This would be one hilarious book -- if it weren't so sad as well. Christopher Cerf and Victor Navasky quote all the "experts" who got the U.S. involved in the attack and occupation of Iraq -- and members of the media who were apologists for the Bush administration -- and show that they were all wrong year and year. Despite their wrongheadedness, these same people continue to wield power in the federal government and/or continue to be interviewed as "experts" on network and cable TV and in newspa This would be one hilarious book -- if it weren't so sad as well. This is an entertaining, but disturbing, look at how pretty much everyone -- Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, politician, pundit, reporter, editor, military officer -- bungled the issue of Iraq in the early part of the 21st century. It features illuminating and sometimes depressing quotations from 2001 up to 2007, as well as some from the 90s that cast later decisions in a new light. It's funny, but it's also sad. The chapter on the justification of torture is particularly depressing, but I think this book should be required reading in the years to come, as future generations try to figure out just what the people in power in the last decade were thinking.
