We all remember the images from Hurricane Katrina and, more recently, Superstorm Sandy--lots of people unprepared for the extreme shock of losing modern conveniences (electricity, the Internet, and communications) as well as the basics for survival (food, water, shelter, heat). The disturbing trend of society in the United States has been to rely on the government to provide these things in the event of a natural (or man-made) disaster. Far too many have taken the attitude that warnings don't apply to them and that a quick trip to the store for a gallon of milk, a few loaves of bread, and some eggs will be sufficient. M.D. Creekmore's "31 Days to Survival: A Complete Plan For Emergency Preparedness" walks the reader through the steps to become prepared to face the challenges of a major emergency event. Each "day" addresses how to be ready to meet those challenges and builds on what it covered previously. This book focuses more on skills and knowledge than on the many gadgets and gizmos that have become the latest retailing rage. The writing is clear and concise--an easy and engaging read as it challenges you to objectively evaluate where you are now and helps you develop a plan to become as prepared as you would like to be. Recommended to everyone and highly recommended to anyone who has recently decided that they want to be more prepared to care for themselves and their family during and after a disaster.
