Mathew Smith is from Sheffield in England, just 20 miles from me. I met him in 2003 in Dallas, Texas, at the 40th anniversary of JFK's assassination. The conference was held by JFK Lancer, as it is every year in November in Dallas. I had read Smith's 'The Second Plot' and considered his investigations of Lee Oswald to be very interesting. LHO was a CIA sleeper, he was sheep-dipped by his handlers into a mission to Cuba, or so Oswald thought. He was on his way to pick up a light aircraft at Redbird Airfield in Dallas, when Tippett was murdered and he bacame the patsy for JFK. This book was written later, published in 2005. Once again, Smith is very compelling. The murder of Marylyn Monroe was actioned to wreck the political careers of both JFK & RFK. Unfortunately, this was passed as suicide which let the Kennedy's off the hook. Hence the coup d'tat in Dallas. The same forces went to work when RFK was looking favourite for the White House in '68. Another lone nut, another frame up. Finally, the set up at Chappaquiddick was strike 3, to complete the destruction of the dynasty.

This is another book dealing with a conspiracy to assassinate JFK. Where this book differs from most is that it widens the conspiracy theory to include a vendetta against all the Kennedy family. In addition it includes the death of Marilyn Monroe also. The conspiracy has its roots in the Bay of Pigs invasion. The refusal of JFK to provide air support to the invasion embittered many in the CIA who were captured in the failure. The conspiracy has its roots in the Bay of Pigs invasion. The refusal of JFK to provide air support to the invasion embittered many in the CIA who were captured in the failure. An alliance was formed with the Mafia, the FBI, and the business establishment to get the Kennedys out of politics. The death of Monroe was actually a murder done to implicate JFK and RFK as they both were believed to have been romantically involved with her. The conspirators felt that being linked to her death would force them out of office in disgrace. When this plan didn't work, they went to plan B which was to assassinate them both. In Ted Kennedy's case, the author contends that Ted was set up in the death of Mary Jo Kopeckne. This theory makes an interesting read, but I'm not sure how convincing. That is left up to the reader.

I hardly ever read non-fiction books, but after watching Oliver Stone's "JFK" for the second time in my life and listening to the director's commentary, I wanted to find out where the facts really were in the movie. The book gets very detailed and I feel like I should read it a second time to understand all of the facts from the four "conspiracies" that comprise the book. The author highlights four high profile events that he claims were constructed to ruin the Kennedy's reputation and hinder their ability to get elected to the White House. Those four events are Marilyn Monroe's "suicide," JFK's assassination, RFK's assasination, and Teddy Kennedy and the Chappaquiddick incident. Who knows if all his claims are correct, but there is overwhelming evidence that pieces of information were withheld or hidden from the American public. If you believe everything the government tells you, then you won't like this book. For everyone else, it is quite eye-opening.
