I won a copy on Goodreads Firstreads. Okay to be totally truthful, I have not rea all of this book. I read the parts on astrology and "how to use the book" sections. I have looked at quite a few recipes but have not read them all. I know some people actually read cookbooks but I treat them more as reference books. I try to get familiar with what they contain so I will know when to use them. Looking at this book in that light then, I would have to say the book gave me mixed feelings. I try to get familiar with what they contain so I will know when to use them. Looking at this book in that light then, I would have to say the book gave me mixed feelings. From the astrological section, I learned that sun signs are just the barest scratch on the surface of the astrological charts. More important is knowing your Rising Sign, the 4th and 6th houses and the nothern and southern nodes. Now the book stresses that you can use the recipes based on any or even none of these. The disappointing thing was the only way the book suggested in getting anything besides your sun sign was to buy a copy of your chart from the author. Being on a very limited budget, I turned to what a lot of us turn to nowadays. The internet. It didn't let me down either. There were 2 diferent free Rising House calculators. But I hit another problem. You need to know what time you were born. I was born long ago enough, that the hospital had two different maternity wards.(Upstairs for whites, downstairs for blacks- yes this was during segregation and was in the deep south.I am not saying it was right, just how it was.) So naturally my birth certificate does not list my actual birth time. From my family, I am able to narrow it down to a 30 minute window (my brothers and sisters remembered what they were watching on TV--Wonderful World of Disney or My Favorite Martian). When I typed in different times during this 30 minutes, I got different Rising Houses. Even worse, I got different Rising Houses when I entered the same times into the 2 different calculators. So much for my being able to fully experience astrological dining. So what about the recipes? Naturally there are a few that I know I will never make(or whoever is cooking). I mean where would I even find elk, bison or wild boar anyway? But there are many more that sound wonderful. (But I coming from the south, I will never call tomato sauce gravy. I would probably be locked up in a mental ward if I did. At the very least, I would have the starngest spaghetti dinner I ever ate.) I would have liked to have seen even more pictures of the food. While it was a cool idea to group the foods under the various signs, it will take a little getting used to looking them up when you want to use them. (Perhaps an alphabetical index at back in later volumes could be added.)I really enjoyed the people who were examples of the various nodes. This would a nice gift for someone who is a little more aware of their astrological leanings. Of course it also would make a nice gift for cookbook collectors because it does that little bit extra to make it stand out form all of the others.

I have always been fascinated by astrology, and I am a passionate foodie who loves to cook, so when I received this book to review I immediately went to the chapter featuring my zodiac sign, Scorpio. I loved the intriguing reference information that the author provides for each sign, I was nodding my head in agreement as I read the information about the Scorpio traits that people born under that sign have, knowing that she pegged me dead on! Each chapter begins with a brief focus on the reference information on the featured zodiac sign. Then the author takes you through a richly descriptive and visually appealing full course meal plan of tantalizing recipes that will simply make your mouth water. What I liked the most about this cookbook was the wide variety of recipes that the author has included to whet the reader's appetite. There is sure to be a favorite recipe to suit everyone's individual taste. But what I loved most of all was the diversity of the recipes, they simply piqued my interest to try new flavors and food items, from comfort food to fine cuisine, this delightful cook book with an astrological twist has it all! Bon appetite! This is my most favorite cookbook. I'm a big time astrology buff so I knew this was a cookbook for me. I checked out my sign, Virgo, and almost all the recipes were perfect for me. I say almost because I'm vegetarian and the book has plenty of meat and seafood dishes. I loved the photos, which are great to look through even if you're not planning on cooking. The recipes include a lot of fresh and familiar ingredients but they are still unique and interesting. This book has some interesting and fun information on each of the Sun Signs but does not get so deep that you forget it's a cookbook. I laughed a number of times when reading the tidbits on friends' and family's sun sign recipes. This book makes it easy to make the perfect meal for anyone - all you have to know is their sun sign and they will think you are the greatest cook on earth. This would make a great gift for anyone especially if they enjoy astrology. I recommend viewing the author's cooking video on YouTube (link on her website signsofthetines.com) to get a sample of her personality and cooking style. I loved both. Here are some of my favorites - yours will vary by sign Stuffed Pumpkin - minus the heavy Cancer cream (great centerpiece for the holidays) (fresh) Corn Soup - a Virgo favorite Fennel with Tomatoes, Artichokes and Olives (photo will win you over) - so very Virgo Acorn Squash Stuffed with Apples, Figs & Grapes - Fit for a Leo Zucchini Crepes - for my Scorpio rising Chocolate Raspberry Ramekins - Virgo temptation Blueberry Polenta - a Gemini treat I had to try

The aromas are to die for. The photos/images do suggest presentation and that is so important. I feel that Joan Porte has given a new meaning to good cooking as it should be. Family do gather more often when food is this good. Also, I do recommend this cookbook for easy to follow instructions. Signs in the Tines will turn out to be the best gift you give yourself or to someone you have on your list. Adriana LG Happy Reading
