"Petra was part of our lands. But the government kicked us out and gave us square houses. My mother liked the change; the houses had running water and electricity. There was no more carrying buckets of water or lighting fires. Progress had come to our family. But you know? I look at the past and I compare it to the present and I feel that we ended up losing. Now we no longer walk through the desert with our camels and goats, we no longer seek fresh pastures and springs. Now we just sell postcards to tourists." Loved this book. This story is incredible and amazing.
