Dear Friends, It might be better if I didn’t confess this right up front. But I thought you should know.... WARNING: Licensed to Thrill is a nefarious plot. How so? WARNING: Licensed to Thrill is a nefarious plot. How so? Like the famous potato chips, we hope you won’t be able to stop after reading this collection of special gems not gathered anywhere else. Fiendishly clever, isn’t it? Exactly. We need to give you enough to whet your appetite and draw you in, but not so much that you’ll no longer be hungry for more. A fine line. Tricky. Challenging. Fun! Here’s what we selected for your reading pleasure in Licensed to Thrill: A Diane Capri Sampler Fatal Enemy, featuring the new heroine I really love—Jess Kimball. A fiery woman, driven by her own past to fight for crime victims the justice system failed. Jess reminds me of Jack Reacher, only female, smaller, and nicer. Jess is alone in the world wherever she goes. But unlike Reacher, Jess's mission is one only she believes in and only she can complete. In Jess’s shoes, could you do what she’s done? I wonder.... Jess Kimball’s story continues in the sample of Fatal Distraction, which opened as the Amazon #3 Bestselling Legal Thriller, behind John Grisham. What a thrill that was for me. (Why? Hang on — I’m getting to that.) Behind the Book scoop on my friendship with #1 worldwide publishing phenomenon Lee Child who calls my work, "Full of thrills and tension, but smart and human, too." Lee gave the Hunt for Reacher series an enthusiastic two thumbs up: “Kim Otto is a great, great character. I love her!” Don’t Know Jack garnered #1 Amazon Bestseller spots on the Mystery, Hard-boiled Mystery, Police Procedural, Women Sleuths, and Legal Thriller lists both in the U.S. and U.K. The sample here should whet your appetite to find out what happens when two F.B.I. agents are tasked with the mysterious and confounding task of hunting Jack Reacher. What does law have to do with justice? We lawyers are an odd bunch and the law is a very strange mixture of the best and the worst of times for heroes and villains alike in my Justice Series of witty legal suspense mysteries. All six of these are set in Florida, so if it’s a bit cold where you are right now, take a little trip with me to the Sunshine State where things are a whole lot warmer. Readers and reviewers alike love this series, but when the mystery reviewers at Romantic Times awarded Wasted Justice their coveted "Top Pick" -- well, all I can say is what a rush!

Licensed to Thrill Sampler - a review by Rosemary Kenny This cleverly-assembled compendium is a sparkling symposium, that encapsulates the diverse and fascinating mind of author Diane Capri to great effect. The seven tales within showcase Ms Capri's talents, with something for every reader, no matter how hard to satisfy! Numbers one and two, Fatal Enemy and Fatal Distraction, introduce Jess Kimball - the former a kidnapping/murder case that's close to Jess' heart; the latter has Jess bonding with a bereaved mother, who's also the Governor of Florida and a lawyer, which ends on a cliffhanger. Book three, Don't Know Jack, introduces Agent Kim Otto on her first mission - to find and recruit the will-o-the-wisp that is Jack Reacher, to the Special Personnel Task Force she's part of. Numbers four, five and six are Twisted Justice, Secret Justice and Wasted Justice; this trilogy all features Judge Willa Carson as their heroine. They show her feisty spirit and wisdom [both in and out of the courtroom], plus her 'unflappability' in the face of murder and mayhem - even when her own family's involved. Lastly we meet lawyer Jennifer Lane in book seven Raw Justice. This case starts with a violent death during a vicious storm and also introduces another lawyer, Stuart Barrett to work with Jennifer on an unusual missing persons case that also ends with a cliffhanger. Though small, these novellas/character assessments are beautifully formed teasers, that whet the appetite for the full-bodied thrills to be found in the books they're drawn from...you'll love them all - I know I did!

I do enjoy Diane Capri's style of writing; I just don't like to read "previews" of books. I learned a while back that if I read several chapters of any book I will probably never read the entire book. The reason for this is that when I later (sometimes much later) read the synopsis of the book itself, I assume I've already read the book and don't read it. Thus the 3.5 star rating of this one. This sampler gives you a taste of a number of the author's books. You can tell that she writes well, has interesting stories and interesting characters. She does a good job developing them. However there seems to be detail missing. We really don't learn anything about Peter or what his mother is doing to discover his whereabouts. In some cases the detail seems to be wrong. We really don't learn anything about Peter or what his mother is doing to discover his whereabouts. In some cases the detail seems to be wrong. One of the characters is shot at fairly close range with a hunting rifle. The victim was wearing a bulletproof vest. There are many possibilities for a hunting rifle, but most of them would punch right through a bulletproof vest at close range. The victim would have had to be wearing body armor to have any hope of stopping a hi-velocity hunting round, perhaps a .30/06. Later in the same story the House is doing everything possible to stop a Supreme Court nominee. That is stated as if it might be possible. She correctly notes that it is the Senate which conducts the hearings, so the House cannot directly influence the process at all. This book also treats us to lots of reviews of the author's work and some discussion of her life. There is also discussion with Lee Child who originated the Jack Reacher series of books. There is also linkage to the John Grisham books. It's as if the samples chosen were not sufficient to sell the reader on her writing. Instead names need to be dropped and reviews given to push us after her other books.

"Samplers can work" I hadn't read anything by Diane Capri before. I'd heard of her, but legal dramas aren't my thing. I chose to read this because it was a sampler. I got a taste of what her characters were about and what all the fuss was about. It's no surprise she's so successful. She's a great writer. I thoroughly enjoyed what was included within this offering. I haven't changed my mind about the genre, but now and again it helps to read something outside your comfort zone. I started to read this book mainly due to the hype Amazon marketed it. I am sadly disappointed to the point that I just could not read the book any longer. I bear no will to author so I will end saying that the book isn’t worth spending any time on .

I have been a fan of the Reacher series fro The Killing Floor. The companion series fro Capri is a great follow up. In addition to making me want to back and read the Reacher books, I can hardly wait to see what these two FBI agents will find out about Reacher. I wonder what will happen if they ever catch him. The hunt is just beginning!

I knew going in that this was a sampler. But this was a new writer to me, so I went in. Diane Capre is a good writer. I will have to read one of her full length books to know if the fit is right but I will buy another of her books.
