Great history and love story I truly enjoyed the story of Zane, Emilie and Andrew. All three were wonderful rich characters. The time travel was wonderfully told. Inasmuch as the only time I have to read is before going to sleep, I found myself watching the clock, eagerly awaiting bedtime in order to get back to this splendid book. Kudos to Ms. Bretton, an excellent writer. Phyllis Eisenstadt

There could be a continuation to this book with a character from the past that goes to the present... Found this book a little boring, but it kept me interested enough to at least finish it. The two main characters, Emily and Zane Grey (yes, from the western author) had been divorced 5 years when Zane's grandmother dies and leaves him the family estate, which he promptly sells. Zane is bitter and not interested in history or his heritage. He takes an old uniform to Emily to "evaluate" though. Zane is bitter and not interested in history or his heritage. He takes an old uniform to Emily to "evaluate" though. Emily has become a well-known historical authenticator. She loves history. Of course, the couple was still very attracted to each other. They just couldn't get a long. Constantly argued. Did enjoy some of Emily's one-liners, though. One time when Zane answered her question by grunting, she said, "Grunt once for yes, and twice for no." One thing led to another and they ended up back in time to their history via a hot air balloon. The book really dragged here when all the convincing each other, then others, that they had indeed gone back in time. More arguing. Rated PG

4 Stars. This story had love, time-travel and historical content. The beginning was enjoyable, then the story slowed a little, largely due to the 'telling' of parts of history. However, the story picked up again and continued to be exciting and interesting. I was somewhat disappointed with the ending but as the novel is part of a series, I wouldn't hesitate to read more from this author.

This was a wonderful story. The first book I've read in a while that left me in tears and saying, "Wow. Just Wow." Love the H and h, the story had so many threads that the author skillfully connected at the end, and I loved the history. I didn't know much about the Revolutionary War period, so the details kept my attention - and she skillfully wove them into the plot. Normally I don't enjoy time travel books, but this one was realistically done (lol for a concept that is impossible). Will defini This was a wonderful story. Worth the trip I thoroughly enjoyed 'Somewhere In Time: The Crosse Harbor Time Travel Trilogy Book 1. This is a fast paced book that I was able to finish in one sitting. I'm looking forward to reading book 2 starting tomorrow.

Great book about time travel into the American Revolution and a romance at the same time. This is a trilogy and I'm looking forward to reading the next two.

I read this book as a recommendation on a readers group forum. I was looking for a book I read in about 1998 or 1999 about a time travel romance. In the book I read, the woman fell through a wall or closet in the house & ended in colonial times where she falls in love and has to decide between two worlds. This wasn’t that book. This is a very quick and light read and I enjoyed it but I didn’t love it. First of all, I enjoy historicals for the history and much of that was fictional in this book. Secondly, I didn’t really like either hero. They both left much to be desired in my opinion. Third, the ending was unbelievable; and not in a wow way but in a yea whatever way. I don’t want to give anything up but this gets three stars because I did enjoy it but there wasn’t enough here to make it memorable for me.

Entertaining This is the first time I read Barbara Bretton and I definitely enjoyed it. She has blended romance and time travel with a touch of historical fiction to create an entertaining story. I just couldn't stop reading because I was eager to find out how it will end. I guarantee you'll find the same pleasure from reading this book..

Time Travel This stories premise was interesting, but I found the characters to be a little flat. Adding in more historical facts within the fictional events would have led me to believe in the story more. Over all it’s well written.

This book was awful, full stop. I regret reading it so much. The worst part is that my wife read it out loud to me over a roadtrip, so Kat had to suffer through the inane protagonists with me. I'm sorry, my love.

I hate it when authors make characters do things that do not make sense just to move the plot in the way they want. The ending is a perfect example of this! I had to stop reading for a while I was so mad/annoyed!

This story did not engage me the way the authors other books have. I felt the story dragged a bit in places and I didn't find the main characters to be that sympathetic. It was an interesting take on time travel and I will continue with the series as sometimes I find that the first book in a series can be a bit slow and then the series gets better after that. I am hoping that is the case with this series.

I enjoyed this book up to a point. Don't like loose ends and cliffhangers....So if you want a light, fun read this is entertaining enough, but be prepared for not getting some answers and hoping they are in the second book if you choose to go on.

This is the first book I've read from Barbara Bretton. I like to try new authors, however I'm glad I got this one for free. Historian Emilie Crosse specializes in the Revolutionary War era, and she is shocked when her ex-husband, Zane, shows up on her doorstep with a Revolutionary War uniform for appraisal. It is a family heirloom, but he doesn't care about his ancestors after losing his last living relative, his grandmother. He thinks getting rid of the uniform will allow him to move on with his life and start fresh. He had no idea the consequences of seeing his ex-wife again. They both still have feelings for each other. It just takes time travelling back to 1776 in a hot air balloon for them to see that what they've been searching for has been in front of them all along. Let's start with the good. This was a fun, easy read. I liked the historical details, but wished there had been a lot more of them. I liked all the secondary characters. I thought they were well developed from Andrew to Rebekah and her children.I liked the hero, Zane, and the heroine, Emille. They were developed just enough that I could form a connection with them. However, the story would have been a lot better if they had been developed more. Unfortunately, there were many things that didn't work with this story. The plot was very predictable, and the spy element didn't provide much action or tension. I also found several continuity errors. For instance, after the hot air balloon crash lands, Zane has a bleeding head injury. Then when Andrew arrives to offer help the injury is gone. Emilie and Zane say many 20th century things and no one really catches them except for Andrew. It got annoying. I was waiting for the fact that the couple didn't quite fit in to cause more problems than it did. The author could have really ramped up the tension. Perhaps she was aiming for a romantic comedy instead? Also, the sex scenes were too cheesy. Lots of purple prose. I never really felt the passion and lust that was supposedly burning between Zane and Emilie. I have to admit the ending surprised me. You can read other reviews if you curious as to how the book ends. I won't give it away here. Zane was a spoiled rich man used to every convenience. He needed to grow up in many ways. I wanted him to learn his lesson, and in the end I'm not sure he fully did. Emilie learned her lesson though. No one is perfect, and you can't get a man to change you have to love him for who he is.

When Zane visits his ex-wife Emilie passions of the past get the upper hand and end in a sexual tryst. The next morning reality takes over and they realize that the situation hasn’t changed and a future together is still hopeless. In a desperate attempt of reconciliation, Zane highjack’s a hot air balloon to plead his case. A sudden storm arises and they are literally blown through the fabric of time and land by a New Jersey lighthouse in the year 1776. There have been many time travel stories in the last decade and many aspects of this interesting phenomenon have been explored and discussed. This story raises the question of dialect and the metamorphosis of a constantly changing language. This is an aspect of time-travel I have never previously encountered and adds to an interesting story. The tale takes wings and is over before the reader is ready to land. Luckily for the reader this is just the first part of a series entitled The Harbor Crosse Time Travel Trilogy. I think many people will enjoy this book and I will certainly read its sequels.

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. I think, if Goodreads allow a pointt five on the rating scale, this will get a 3.5 stars, perhaps. I think, i would enjoy it more, if the plot will build from the dress, rather than how it got written. Oh well, after it is the first installment of a trilogy, perhaps things will be clearer on the second and third installment of the series. Still, it is a good lite read. A book that can be easily finish in an evening, for example.
