“Worn me down like a road. I did everything you told. Worn me down to my knees. I did everything to please.” Austin Conrad has never taken his personal life seriously. As a Navy SEAL, he spends all of his time in dangerous, life-threatening situations. The only way to leave behind the horrors he’s seen throughout his career, is to turn it all off when he gets home. He’s too “Worn me down like a road. He’s too much of a playboy to settle down; even if he did find a woman he could stand to be around for more than one night, he would never taint her life with the demons of his past. When his best friend and SEAL team member, Brady Marshall asks him to keep an eye on his baby sister, Gwen, Austin figures it will be a walk in the park. The only thing Austin likes more than flirting his way under a beautiful woman’s skin, is walking away with a smile on his face. Austin never expects that the single mom and her little girl will be the ones getting under his skin. Gwen Stratford knows all too well about living in a nightmare. After taking her daughter and fleeing from her abusive husband in the middle of the night several months ago, she’s worked hard to get her life back on track and forget about the man who tried to break her. Growing up under the iron thumb of her parents and then moving right on with a man who ruled their marriage with his fists, Gwen is finally able to breathe and live her life the way she wants. When scary, mysterious things begin to happen to Gwen and her daughter, she realizes you can never outrun your past; it always has a way of catching up with you. As she struggles with the desire to keep her newfound independence, she knows she won’t be able to protect herself and her child alone. She’ll need to lean on the one man who drives her crazy. Can Gwen really put her trust in a man who thinks life is one big joke, or will he be just another man in her life who tries to wear her down?

✭✭✭✭✭5 Wear Me Down Stars✭✭✭✭✭ Well ... I just devoured that book! This is the third book in an absolutely stunning series by Tara Sivec aka T.E. Sivec & this is the best of the series so far. Loved every second! . Gwen is a whole new woman, moving on with her life. Leaving an abusive marriage with her 6 year old daughter, Emma in tow was not the hardest thing … learning to live with the after effects of her abuse, her domineering parents and her feelings of weakness … that is the tough part. There’s a piece of my heart living and breathing outside of my body and for six years it's been the most amazing miracle … now I realize just how fragile that piece of my heart is … Austin is a hard as nails Navy SEAL. A childhood full of foster homes and feelings of being unwanted and unloved has him convinced…. he is not a family man. His only true family are his SEAL brothers … and he likes it that way. The job is everything to him … what woman would want a life with a man like him? I know nothing about communicating with a woman unless we’re naked and I’m telling her to fuck me harder. When Austin is asked to watch over Gwen as a favor to her brother, he has no idea what he’s protecting her from. He also has no idea that she’s got a child. His only interactions with his friend’s mouthy sister have ended with her pissed off & him feeling a little turned on. Gwen’s not happy about being babysat by a man, who in her estimation, is an egotistical ass with a love em’ & leave em’ lifestyle. She’s doing just fine on her own. She doesn’t want anyone to know what her life used to be like. Well … sparks fly … hearts are melted ... panties too … and we end up with a beautiful romance strung tightly together by an element of suspenseful drama, with some awesome action & a twist thrown in for good measure. My Thoughts Dual POV! Need I say more? I love how these two were at each other’s throat for a good portion of the book. We didn’t jump head first in love - so refreshing. The romantic tension is palpable. I enjoyed that both Austin and Gwen tried to deny that they were falling in love. It’s not like I want to be with him forever. That’s just silly. Right? He lights my body on fire and that’s enough to make any woman question her judgment, but he also takes care of Emma and he’s not afraid of my scars or what my past has done to me. He’s protective and trustworthy and he makes me feel alive. I’m absolutely not in love with him, there’s just no way. And having a child in the mix … just loved that aspect of this story. Emma’s character and her interactions were sweet and emotional. ”I love you, Austin. Can you tuck me in to bed every night?” Emma whispers sleepily. Closing my eyes, I don’t say anything in return. I’m afraid if I open my mouth now, I’ll cry like a fucking baby. There was a ton of suspense too. Ms. Sivec did an amazing job of making me fear for the safety of our characters. And I will admit, that I was shocked by the plot twist. I did figure it out just a bit before the reveal … but it still surprised me - hard to do in this type of story, I usually feel let down by that part. I loved the character development and watching two strong individuals come together to create a family. Overall, another fabulous book by Tara Sivec … one of my very favorite authors. And another book added to my 6 Star Best-of-the-Best shelf!

4.5....i want more!!!!! I love this series!!! I am a sucker for any kinds of military alpha hotness and a tough sassy women to compliment that! Tara Sivec has provided a super read that was so fast paced, action packed, a tad bit suspenseful, and hot! Austin in the epitome of Navy Seal perfection as he is strong, smart and intense. He has his own insecurities stemming from a poor childhood, but he has found his stength and family in the military. His loyalty to his brothers has landed him in the 4.5....i want more!!!!! His loyalty to his brothers has landed him in the position to watch over his friend's sister. Gwen is not what she seems...behind the sassy hard core single mom, is a broken woman on the run. She is determined to make a safe, happy life for her daughter and Austin's presence has her wanting something intimate for the first time in years. Oh Gwen...i am with you girl as Austin would have me panty dropping in no time! along with the amazing heat and intimacy, it does not take long for Gwen and her daughter Emma to sink deep into Austin's mind and heart. He cannot understand why he is so drawn toward "his girls," so leaving is the only way to prevent them long term heartache. Gwen's past catches up to her in a horrific way and puts everyting in perspective stat for Austin! My only complaint with this read is that i wish i had 200 more pages! I love this story and i wanted more...Austin and Gwen were fast and furious...exposive! Everything happened over the course of days and i wanted long drawn out scenes! Im selfish! I could have read their tale for days!

She had Emma , the cutest daughter ever ... She was running from the big bad wolf....aka her abusive husband [forgot the name]... Gwen's brother asked Austin , our prince to take care of her and Emma .. Gwen's best friend Ellie , who has become the earlier blonde version of Gwen , comes to meet her .. Ellie has been dating the bad wolf and swears he has changed . Gwen is being threatened by her to be ex-husband all the while she and Austin are falling in love .... Austin has to leave for his duties , so he decides to put the big bad wolf in jail . But before Gwen can sign the papers , she and Emma are kidnapped... Gwen finds out it was Ellie [villain] who kidnapped her and has been in love with the wolf forever . The minute Ellie is going to shoot Emma , Austin swoops in and saves the day ... Yeah , prince killing villain to save princess....of course that's why its familiar . Its a FREAKING FAIRY TALE !!! NOTE: I do not mean to mock the subject of domestic abuse or anything , in fact the excellent portrayal of Gwen's fears , pain and humiliation from the abuse and her love for Emma are the reason why I gave it 2.5 Stars instead of 1 . Gwen has trusted the wrong people in her past . You would think that a person who has had such a painful past would be more careful with their choices in future . Sadly , that was not what I got to see here . When your best friend of years , who has seen you at your lowest and helped you when your husband hit you , comes to meet you and tells you that she is dating said husband . What do you do ?? Let me tell you what I would do . I would be suspicious , not trust a person who betrayed my trust so badly and keep her the hell away from my daughter . Now lets see what Gwen did , she understood where Ellie came from and said that she had been in a similar position . That is where this is WRONG . Gwen fell in love with her husband and then found out her husband was abusive . While Ellie already knew what kind of person he was and still CHOSE to date the asshole . Even if we get past the issue of understanding , did the fact that Ellie changed into an earlier version of Gwen not make her the least bit suspicious ?? Or the fact that Ellie kept defending her abusive husband? But no , she not only trusts her to help them , she trusts her with her daughter !!!! WHAT SANE PERSON DOES THAT ?? And the plot ?? Well if you've read the entire review you already know about the fairy tale that it is and the absolutely unbelievable and predictable insta love between Austin and Gwen . The entire thing is just sort of 'been-there-read-that' But I loved Emma , she was cute :D

All that hardness doesn't magically become soft. He just adds that extra love to who he already is. This book had everything that I look for in an alpha-action series. An amazingly strong heroine, but one that still needs to be protected, and a hero that blindly fills that roll. It's his instinctual need to protect that's so incredibly sexy and Austin wears it like a shield. He is sexy. The sexual and emotional chemistry between Austin and Gwen was palpable and the sex was written with such passion that even my toes came…..twice. I was also amazed with the pace. It was over as soon as I started, and I enjoyed every single minute. I especially loved the moments between Austin and Emma. I melted and laughed hysterically all in the same moment. I just love how the contrast of Barbie Dream Houses, Disney movies, and pink nail polish fit so perfectly with playing Navy SEAL, insurgents, and swear jars. T.E. Sivec wove all of it together naturally….perfectly. I can't help, but be impressed with the growth I've seen in T.E. Sivec's writing. She was able to deliver so much in just one book. Action, humor, passion, and heart. I can't wait for the next book in this series, and yes….Austin is now officially the capital of my panties!! READ ON!

We met Austin in A Beautiful Lie" target="_blank">A Beautiful Lie (Playing with Fire 1), but it was in the last book that I fell for his flirty banter. The Prologue...wow. Worn Me Down begins with a bang! It actually starts in the future, and the rest of the story goes back two months to explain how we got there. So you know it's going to happen and you are on the edge of your seat wondering when and how the whole time. Sometimes you forget, and slip into that nice calm happy place. Until you remember the prologue and BAM. Back to this. I love a book with kids in it. And Tara writes kids great. Though nothing can compare to Gavin, Emma, Gwen's daughter, was the perfect little girl. 6 years old and all about pink and Barbies, you can't help but fall in love with her and want to help Gwen protect her. Gwen has done everything to protect her little girl from seeing the horrible abuse she received for 10 years from her husband, until finally after a really bad beating, she grabbed Emma ran to her brother Brady's and hid. Brady is a former SEAL and owns an investigation company. Gwen is tough, and she works at the company as well, and is damn good at it. But when Brady goes off on tour with Layla, he doesn't want to leave Gwen alone knowing her ex was out there. So he leaves his SEAL friend Austin to keep an eye on her. "I don't need you, or anyone to babysit me. I'm a grown ass woman and can handle things just fine on my own." "Oh believe me, it's quite obvious just how grown you are," he tells me quietly, his eyes traveling down the front of my body. It's disgusting and dirty. And it makes me weak in the knees. Austin doesn't actually know why he needs to look after Gwen, but he senses there is something deeper than it seems. Still Gwen is a total bitch to him. "At least one good thing will come of her being such a bitch - I won't be tempted to sleep with her any time soon. I prefer a woman to use her tongue on me for pleasure, not making be miserable with her verbal lashes." Yeah...right. But then Austin starts to feel more. This confirmed bachelor, who never did relationships or spent any time around kids willingly, started to have his heart melted. "A weird feeling tugs at my heart as I watch her tuck her hands under her cheek. She's so small, so vulnerable and trusting. She's obviously seen some not-so-good things in her short, six years and yet she's happy and full of life." Seriously, is there anything hotter than a big bad Navy SEAL melting at the sight of a little girl who isn't even his? Gwen and Austin banter and they fight...but there is something between them. A spark, a heat that can't be denied. "I knew from the first moment she called me an ass that kissing her would be like a fiery explosion, neither one of us surviving without getting burned. She's mouthy and she's stubborn, but there's a vulnerability buried deep down inside that makes me want to take care of her, consume her and protect her at all costs" Gwen isn't ready. She thinks she is damaged and that she is no good for any man. She won't let Austin in. But when scary things start to happen, and she knows her ex found her, she can't shut Austin out any more. And when they finally get together...yum. "Keep your eyes on me. When you come, I want you to know it's me doing this to you." Then came one of the sexiest shower scenes ever. I'm a sucker for the big strong guy how protects his woman from evil. But this time it's even better because he has a woman and a little girl too. As the danger heated up...I stayed up till 4:30 AM reading. Likes: •Sucked me in from page one. •It took a while for Austin to get anywhere with Gwen, no insta love. •Emma. I absolutely loved the little girl. •The book went from present to flashback and had both Austin's and Gwen's POV, and I never had any issues following. • Hot sex with an alpha guy who can also be gentle. •Reading about how Emma melted Austin's heart. •Tara did a great job of recapping the other books without going overboard and boring those who remember. •Twists and turns I never expected. Dislikes: •Most of the story was not that unique. A big security guy protecting a woman from her violent ex is a pretty common theme. But Tara gave a twist that I didn't expect. Rating: 4.5 Stars, 4.5 Heat I love a book where the confirmed bachelor falls for the girl he is protecting. I love it even more when there is a child involved.  Tara did a phenomenal job telling the is story, weaving the past and present together and throwing out curveballs you don't expect. The woman has a twisted mind, and it amazes me that she can write such different types of books. 4.5 STARS! I must admit that I have not read any of the prior books in this series and though this book can totally be read as a standalone, I kick myself for not reading the others because I know I am totally missing out! The prologue immediately captures my attention and from the start I am swept away into this story that was action packed, kept me on the edge of my seat and connected me to a cast of characters that I fell in love with and want to know more about. That being said, the prior book 4.5 STARS! That being said, the prior books are on my never ending TBR list and I will hopefully go back to read them! Austin is a Navy Seal and best friends with Gwen's brother, Brady. Given the Seals motto of always being there for each other, Austin immediately comes to Gwen's aid when Brady asks him to. I am beyond excited when Austin walks into the PI office where Gwen and Brady work because I want to see the relationship and sparks that will fly when Gwen realizes that Austin is here to stay to aid and protect her. And boy do they fly! I LOVE Austin's arrogant but fun, strong and dedicated personality. He is a real MAN's MAN and in my mind hot as hell. Gwen is divorced from her ex husband having an abusive relationship with him causing her to be mistrusting of all men. Including Austin. They are the epitome of oil and water. But I LOVE IT! I loved them - their bantering, their chemistry - it all worked so well for me! Austin has a past that Gwen doesn't realize. He coming from foster homes and not having a true family. Seeing his interactions with Gwen's daughter Emma had me smiling, laughing out loud and even choking up - because though he feels that he is not ready for a family or will ever be a good dad - his strength and protective nature with Emma contradicts his thoughts. Tara totally threw me for a loop while I was reading as I had several theories running throughout my mind. I sat at the edge of my seat biting my nails because I was not only curious as to how it would end but I was scared and nervous too! And WOW when we finally get the answers to our questions - it caught me completely off guard! I now have to go back and read this entire series as Tara has again completely captivated me in another book she has written - each so different from the other but proving to us how Tara is a true artist with her words and how she can write almost anything and be truly great at it! Job well done!

I have to say, I love the way Tara Sivec's brain works. Even though Worn Me Down isn't the same type of book as the Chocoholics series, her trademark humor makes itself known in dialogue and character actions. Sparkly, pink gun, anyone? Gwen, the heroine, has had such a tough life. Many times, I've heard the questions, "Why didn't she just leave him? I would never stay with someone who laid his hands on me." (Even I am guilty of that!) In this book, however, I completely understand and empathize I have to say, I love the way Tara Sivec's brain works. (Even I am guilty of that!) In this book, however, I completely understand and empathize with Gwen. She had no support system. Her parents refused to believe her and, even if they had, would probably have been more concerned with what the neighbors thought, the police would likely have covered up any reported incidents, and her husband would alternate his periods of violence with gentleness and regret. Her choice to flee was difficult and could have very well ended badly if her brother hadn't been a good guy. I also think her in-your-face attitude has a lot to do with compensating for what she views as her weakness, which is really just a lack of self-worth caused by her ex-husband. Undermining a woman's self-esteem is the first step of many abusers. She needs a man in her life who is willing to take a kick to the teeth just for a chance to be closer to her, who can see past her prickly demeanor to the wonderful, damaged woman she is beneath. This brings me to Austin. Austin has his own issues and baggage. Like Gwen, his self-worth has been undermined, but it was done long ago when he was a child. While he has confidence in himself in regards to his job, he doesn't truly believe he can maintain good personal relationships. So he doesn't try. In reality, he has all the makings of a fantastic husband and father. He only lacks the self-awareness to see it. It doesn't hurt that he's tall, built, and freaking hot as hell. I could probably endure some emotional baggage in order for a chance to let Austin rock my world. I must also say, I love the twist to this book. While I suspected a certain person (no spoilers, as River Song would say), I honestly did not expect what really happened. Oh, and if you're looking for some hot, sexy times, this book is for you as well! Damn! Overall, an awesome read!

Where do I start? I absolutely loved this book! I am having a hard time finding the words to say why this series is one of the best you will ever read! Brady... the badass Navy SEAL. But I will not confirm or deny it. Trust. That's one thing that doesn't come easy for either of them. Their lives have taught them that trust is something that is earned by loyalty. When things start to go awry, neither of them know who they can trust, including one another. Even though they both want to trust the other, they find it harder than you would think. I really love how well Tara is able to cause her readers to not know what instincts to trust in this book. Just when you think you have everything figured out, another wrench comes flying at you. My head was spinning around and around. I felt like I was a dog chasing my own tail! I think this book is, hands down, is the best in the series so far. I can't wait for the fourth and final book!!

I really, really enjoyed this book. Austin and Gwen were fun and engaging characters to read and I loved their verbal sparring. Gwen is such a smart ass and she won't take any shit from anyone, much less Austin. Austin knows that he can't resist Gwen but he sure does try! Sometimes, books where the main characters engage in a lot of verbal sparring, get weighed down with attitude and it bores me to tears. This one did not, in fact they actually talked about what they were feeling. Austin totally I really, really enjoyed this book. It was refreshing to have these kinds of mature adult conversations that do not dissolve into who can be a bigger smartass. They both have their own big bags of baggage that they bring to the table. Austin is afraid to be more to a woman than a booty call and keeps them at arms length and Gwen just plain can't trust a man to not hurt her again. So, we get to sit back watch the show. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and is not a paid review. Worn Me Down is the story of Gwen and Austin two characters whom we've met in previous installments. This is story is of survival for Gwen and acceptance for Austin. When they first meet, sparks fly even before they both realize it. Gwen is a spitfire, the complete opposite of the woman she was for ten years during her marriage. She completely dumbfounds Austin. He's used to coming and going as he pleases without any attachments except his SEAL brothers. They are sweet, funny, and feisty. Gwen's daughter, Emma, is so sweet and charming it isn't long before Austin is playing SEALs with Emma and her parade of Barbie’s. The Playing with Fire Series never disappoints. However, the first two books were longer and more detailed. A Beautiful Lie is one of my favorite reads by this author. I think Gwen and Austin's story could have been a bit longer, or even just a tad longer epilogue but it's still an awesome read. The author still managed to prove these characters to me with a shorter novel. Worn Me Down is the story of two people creating a family they never realized they wanted. It's a relationship where both parties find something extremely special in the other in order to move on and heal.

Hot Navy SEAL? Independent strong woman? A checkered past? An adorable 6 year old in love with barbies, everything pink, and the start of a large college fund? CHECK! Another great piece of work churned out by Tara Sivec! Literally once I started reading I couldn't put it down. I love Gwen and Austin so much. And little Emma?! Oh to have her and Gavin (from Chocolate Lovers) together would be hilarious! Well done, again, Tara! Hot Navy SEAL? Independent strong woman? A checkered past? 4.5 stars - totally loved it, Navy Seal that plays insurgents with pink Barbies is one stand up guy in my book. As usual Tara shows her serious side with a side helping of humour. LOVED IT! (review to follow).

One…it will captivate and hold my attention. Two…it will have insanely amazing bad ass characters. Three…I will never see anything coming plot wise. Four…I will fall helplessly and hopelessly in love with the couple and never want the story to end. Well…mission accomplished Tara Sivec…mission accomplished. I am hooked like a crack addict on this series and I have no shame in admitting it. Now...Worn Me Down can be read as a stand alone and it would make perfect sense but...I think the series means more if you read the books in order since each book builds off the other. Gwen Marshall…she goes by many names. Gwendolyn to her parents who built her into their idea of perfection…Gwen Stratford to her ass hole soon to be ex-husband…Gwenny to her friends growing up…and her favorite name ever…Mom. But after living her life the same way for over 10 years…being the ‘good daughter’ and the ‘good wife’…Gwen is finally standing up for herself and doing what she needs to do for her daughter and for herself. She’s shed her ‘perfect’ image…got rid of the long blonde hair in exchange for dark hair with blue and purple (which I think is bad ass for the record) and she has decided to stop living behind the scars of her past. Gwen won me over in Because of You and I knew I was not going to have any problems falling more in love with her character. There are a lot of layers to Gwen and from the little I gathered in BoY, I couldn't wait to find out about. I knew it was tragic…but it was worse than I thought. No one deserves to go through the amount of pain that she went through and my heart broke for her. With that said Gwen is not the sum of her mistakes. She is a mother, she is a fighter, she is smart, she is brave and she has a great big brother that is willing to help her through the hardest time in her life. Above all what I loved the most about Gwen is she is the most amazing mother. I loved her relationship with Emma and I could not get enough of seeing them together. Her entire purpose is to keep that little girl safe and I saw that time and time again. ‘It’s always easy to judge other people when you have no idea what kind of life they live behind closed doors, when you’ve never walked one footstep in their shoes or when you’ve never given your heart to a man you believe when he told you it would never happen again.’ Austin Conrad is the quintessential career SEAL. He's a badass and unfortunately…he knows it. This makes for an interesting combination of cocky and arrogant while also infuriatingly hot. He's also a bit of a manwhore…which we all know is one of my all-time weaknesses. All of Austin's behavior stems from his upbringing. He was raised in the foster system and never knew what it meant to have a family…he never had a home, he never had stability or love or consistency. He joined the Navy as soon as he could and that has been his family and all he has known…and the SEALS are not exactly known for being warm and fuzzy. Of course that broke my heart but it makes the situation with Gwenn and Emma that much harder because he wants something with them…but he doesn't know how to make it happen. Heck, he doesn’t even know how to process how he feels about everything because it’s so foreign for him. It's hard to want something so bad but not know anything about it. ‘I knew from the first moment she called me an ass that kissing her would be like a fiery explosion, neither one of us surviving without getting burned. She’s mouthy and she’s stubborn, but there’s a vulnerability buried deep down inside that makes me want to take care of her, consume her and protect her at all costs.’ Gwen and Austin should never have been. He’s the hot-shot career SEAL who is never going to settle down and she’s the mom with a horrible past who has trust issues. Both of them don’t want to want each other (something I will never get enough of!) but are completely drawn together. I loved how combative they both are…like if they weren’t so turned on by each other they would probably kill one another. I bet it makes for some awesome angry sex…but I digress. I mean…on paper…they are complete opposites…which is another reason why I was even more drawn to them. I love that he can’t get enough of her sassy mouth and I love even more how much her heart melts when she sees Austin interact with Emma…and the thing I loved the most was watching his heart open up to accept the fact that he could love someone and have a family. While I’m on the topic of family can I just state for the record that Emma stole my heart. I mean…she’s a loveable little girl, so of course she was going to win me over, but her interactions with Austin, especially at the very end…omg…it’s impossible not to fall in love with their relationship and the bond that she and Austin form. ‘Gwen turns her face towards me and our noses are practically touching. I can feel her breath on my face and I know if I don’t move away, I’m going to be hard as a rock in two seconds. This woman drives me fucking insane, but she’s also hot as hell and the strongest person I’ve ever been around considering what her life has been like. Even though I don’t like the direction of my thoughts lately where Gwen’s concerned, there's nothing this woman does that can’t turn me one.’ Holy banana’s…I never ever in a million years thought I would like action and suspense to level that is in this books mixed with my romance…but I really do. The fact that this series broke the mold for me is kind of monumental. It excites me! I could not get enough of Worn Me Down…I finished it in less than 24 hours and every second that I couldn’t read it, it was pure torture! Completely addictive…but that’s what this series is. It sucks you in, you’re compelled by the story line but it’s also relatable and natural. There is so much angst and drama but mixed in with just the right amount of sweet and swoony moments and good lord have mercy don't even get me started on the sex...it's just fabulous. Like hot damn…apparently I need to go find me a SEAL because I am sorely missing out. ;-) If I had anything to complain about it would be that I wished Gwen and Austin had more time to connect. I loved seeing them together…whether it involved Emma or just the two of them but with everything that was going on, it’s obviously really hard for them to focus on just them. I saw and felt their connection even with what we did get…which is why I craved more – so that’s just me being a hopeless romantic and always wanting more. ‘“Jesus, you’re so fucking beautiful,” he whispers. There’s conviction and awe in his voice as he looks at every inch of my body. For the first time in years, I don’t feel the need to cover myself, to hid my scars to look away in embarrassment – I feel beautiful with Austin.’ So…let’s just talk about the writing real quick. I love Tara’s writing – whether it’s as Tara Sivec or T.E. Sivec…the fact that all that brilliance is packed into one brain just flaws me and makes me feel like an insufficient human. Like maybe if I rub up on her, some of the genius will brush off onto me. Maybe? It could happen, right? Her style is one of a kind…because even with the Playing With Fire series, it’s obviously a more serious/dramatic series, but it’s still got that little edge of humor and sarcasm blended in there…which when dealing with high anxiety situations is completely necessary, needed and appropriate. I really enjoyed the pacing, it was never rushed and the transitions were smooth and something I really appreciate in Worn Me Down, as well as in the other two books, is how complete they all feel. The plot is not simple and the end result cannot just be wrapped up in a nice neat bow where everything is hunky-dory and wonderful. No…the characters go thru some heavy shit and it’s not easy or fun but we go through it with them to the very end. Even if that means we don’t get an HEA till the very last page, I at least know that that HEA is complete and logical and flows with the rest of the story. ‘I didn’t know until I was gone that everything I’d ever wanted was right here in front of me. I was afraid. I was afraid to tell you how much I wanted you only to have you tell me that you couldn’t handle a life with me because of the job I have. You and Emma are important to me, I love you both, but my job is also important. I don’t want to let you and Emma down, but I also can’t let my men down and I don’t know how the fuck to have both. I don’t know how to do this, but I want to try. I want to wake up to you every day when I’m home and I want to play fucking Barbies with Emma every night before bed. I want to take away every one of your bad memories and replace them with good ones. I can’t promise you when I’ll be here or when I’ll have to go away on a mission, but I can promise you that every second I spend with you, I will never let you forget how much you mean to me.” So the fifth thing I didn’t mention that I can guarantee with this series is that I need the next book in the series, in my hands, ready to read…like right now. I was able to go from A Beautiful Lie to Because of You to Worn Me Down…and now I’m stuck. Because I’m craving another sexy SEAL and…I have to wait. This is a problem. So I will impatiently tap my foot until Closer to the Edge arrives…because I need it desperately. These books are the perfection when it comes to romance blended with action – absolutely gripping and completely heartwarming.

This book was so good. I loved the dynamic of the best friend's sister and the best friend coming together, and of course hating each other at first. Gwen was a real firecracker, and she had already endured so much but you couldn't tell from just speaking to her, and Austin was just the sweetest guy even though he had demons of his own he was a hero through and through, and it was the way he was so sweet to Gwen's daughter, and how he connected to her so easily. But in the end it all worked out and they came together beautifully.

Honest to God. I loved them. Anyway, this isn’t about chocolate or messed up comedic relationships. This is serious Tara. While I’ve read all the books in the Playing with Fire series, I can say without a doubt that Worn Me Down is by far my absolute favorite. Worn Me Down features a slightly screwy cast of characters. We learned a little about Gwen in Because of You, Brady and Layla’s story. I love Gwen – love as in L.O.V.E. She’s sassy, feisty and a little crass. She has a heart of gold and the mouth of a trucker. After experiencing 10 years of hell with her shit-bag soon to be ex-husband, the woman deserves a little break – don’t ya think? Doesn’t seem like she’s gonna get one, though. Brady has gone away on tour with Layla, but before leaving he arranged for a “replacement”. Welcome back Austin! Remember him? He was around briefly in both of the first two books in the series. I like my privacy; I like my quiet. I like being able to walk through my own house bare-ass naked. I like being single and not having any attachments or anyone to answer to. It’s who I am and it’s who I’ve always been. Austin doesn’t do family. No kids. No wife. No nothing. He’s a SEAL. That’s it. When he finds himself “stuck” with Gwen and Emma, he’s not exactly sure what to do. The man is loyal to a fault and he made a promise to his SEAL brother, Brady. He would stick around to ensure Gwen and Emma are safe. This is more than a make-sure-the-business-runs-smoothly kind of assignment. Brady mentioned that Gwen has some “stuff” going on in her life. Can’t be that complicated, right? WRONG. I can’t believe Brady had the nerve to send Austin to keep an eye on me without letting me know. I’m going to kill him. I get where he’s coming from – he’s been on edge since I told him I was filing for divorce, but this really wasn’t the way to go about calming his nerves. If will William hasn’t contacted me by now, I doubt he ever will. Having Austin under foot every day until Brady gets back is just going to make things worse. Remember that Crazy husband? Maybe he’s not as keen on fading quietly into the background as everyone had hoped. Things start to get a little crazy around the office as well as Brady’s apartment. It’s not clear exactly who is behind the behavior, but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck – or a really pissed off abusive ex. During this time two other characters arrive on scene – Ellie, Gwen’s best friend and Dylan Callahan. Remember him from the last book? He was the one playing body guard for Layla before Brady got his shit together and went back to get his girl. He almost kissed Layla… Remember him yet? Well, he’s makes an appearance or two. Ellie. Oh, Ellie. I didn’t like her from the moment Tara described her as she walked into the restaurant to meet Gwen for dinner. Something rubbed me the wrong way about her. She went from being a sweet friend to “mini Gwen”. Something stuck and it wasn’t the food. As the story went on my heart thawed towards her a little; I still felt a little…uncomfortable with her, but I figured it was residual bad juju or something. She just didn’t seem to be the type of person Gwen would choose as her bestie. The more I learned about her, the less I liked her. Austin and Gwen together is a force to be reckoned with. They’re both strong, bullheaded, feisty people. Their banter reminded me a lot of my relationship with my husband. Austin needs a tough woman, and Gwen fits the bill to a T. I loved them each individually and smacking them together as a couple only made them better. What woman wouldn’t melt for a guy who teaches a little girl how to save her Barbie’s from insurgents or how to do proper push-ups to be the perfect soldier? Ha. Priceless. Now if only he could see the family man potential in himself. “I love you, Austin. Can you tuck me into bed every night?” Emma whispered sleepily. Closing my eyes, I don’t say anything in return. I’m afraid if I open my mouth now, I’ll cry like a fucking baby. Love. Love. Love Tara. The woman could write on a shoe box and I’d read it. Sad but true. You won’t be disappointed when it comes to Worn Me Down. I think I highlighted half of the damn book! It’s suspenseful, funny, heartbreaking, and gut twisting. Just when you think you have everything figured out…you don’t. The worst part about the book is that we’re one step closer to the close of an excellent series.

Worn Me Down is the third in the Playing with Fire series and this time we get the story of Gwen and Austin. At the end of Because of You we got a brief glimpse into Worn Me Down and I had been impatiently waiting to read it. Gwen might be might favorite heroine of the Playing with Fire series. At the end of Because of You we got a brief glimpse into Worn Me Down and I had been impatiently waiting to read it. Gwen might be might favorite heroine of the Playing with Fire series. She has been through more than any woman should have to but remained a fighter. As a mom to a 4 year old the relationship between Gwen and Emma had me feeling both warmhearted and brokenhearted depending on what part I was in the book. Gwen is the kind of character that needs to be written about more often. She's fiery, independent, and most importantly a mother who would do anything for their child. Most times when a book features a child they are often regulated to an unimportant part in the book. But in Worn Me Down Gwen and Emma's relationship was front and center and it truly provided for some of the best parts in the book. What can I say about Austin that hasn't been said? On the surface he's the stereotypical Navy Seal who jumps from woman to woman while in between missions. He doesn't seem to take much of anything outside of the military seriously. He's the consummate playboy that can never settle down. I love book that start with the two leads not liking each other. Both Gwen and Austin judged each other at face value and made assumptions. Gwen thought Austin was a military Lothario and Austin thought Gwen was a pampered princess. Their mutual dislike of each other only made their relationship that much sexier. There's a fine line between love and hate and Gwen and Austin were all about straddling that line in the most delicious of ways. Austin and Gwen, both come with demons in their past they would rather forget about. But has Gwen's past caught up to her? Suddenly things she thought were in the are unfolding in front of her and Austin may be the only person who can help. But how long can you run from your past before it finds you? The Playing with Fire series proves Tara Sivec can do suspenseful and smart just as well as she can do funny and touching. Worn Me Down has the perfect mix of sex, thrills, and hot Navy Seals! Tara Sivec writes hands down the sexiest Navy Seals and I'm hoping she has more to come!

I received an ARC from the Author to give a truthful review. I have been waiting for this book since the teaser at the end of Because of You. I loved the tantrum that Gwen threw wanting a pink gun and to have Austin say “Pink and Sparkles” in the same sentence. I knew this was going to be a good one. I am a sucker for a strong woman in a story not a week girl that needs protecting. Gwen can hold her own by all means. She has had a hard life you wouldn’t know it by looking at her and her family. I am a sucker for a strong woman in a story not a week girl that needs protecting. Gwen can hold her own by all means. She has had a hard life you wouldn’t know it by looking at her and her family. Sometimes things aren’t always as they seem on the outside. Her brother enlists the help of Austin to watch after Gwen while he is away. Austin is a player and thinks this is going to be an easy assignment looking after Brady’s little sister. Being the tough gal Gwen is she is having no part of Austin “babysit” her. Gwen is reunited with her best friend, Ellie, who has a secret of her own that floors Gwen. The banter between Gwen and Austin is great and then add little Emma to the mix. I love it when Austin played Navy SEAL with Emma all to keep her from making him “look pretty”. The scene at the airport was a tearjerker for me (and that is all I’m saying about that). Reading the scene where Austin takes Gwen to the shooting range and has her pick a gun. I loved reading her throw her tantrum again over wanting a pink gun. Who would have thought that a strong willed woman and a sweet little girl would have worn down the walls to a tough Navy SEAL or a tough Navy SEAL would have made his way in to a strong willed woman and sweet little girls heart. After all the time Austin spends with Gwen and Emma he has to decide if he wants to be with “his girls” or a SEAL. He doesn’t see a way to have them both. I loved the suspense that Tara has in all these books. This one is no different. You think you know what is going on and who is behind things and then part way through you start to second guess yourself. You have no idea who is behind the crazy things that are going on and then when it becomes apparent who it is and why you think WOW didn’t see that one coming. So once again I will be waiting for the next one to see what kind of a ride Tara will take me on next.

As a Navy SEAL, he spends all of his time in dangerous, life-threatening situations. The only way to leave behind the horrors he’s seen throughout his career, is to turn it all off when he gets home. I ended up really loving this series.....you gotta love smoking hot, military alpha males and take no-nonsense sassy women who knock them off their feet! Austin is a Navy Seal for life. It is the only thing he knows, the only family he knows. He had a horrible childhood, and found himself in the military and it become his family. When one of his fellow Seals calls on him for help, it is without a doubt that he is there, after all they are his brothers. When he goes to help watch over his friend Brady's sister Gwen, Austin soon finds his presence is not wanted, but he can't help but want something with the woman who gives him an attitude even though he never had an desire for a family before Gwen. Gwen is hiding. Hiding from a past that has left her broken. She may look tough and be sassy on the outside, but she has suffered from years of abuse from her ex and she will do anything to make sure that her and her daughter are safe and never have to experience that life again. At first she butts heads with Austin but as strange things start to happen, Austin's presence is making Gwen feel safe and making her want things she hasn't wanted in years. What happens when these two give in to their feelings...can they keep it strictly physical without falling? And what happens when the Navy Seals come calling for Austin....can and will he leave "his girls"? I loved this story! My only complaint is that I wish we would have gotten more of Gwen and Austin in the future. Worn Me Down had it all....suspense, romance, plenty of sexy time, and even made me laugh at points! I'm excited for the next book in this series. *Reviewed by Brandi

Austin in all his alpha male glory tries to fight Gwen's charm and vulnerability. This is easier said then done. Both Gwen and her daughter wage a battle even a Navy SEAL can't win. Love! I thoroughly enjoy Austin and Gwen's story. Sassy, heartwarming, and suspenseful Tara has provided her fans with a solid third book in the Playing With Fires Series. Gwen is an example of what happens when life beats you down (in more ways then one). Reading a strongly written female is always a breathe of fresh air. Never being the victim of physical abuse I was still able to relate to her struggles. Stepping into her shoes I felt her pain and overwhelming need to stand tall and strong for her most precious assist, her daughter. Will Gwen survive or will she be worn down by the past? One click and find out! The Playing With Fire Series may be read as a standalone. 4 stars

Tara's magic came through again! Worn Me Down had everything her Playing With Fire books are known for: Hot Alpha Navy SEAL, a sassy heroine with attitude, and mystery starting on the very first page. I loved Gwen and Austin, who we were introduced to in Because of You. Gwen is Brady's younger sister who showed up on his doorstep after finally escaping her husband's years of physical abuse. Gwen is strong, though because of the abuse doesn't feel it, and has some great snarky comebacks with Austi Tara's magic came through again! My favorite character in the book is Gwen's six year old daughter, Emma! There hasn't been a child character in books I've loved so much since Tara's Seduction & Snacks' Gavin! Emma is smart funny, totally girls who loves everything pink, and Barbies! Some of my favorite scenes in the book are when Emma gets uber alpha Austin to play Barbies with her.

I love this book. LOVE IT!! I've never hidden the fact that I'm a huge fan of romantic suspense and Tara Sivec nails it with this book…hell this whole series. The twists and turns of this book will take you on a roller coaster ride of crazy. Austin is so protective, something about a big old man being sweet with a little girl and her Barbie collection just does things to my dusty old ovaries. And then he goes and gives said sweet little girl's mama the business in the shower…like a boss!! Very n I love this book. LOVE IT!! Her spine is made of steel. She is a beautiful character and you can't help but fall in love with her. She's so strong and stubborn. The books of this series can be read as stand alones but don't do that…start at the beginning if this is new to you…you don't want to miss a thing!

This book was pretty good. It was your standard "woman in trouble, needs a hero" type of book. Which, is definitely my cup of tea. I have not read these in order and was able to follow along quite easily without feeling like I was missing anything. Gwen was a great heroine. Not too needy and definitely knows how to make a man grovel. Austin was a great Alpha hero. I loved seeing his soft side with Gwen's daughter. They definitely had LOL moments from me when they were playing together. I recommend t This book was pretty good. It was your standard "woman in trouble, needs a hero" type of book.
