time passed and now when Jon is searching for a way to get his brothers out of prison in relation to the death of Lucia's father. Of course Lucia has decided to do away with her virginity by going on some sort of cruise with lots of sex. When Jon discovers Lucia's intentions he makes it clear he is completely willing to do away with her little problem. Of course it is not just a sexual encounter but rather the beginning of a dominant/submissive relationship. I absolutely loved the dominant/submissive relationship in this book because it wasn't super-intense. Yes he expected her to submit to him in the bedroom but he respected her independent nature outside of it. That is a pet peeve of mine in dominant/submissive books when the woman is expected to not make any decisions. I could be absolutely wrong in this but I've come to the understanding many submissive women are very independent and confident in their lives. Usually their work life is very separate from their home life in the sense of decision-making. I truly like stories where the woman is allowed to exist with independence while enjoying the type of relationship she enjoys at home. I really loved this story and immediately started bookmarking other series for later purchasing. If you are looking for a spicy, hot story with a little suspense in it then check this one out. 4 Stars "On Fire" by Sylvia Day was my least favorite of the three. Usually I really enjoy reading Sylvia Day but this one seemed a bit lackluster. I loved the premise of the arson investigator and the hot deputy marshal but the story itself fell a bit flat. I sort of expected a lot of spicy, fiery sex scenes and unfortunately that didn't happen. Darcy and Jared met after arsons were occurring in Darcy's hometown. Jared and Darcy dealt with instant attraction and did begin their relationship pretty instantly. I got bogged down with all the suspense and twists with dead twins and crazy exes. I got lost in reading sex scene after sex scene followed by loads of unnecessary suspense. I love Ms. Day's work immensely but unfortunately this is low in my ratings. 2 Stars "The Unwilling" by Shiloh Walker was my first experience reading Walker's books. I really enjoyed it and that really surprised me. The story followed Colby and Mica after a time apart. Both were psychics with Colby being more advanced and comfortable with his power. They had an affair back when they worked for a law enforcement agency but it ended horribly when Mica couldn't accept her ability. The two come together to deal with a serial killer who has been murdering seemingly random people. Quickly the chemistry between Mica and Colby flares to life while they begin chasing a killer that is much closer to them than either expect. I enjoyed the relationship and the suspense in the story. It was a bit creepy and I tend to shy away from suspense stories with graphic murders but this one seemed worth it for the romance. The relationship moved forward in a way I found realistic when it came to them dealing with their past issues. There was baggage and I felt like it was explored. I'm not sure how soon I'll pick up another one of her books with the suspense/creepy vibe but I am on the wait-list for her new contemporary. 3 Stars Overall: 3.5 Stars Published by Berkley Trade July 3, 2012 352 Pages Provided by--the Library

Excerpt: “Arresting Desire“, “On Fire“, “The Unwilling“ The Review: This anthology is all about law enforcement and the “toys” they use. I must say that the author lineup is impressive. Each contributor is well known for their imagery in and out of the bedroom scenes. Though, in all fairness, I must warn you that it’s not all about the lovin; there is also great storylines to go with them! So sit back and relax and imagine all the possibilities of handcuff accessorizing. “Arresting Desire“ by Shayla Black There is a whole lot going on in this novella, and I’m not just talking about the sex scenes! Jon Bocelli is an undercover FBI agent with an agenda. He is looking for evidence to clear his brother’s name and the only way he can think to do it is by going back to the family he helped investigate years ago. Of course now that he is back, his priorities include someone other than his brother; the beautiful and intelligent Dr. Lucia DiStefano. Lucia is about to turn 25 and is still a virgin. The only man she has ever desired has waltzed back into her life and looking for her help. She may be willing to if he could see his way to “help” her out in return. While following the clues left by her dead father, Lucia and Jon get some time to explore each other physically and emotionally. Rating: 3/5 “On Fire“ by Sylvia Day (Shadow Walkers miniseries – Book 4) Things are heating up in small town Lion’s Bay when several local businesses seem to be victims of an arsonist. Darcy Michaels is a local fire inspector that calls in extra support to help solve the crimes being committed. What she didn’t count on is the dark and sexy US Marshal, Jared Cameron, to light her libido aflame. When Jared and Darcy first spot each other, the sparks flying between them should have set everything around them on fire. When they do decide to give into temptation, their desire becomes incendiary. But there is more to these fires than meets the eye; can Jared and Darcy find the culprit before he strikes again? This novella has some very “hot” scenes. I am a little surprised (and slightly disappointed) that their dirty talk and rough bed play didn’t set the pages on fire. On Fire is definitely my favorite story in this anthology. Rating: 5/5 “The Unwilling“ by Shiloh Walker Colby Mathis is a man in hiding; hiding from his past and hiding from his gift. He once used his psychic gifts to find and bring to justice the bad guys, but no longer. Holed away on a beach, he tries not to think about the dreams and visions that bombard him; including his hot and steamy dreams of his ex-lover and partner, Mica Greer. Lieutenant Mica has a six sense for solving crimes, but this serial killer has her baffled. Teaming up with Colby may be the only way she can prevent another murder. Can she safeguard her heart while she links up psychically with the man she has never gotten out of her system? Most of the time Colby and Mica are “on the job”, though they do have a brief and intense interlude of sexual release. Can they reconcile their past to make way for their future? The bad guy here is freakin’ crazy and the story reflects the tension and darkness that a sociopath is capable of. I enjoyed the sense of danger and edginess that this story draws out from the pages; all the things that I come to expect from a gifted writer like Shiloh Walker. Rating: 4/5 FTC Advisory: Penguin / Berkley graciously provided me with a copy of Hot in Handcuffs. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review. The only things I received for payment are hugs and kisses from my little boys.

After spotting Lucia across the club, he decides that since she’s waited this long to save herself, he would be the one to finally deflower her. Aggressively. After much “protesting.” There was a mystery surrounding her father and somehow it all tied back to Jon’s case when he was undercover but to be honest, it wasn’t all that interesting. Definitely hot, but pretty underwhelming otherwise. Grade: C On Fire Sylvia Day Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron blows into Fire Inspector Darcy Michaels’ small town in order to aid an investigation of a series of arson attacks destroying their community. The chemistry between these two is explosive & immediate. It starts as just an itch to scratch, but quickly (and I do mean quickly) moves to much more. Even though I’m not usually a fan of the “we’re meant to be” after 24 hours in bed, for some reason it totally worked with these two. You could just feel it, you were swept up in the passion and knew that there was no one else who could answer the others needs like they could for each other. “Good.” The rush of relief he felt almost made him dizzy. “So we make it work.” “It’s going to be work. A lot of it. We’re too volatile. Too…greedy.” “Like a thirst you can’t quite quench,” he agreed softly. “The flip side being that every time you take a drink, it’s the best fucking thing you’ve ever tasted. If that’s not worth working for, what is?” Right?! (*sigh*) The on-the-job chemistry worked really well, too, as Jared and Darcy worked together to figure out who was behind the fire and another mystery that pops up. I had an inkling who the culprit was but she definitely surprised me! I definitely enjoyed this short story and look forward to reading more by Ms. Day! Grade: B+ The Unwilling Shiloh Walker Mica Greer is a cop trying to solve a strange series of brutal murders of women when her ex-FBI ex-boyfriend, Colby Mathis, gets called in to consult on the case. He is “psychic” and probably their last chance at finding the bastard before he hits again. As they work together to find whom they’re coming to believe is a fellow cop, the passion they once shared is reignited in their search for the truth. The psychic twist to this one didn’t really float my boat. I love paranormal stories but this one didn’t seem to add to the story much. Ms. Walker is an incredibly talented writer, but this story was too graphic and creepy for me to find it the least bit sexy. If you like to get in the killer’s head, be steeped in the mystery, and get creeped out, then this story is for you. It most assuredly wasn’t for me. Grade: C (This is based on the fact that it wasn’t my cup of tea, because it really was well written and constructed.) This review & others also found on Red Hot Books

Arresting Desire - Shayla Black Two years ago FBI Agent Jon Bocelli was working undercover within the DiStefano mob family. He had been very attracted to the youngest daughter but in the end thought she was to young and innocent and walked away. Now he is back because his brother is in jail for killing a judge and he needs Lucia DiStefano to get evidence he didnt do it. He also decides to finally give in and take Lucia and I have to say when he went all caveman it was damn sexy... On Fire - Sylvia Day There has been 3 cases of arson in the small seaside town of Lion's Bay and fire inspector Darcy Michaels thinks they need to bring the Feds in. Darcy came back to Lion's Bay when her twin sister was brutally murdered. All three of these fires were to businesses that she and her sister had frequented as children. She know there is a connection there but cant quite figure it out. When Deputy Marshal Jared Cameron arrives in town to investigates the series of arson attacks the instant attraction between her and Jared is so freggin hot. These two burn it up and down and then back up again - WHEW they were smoking together. During the investigation alot of secrets come out about Darcy's sister that both shock and hurt her. This was the best of the three in my opinion. The Unwilling - Shiloh Walker Colby Mathis is a powerful psychic. He was once with the FBI and fell hard for another psychic he went through training with but she was freaked out about her gift and left him 15 years ago. After a bad judgement call that almost got another fellow agent and a child killed Colby walked away from the FBI. He now works for his father in a bookstore and sits on the beach and drinks. The woman that walked away 15 years ago is now a police lieutenant. Mica Greer has just found her third mutilated body. The gift that she doesn't want is telling her this wont be the last. Mica's captain decides they need help and calls the FBI. Colby and Mica's old boss doesn't have anyone to spare at the moment but recommends they seek out Colby to help them much to Mica's dismay. Neither Colby nor Mica really want to work together - Colby because he is still in love with Mica and Mica because Colby makes her face her gift but when Colby realizes that Mica is the next victim he will do anything to save the woman he loves.

I've been mostly disappointed in the latest books I've read, so I went for a 3-Smutty-Novellas-in-one-book thing, hoping that if the plots were, necessarily, simpler, because the stories were shorter, I might have more luck. Here's how it went... Arresting Desire, by Shayla Black - Sexually dominant FBI Agent Jon and super-book-smart and virginal mob daughter Lucia have some sort of past from a book I haven't read. I mostly liked this one, though the end was super cheesy and unrealistic. In a two-day whirlwind, Lucia loses her virginity to Jon (who she's always liked/loved but never been with before, I assume as minor characters from some earlier book) and avenges her mob father's death by solving a cypher-type puzzle he left for her. Then in the last few pages, Jon symbolically collars her AND asks her to marry him, and she says yes to both. The sex they had wasn't particularly BDSMish, it being her first time and all, and though they're pretty sure she leans that way, that seems awfully quick for both the collaring and proposal to happen, and the ending seemed rushed. Other than that, it was a fun, sexy, quick read as far as these things go, and I might check out the earlier books in the same universe. Update while reading story #2: On Fire, by Sylvia Day -Not bad, though I did make a stab at guessing the baddie and the motive early on, and I was right; but the arson story was generally good. Lots of smutty smut, though if anal sex isn't your thing, you might want to skip this one. The Unwilling, by Shayla Black - Not unlike the Sylvia Day story, only less smutty and with added psychic powers. Audiobook Only: I'm not in love with the narration by Chandra Skyye. Mostly because she has that affectation of dropping her 't' in the middle of a word like the people on "Jersey Shore." (I think it's called glottalization or a glottal stop?) It wasn't just when doing Jon's Jersey accent. It was even during bits when characters weren't speaking, though possibly it was less prominent in those. Anyway, it was distracting to me. Now that I'm done: Yeah, the glottal stop is a super-annoying thing throughout, and in addition, a lot of words are mispronounced: irrevocable, vehemence, inexorably, wanton, etc.

It just happens to be he has a huge hard-on for her and always has. As they work together to uncover the truth of her dads murder, and find the true culprit of crimes his brother is incarcerated for, Jon decides to act on his desires. On Fire by Sylvia Day - 4 stars I have read other books by Sylvia Day and do enjoy her writing style, however this story was one huge fuck-fest... excuse my language. I have no complaints, but there was some story thrown in there. A fire marshall dealing with a string of arsens enlists the help of the Deputy Marshall to come help solve the problem, which turns out to be much deeper that just someone having fun setting off fires in town. The very moment they meet, they are both hot for each other. Deputy Marshall, Jared Cameron wants Fire Inspector, Darcy Michaels in his bed immediately.. and vice versa. It's hard to work in close proximity with someone you are so deeply in lust with to solve the problems of the town. The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker - 5 stars This story did not compare at all to the other 2 shorts in the book. The Unwilling was more a contemporary romance, rather than the erotica of the previous 2. Mica Greer is a psychic for the police force, but she has kept her secret on the down low for a long time... there are a serious of murders in town .. and all the victims look just like her. She is having a hard time figuring out this case, even with her gift.. so she asks the FBI for an agent to help with the case. They send her Colby, who is actually on leave from the agency ... he is a very strong psychic, but also her ex-boyfriend, together they are able to solve the murders, save lives, and rekindle an old love affair.

4 3/4 stars! Shiloh Walker's "The Unwilling" is my favorite of this anthology. It reminds me of why I like this author's writing so much...the stark emotion, tortured heroes and reluctant yet unstinting bravery that they display. I love the psychic elements and the deep devotion that the characters have to each other despite all that has passed between them. This tale of a cop who reaches out to her former partner and his efforts to help her despite having been hiding from his own psychic abilities just somehow struck a chord with me, as many of Ms Walker's books tend to. The intense passion both in the bedroom and out was just a nice (yes, very nice) bonus. I was sorry that it was just a novella but it was a great read and I would love to see more stories about these characters. Sylvia Day's "On Fire" centers around a heroine in the uncommon profession of fire investigator. I am not familiar with the Shadow Stalkers tales but this one was a wonderful blend of mystery and spice as two investigators race to discover the person who seems to be torching an odd series of targets. The tension ratchets as the two of them create a considerable conflagration of their own even as they discover that the arsonist has a very personal goal in mind. Shayla Black's "Arresting Desire" follows FBI agent Jon Bocelli as he finally returns and educates Lucia DiStefano on the details that she isn't able to learn in books, specifically how to deal with a dominant man who is ready to train the twenty-five year old virgin that he has been desiring ever since he met her a couple of years ago. Issues from both of their pasts must be resolved if they are going to have a future together but somehow they will find a way to work together. This story was sensual and exciting as is typical for this talented author but somehow didn't quite flow as nicely for me as I would have liked...perhaps because it was so short and I didn't feel that events were quite realistic in the way that they transpired. A fun and sizzling read nonetheless.

It was an ok book. As this is an anthology and the three stories here are so very different in many aspects, I rated them separately. “Arresting Desire”, by Shayla Black, 1 star. Not exactly my kind of characters and the mystery was poorly developed. Actually the whole story was poorly developed. The guy simply walks away on her with no reasonable explanation and then comes back two years later, claiming he was afraid he would have hurt her and blah blah and she buys that. Oh, please. And she's a 25-year-old virgin. Seriously, these characters sucked, and the mystery the author tried to add as a spice to the story was even more ridiculous. “On Fire”, by Sylvia Day, a straight five! God, this one was so good it deserved a whole book of its own (it is actually almost 400 pages long, so I guess it could be already considered a book). She wrote some of the best sex scenes I’ve ever read, and the thriller in the story was not only interesting but also well developed and believable. Not to mention that I cared about this characters. Her writing won me over and I'll be reading more of her stuff in the future. “The Unwilling”, by Shilloh Walker, 1 star. The worst piece of writing I’ve seen in a very long time. I honestly don’t know how she managed to be published. Oh, and she used the word "damn" over 75 times in a short story, and it bothered me like hell. Don't get me wrong, I swear a lot myself, but I try to use different words, at least in the same sentence, or it gets boring instead of fierce, which I believe was what you intended to sound with your damnable "damns".

Three erotic suspenseful novellas by some really great authors. Darcy Michaels is our female lead as part-time fire inspector for the city of Lions Bay near Seattle who has her hands full with several arson fires in the town. She decides to call in for outside help. Deputy U.S. Marshall Jared Cameron is assigned along with Deputy Trish Morales. Darcy and Jared know from first looks that it is going to happen. Jared describes Darcy as 'She was hot monkey sex in a paper bag.' The sex is exactly that and you will need to resupply those batteries for this novella. The Unwilling by Shiloh Walker The site is Pasadena, Texas where there have been 3 gruesome murders. Lt. Mica Greer has been investigating and she is sure more murders will continue unless there is a break in the case. Her commander suggests she contact her former colleagues in the FBI to assist with the case. The head at the FBI suggests she contact Colby Mathis formerly of the FBI and her former lover. This is an incredible novella. I love murder, mystery, thriller, suspense type novels so this totally made my day. Over the top suspense/thriller. Overall I would give this book a 9.5 star rating.
