When she learned that slavery was not to be her lot, but a brilliant political alliance, she vowed to await her bridegroom with her snarling leopard at her side and silken seduction at her fingertips. So, most of the reviewers of this book didn't really like it. I guess you have to like ancient history and war battles and damsels in distress...wait Roxanne is a kick butt warrior princess! No, it is not a typical historical romance. It is a romance included in the history! I actually checked the history of Alexander the Great and the author follows a time period in his life from where he meets Roxanne( he actually married a Roxana!)conquers her home,he marries her and she goes with him on his quest to conquer the world. Thus the title, I was only thinking conquer her home, I didn't even realize that it was Alexander the Great! The dark hair on the cover annoyed me..everybody who knows history knows Alexander is blond and curly! The author explained that for me later, don't know if the cover photo and later events in the story were intentional, but it helped! It was interesting while reading this I was fascinated with how closely true to history the author follows, the characters were real people. The war details, the warrior elephants and river crossings , the refusal of his army to continue the fighting. Alexander's emotional problems and drinking issues. Tender and fierce lover and ruthless commander! But the best thing about this story is that it was history told from the point of view of Alexander and his associates, friends , family, and Roxanne. It is really more Raxanne's story, about how she follows Alexander all over and how her life is affected. Loved her character! like I said, kick butt warrier, she knows how to use a knife and sword! I felt like I was there, and I was sad at the end because I knew that Alexander dies. There are twists and turns, murder plots, sweet love and things that may or may not have happened. The author portrayed a love between Alexander and Roxanne that endures through battles, separation, jealousy, LONG army marches and even death. This is a series! two more, which should be interesting how the author pulls that off! I am looking forward to reading them!

Be not fooled. This is a history book. If you are looking for romance, THIS AIN'T IT! More soldiers fighting than you would ever want to read about in any book. Whatever romance exist is tucked tightly inside of "do as I say woman and I don't have time for a woman's foolishness because I'm conquering the world and dragging you along". She spends her time being wild and reckless or being hurt over his shenanigans and submissively tolerating his moodiness. The entire book exudes her position as hi Be not fooled.

I didn't care for the battle scenes and skimmed through most of them, but I liked the development of the relationship between Alexander and Roxanne. I thought their characters were well fleshed out. I liked the style of writing and rich descriptions as well, much better than many others of the same genre that I have read. I can't vouch for the accuracy of all the details but this is the first book I have read about Alexander the Great and it definitely pique my interest to find out more about hi I didn't care for the battle scenes and skimmed through most of them, but I liked the development of the relationship between Alexander and Roxanne. I received this paperback as a birthday gift. Here's what I liked: The tension between Alexander and Roxanne. Every great romance must have tension. The fantasy and grandness; I felt swept away. The time period. There are so few books set in the 4th Century. The vibrant descriptions. The adventure. The ending. I love it when a book touches me deeply enough that I cry. What I didn't like: Nothing. In fact, I've already purchased The Barbarian. Recommended read! I received this paperback as a birthday gift. I really wasn't into this book at all. It dragged on too slowly for my taste and I really couldn't connect with the characters. I was left disappointed. I really wasn't into this book at all.
