A pretty decent book about homeschooling. Draws from lots of child psychology books, not just the DeMille's books, which I appreciated. I ended up photocopying several of the charts to use as a "mini" version of the book for my reference, as I have to return the book to the friend who lent it to me. Covers how to homeschool children aged 8-14 years. Focus on how to learn, not what to learn, by creating 4-6 week "projects" that explore one thing in particular. This could be anything, from "Backyard Ballistas" (the science of how things explode) to Newspapers to Tea Parties. Whatever makes your group happy. She explains a lot about how to create the kind of environment that's very encouraging for children and that makes them feel like they know what to do and how to do it. As I mentioned, the charts are very helpful, and she breaks down several different types of projects at the end of the book so you can see in detail how to do a project.

Lovely book with great, specific ideas for developing Love of Learning projects! I appreciated the unique perspective of the author, who studied education in depth and brought that depth to the principles of "Leadership Education" which I earned elsewhere. If you've read other books on this philosophy, the beginning might be redundant for you. However, there are some great quotes and perspectives in that section that you may not have read in other LE books. Ugh! Wish she had started the book with the last two chapters. I almost didn't finish because I felt like she was just repeating things from The Phases of Learning. But there were a few quotes that were gems along the way, and the last two chapters had the information I wanted, so a good book in the end.
