Complicating matters is Nate Wolfe's return to Dallas. He's now a private investigator and he and Kay have a history. You guessed it...it didn't end well the first time. What worked about this story The action starts at the story's opening and never seems to stop. It's pretty fast paced (only a couple of lulls here and there) and the crime is pretty nasty (human trafficking). The romance is at times prickly and at others steamy. Nate has to work really hard to regain Kay's trust and friendship, which kept things spicy and off balance. The characters were interesting and the suspense level was exceptional, especially the climax. There was a surprising twist at the end (well, I figured it out but...) that will make a compelling future story. I liked both Kay and Nate, as well as how their relationship developed. Their personal histories also added a lot of flavor. The bottom line This is a great start of the series and I'm ready to continue. The story was exciting with a good balance of suspense and romance. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride and didn't find the action predictable. The climax was pretty tough with a "can't put the book down" ending. I like the writing style and will be reading more by this author. (I received an ARC from the author)

Loved it! This was fast paced and the writing was really good. Kay is a social worker and one of children (teenager)that she works with has been murdered. The killer thinks that something was passed to her and they want it back. With two kidnap attempts and people following her she needs around the clock protection. Enter sexy ex boyfriend Nate Wolfe and his friends Tyrell and Marcus, known as the Wolfe pack. Oh man first I cant express how much I loved these guys. They were alpha and bad ass. T Loved it! They were so fiercely protective of Kay who is also their friend. I loved it when Tyrell calls Kay "Little mama". Kay at times did get on my nerves. She was tough and could hold her own but she at times acted like a know it all. This is one of those books where the H/h have a history. Nate and Kay have broken up ten years ago and they still love each other but one is bitter and angry and the other is resigned that she hates him.Lots of assumptions and misunderstandings. There was some serious sexual tension going on. And when they finally gave in it was so Hot! This is about human trafficking and the bad guys are horrible. Its written tastefully and you know what went down without the stomach turning details. The bad guys are very obvious and there wasn't any real surprise as to what and why they were doing what they were doing. Even the mysterious Jonathan wasn't a surprise. Although I wanted to hate him for his participation with the kidnappings and selling girls in the end I couldn't. I cant wait to read the next book.

There are certain qualities you come to expect out of one of Ms. Alexander’s books and she did not disappoint in Hell or Highwater. She has you turning the page, guessing at every turn, the buildup between the characters until your heart is pounding along with theirs; I finished this book in one sitting, missing dinner, my kids going to bed and even well into the next morning. I had to get to the end because I knew if I didn’t I wasn’t going to sleep at all. I am so glad I did, things I didn’t see coming took my breath away, had me by my heartstrings even in the unusual circumstances and I absolutely love books that do that to me. Jerrie Alexander brings back that of college sweethearts Nate Wolfe and Kay ( Kaycie) under rather unpleasant circumstances. Old wounds are open after ten years for Kay and all Nate wants is forgiveness. After Nate left her she’s moved on with her life or so she thought. Nate never stopped thinking of Kaycie yet at 22 he wasn’t ready for the things she wanted. Now they are thrust together, she without much choice and him on a mission. Nate an ex-SEAL and owner of a PI firm along with the help of their old college friends, Tyrell and Marcus the “Wolfe’s Pack” as Kay once called them come together to keep her safe. Yet still Kay can’t get over the feeling that Nate’s need for adventure will do nothing but break her heart again. In the meantime the chemistry and tension between Kay and Nate only build. Ms. Alexander’s gift for building the sexual tension between two main characters; a slow burn that when it’s released it’s not rushed or forced it is a perfectly timed explosion that will have you feeling the heat along with the turn of the page. Hell or High Water set the stage perfectly for the Lost and Found, Inc. series. Each man has a story to tell, demons to unfurl and Ms. Alexander always gives a strong women that can help them fight together. The next book Cold Day In Hell is due to release soon and I can’t wait!!

Intense Thrill Ride! All I can say is buckle your seat belt for an intense ride! The action begins with the first line of this book when Kay fights to remain conscious. 2.5/5; 3 stars; C+ This was a new to me author. I would have liked the book a lot more if the characters were better developed. In particular, the main character, Kay, blew hot and cold to the point of being neurotic. It was the kind of things I don't like, especially when a character is around thirty years old and is supposedly psychologically stable enough to work in law enforcement or child protective services.

Hell or High Water was an amazing story. I absolutely loved the characters and fell in love with Kay from the very beginning when she rescued herself. This is not a damsel in distress but instead a heroine that is going to have a hand in helping with her own protection and what has gone wrong. I loved that about Kay. We see this throughout the story but I also loved how she is not too stubborn about it and is able to lean on other people for help and listen to them. We see this throughout the story but I also loved how she is not too stubborn about it and is able to lean on other people for help and listen to them. Nate, the hero, is her love from the past that broke her heart when he went into the military after college. The problem is that she still loves him though she is in denial about it and Nate really has no idea how she feels. Nate is also still in love with her and isn't as far into denial as Kay is but still in some denial. When things go wrong and Nate is called in to protect Kay she tries to keep her distance from him but that only works so long, especially when he doesn't want any distance between them. The characters are written really well. All of them. There are no flat characters in this novel which I really appreciated. This story was very smooth and fairly fast paced but it was not rushed. There are a lot of twists and turns in this story that will keep the reader interested and on their toes. There are twists that I doubt readers will expect. You might get a few but not all of them lol. I loved the relationship that Nate and Kay built again too. They realized that they were different people from college and so that they would have to get to know each other again, find out the differences and changes and adjust. There is a good mixture between romance and action in this story. It was blended very well. Sometimes I wanted to smack Nate and Kay so that they would talk to each other but it was understandable. I really enjoyed the fact that though Nate wanted to protect Kay and keep her out of all of it he respected her and her abilities and still let her participate and listened to her ideas. There is some sex in this novel and it is fairly explicit but there is not very much of it, the situation doesn't exactly allow for it. I greatly enjoyed this story and I can't wait for more from this series. I did receive this book from the author in return for an honest review. I absolutely loved this story and definitely recommend it. It is worth it and will be very enjoyable.

Received this book for an honest review. Exciting, adrenaline rush, anger, lust, power and intrigue are only a few of the emotions you will encounter reading this book. I don't want to give too much of the story away..... Kaycie has been kidnapped and is struggling to free herself. She is a CPS worker and has been on the case of a human trafficking ring. The captors feel the young girl gave something of importance to Kay that will identify them as the traffickers. They can't let that happen. Kay's determination and grit help her to escape one terrible ordeal only to be dragged into one horrible nightmare after another. One HUGE nightmare, Nate. He broke her heart ten years ago when he left her behind to join the Navy SEALS. Kay has not felt for any man the way she felt for Nate and vows to never let anyone get close enough to her to hurt her. When their college friend Ty asks for Nate's help to protect Kay, the situation gets complicated. Nate doesn't know how Kacie will react to seeing Nate after all these years. Ten years is a long time to hold a grudge against someone. Nate is fighting his own demons. Not only the wars that he has fought in but the fact he has been back in town for six months and hasn't let her know. She is the love of his life and no one has held his heart but his Kaycie. His need and desire to protect her is overwhelming. When Nate, Ty, Kay, and her best friend, Holly feel like they need more help they call in Marcus. Marcus, Ty, Nate and Jake were given the nickname Wolfe Pack by Kaycie while they were in college. Best friends. All highly trained special agents from different branches of the military combine they are a force to be reckoned. Will Nate be able to protect Kaycie ? Will they be able to put the past behind them and get back the love they share for another ? Loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat all night long. Characters are hot and each one is well defined with distinguishing characteristics. Thank you for allowing me to read this book. I look forward to the next book in this series.

This storyline is absolutely wonderful and the writing superb. Jerrie was able to keep up the suspense while telling Kay and Nate's love story. I look forward to the stories of the rest of the Wolfe pack and although I can't wait to start reading Tyrell's I am hoping and praying for Jake's to be written soon (hint, hint Jerrie)

I couldn't put this book down! I love the characters Alexander creates, especially the kick-butt women. Human trafficking is not a social issue that's easily dealt with in contemporary fiction, but Alexander's message of no mercy resonates to the last chapter.

I love the feeling of never knowing what I'm going to get when I try a 'new to me' author or a new series. In this case, it was both a new author and book and it delivered the goods. The book didn't stop from start to finish whether it was the time-is-running-out style case everyone was working on or the crackling with tension romance. Kay finds herself kidnapped and in the middle of something really big after her job as CPS worker had her the last to see the lone witness to a human trafficking ring alive. She gets away. Now they're after her and its only with the help of the man who loved her and left her along with their other old friends that she can be protected from the danger long enough to solve the case. Ex-Navy SEAL Nate Wolfe had a rough war that he barely came back from mentally and he's been home trying to heal from it all while contracting for jobs with the government and starting up a detective agency. All the while, he has kept his eye on Kaysie from a distance. He knows she has reason to hate his guts, but that doesn't matter now that her life is in danger. He'll do anything to keep her safe and as he spends time close to her he realizes that walking away afterwards will be tougher than he thought. He'd done it once in the past, but now it might be impossible even if that is what Kaysie wants him to do. As I mentioned before, the plot and pace on this one were nearly perfect. The heightened sense of danger and mystery behind the bad guys and my own personal disgust for their crimes had me engaged from the get go. At times, the suspense part of the plot kept me more enthralled than the romance and that's saying something because usually romance is the big draw for me. The one downer with the plot was just a personal thing for me. Since Nate was a SEAL, I wanted to see more of that training in play. Yeah, he and the guys did some typical PI and techie spy stuff, but he wasn't really let loose in any fight scenes. Not that his personality and expertise didn't come off the pages making me believe he was who he was described to be; I just wanted to see it. Now not to say the romance was meh or wrong- it wasn't. It was abso-fab. I loved the sparks and chemistry between Kaysie and Nate. Their antagonism, attraction, beginnings of trust and then full on passion were a huge draw for me. I do have to say that while I adored their snark and sparks at the beginning; I was a bit let down to find out what was behind Kaysie's anger. To hold anger of that degree of heat together, I was expecting something much worse. I guess it just meant that she never got over him or her anger might have cooled to nothing. As for Nate, he cracked me up and he wasn't trying for humor. His whole 'I'll just keep my girl safe, growl at possible rivals, but I'm going on my merry way afterwards' attitude amused the heck out of me. Bottom line though, they were great together and I didn't get frustrated with them because the way the relationship was handled deftly. They might have had a past, but they had been separated for a decade and both grew into new and better so they had to get to know each other all over again and learn to trust again too. So, this was a stupendous start to a new series that I will be eager to continue on with. Those who love romantic suspense and romantic thrillers should really give this one a try.

To sum up my opinion of this book in one word would be "choppy". The story, the dialogue, the relationship build, all chunks of what the story should have been. There was no flow. The last quarter of the story, and the bigger climax of the story was probably what kept it at two stars for me. This is basically a Hallmark presentation of human trafficking. Very vanilla and no coercion ever mentioned or described, just assumed with no details. There was a good deal of set up for the rest of the series, but even that was seriously fragmented. Page count was really odd, showing the kindle version at 260 on the GR home page, but my reader showed over 700 pages. I've seen that before, but never that dramatic of a difference. For me there was absolutely no chemistry between the love interests or even character to characters. I finished it, but was relieved to be done with it. No rec from me.

Overall, good book. About half way through I wondered how I could still have half a novel to go as it felt like it was beginning to wrap itself up. Then the twists and turns began. I really liked the story line, Former SEAL Nate Wolfe returns to help try and save his former girlfriend. Sparks fly between them and the 'will they, won't they' begins. Not only was this a romance novel but it became a bit of a crime/thriller novel as lives must be saved through Nate and his friend's investigations. Overall, good book. His love interest Kay is thankfully intelligent and strong and I do love a heroine who you can respect. Another exciting read from Jerrie Alexander. Like all her other romantic suspense novels, I enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting, however it wasn't my favorite. The plot was suspenseful, but nothing quite like her prior stories. Human trafficking and rape is never easy to read about, but the author handled it well without going into graphic detail. There was a fair amount of action and crafty plot twists in this story which got the wheels in my head turning. I loved that the author kept me guessing and trying to put puzzle pieces together. The dynamic of "Wolfe's Pack" provided the humor but also the backbone of the story. They each had just enough face time that I came to care about them and long to read their stories. As for Nate, he was on the quiet side and absorbed the verbal snark that Kay threw his way. It was obvious that she hadn't quite forgiven or forgotten. The sexual tension between them was quite amusing. I think I breathed a sigh of relief along with them when they decided to put each other out of their misery. At first, I rejoiced when Kay displayed tenacity, courage and she did a good job of taking care of herself in dangerous situations, especially in two particular scenes. However, my admiration began to wane little by little after her best friend, Holly, was kidnapped. For an ex cop she was kind of a basket case instead being able to remain calm under pressure. As for her conflicting emotions about Nate, she stayed mad at him for way too long. I have an aversion towards heroines who swear off men and relationships because their first and only love broke up with them. Nate wanted to serve his country and follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, and I thought her total lack of understanding was selfish on her part. And lastly, her lack of communication skills with Nate at the end dragged on a bit too long for my taste. Luckily a lot of the other characters made up for the slack, and her despicable villains always take things up a notch. The story picked up steam again towards the end with some surprises and the heroine fighting for her life. The fellas definitely stole the show in this book, and I can't wait for the next book which I think will be Tyrell's story. A good start to a new series. “I will go crazy if I don’t do this.” He lowered his lips to hers, bracing himself for the worst. Expecting her to shove him away. Expecting her to remind him he was in her employ. Expecting her to stand rigid as a post. His spirit soared when soft, lush lips opened slightly. Welcomed him. He angled his mouth for better coverage and swept his tongue inside heaven. He angled his mouth for better coverage and swept his tongue inside heaven. This was supposed to be just a quick kiss, a taste of her sweetness. A honey-forgive-me touch of the tongues. Desire exploded, rocketing through every inch of his body. Nate turned ravenous . His hands roamed and smoothed, needing to experience every inch of her body. The gentle slope of her back, the slant of her waist as it nipped in at the hip. Not one inch of her had escaped his memory. She moaned, sending shock waves of need through him. She swayed in his arms, slid her hands around his neck, and pulled him closer until her breasts pressed against his chest. Somewhere deep within the darkness of his soul a light shone. I'll go ahead and admit, this was a total guilty pleasure read. This story line could have been ripped from Days of Our Lives, no kidding. But for a girl like me that was raised with Bo and Hope and has a "damsel in distress" and "amnesia/back from the dead" GR shelf, this book worked. Kay turns into a damsel in distress after a human trafficking ring believing she is a threat to their operation sets out to harm her. Nate, Kay's old college boyfriend and ex-Navy seal comes to the rescue and insists on protecting her, along with a few of their hunky mutal friends (all ex-military, of course). Sparks fly when these two get reacquainted but past hurts are hard to set aside and make looking at any kind of future together difficult, regardless of chemistry. The book was well written, had a nice steam factor, and flowed well. An over the top amnesia story line involving a secondary character was an added surprise and bonus! While I probably wouldn't have paid to read this one, I did enjoy reading it and would probably read the next book in the series now that I've gotten started. I actually am(guiltily)looking forward to seeing if Johnny/Jake gets his own book with Holly and if he does, I'm in! 3.25 STARS JUST FOR THE DRAMA

Another captivating read from Ms Alexander. From the opening scene of the heroine being held captive by sex traffickers you're taken on a roller coaster ride of suspense, two lovers reunited, and plenty of shocking discoveries. Kate and Nate Wolfe were an item the whole time through college and she thought they'd be together forever but Nate chose to be a Navy Seal and she hasnt seen him or forgiven him for leaving her ten years ago. Kate kept in touch with on of the pack, Tyrell Castillo, and he pulls in Nate, who's starting up his own business, to help protect Kate. Kate is a investigator with the Dallas Child Protective Services. When she's assigned a 17 year old girls case who had been kidnapped and raped but managed to escape ciaos ensues. When the girl is killed in the hospital at the same time Kate was abducted she knows its all related and Tyrell knows her life is probably still in danger. Nate's first encounter with Kate after 10 years is saving her from being abducted again. Even though she's grateful she is at war with hating him and realizing her heart still belongs to him. From here the investigation takes them all over the place trying to find out who traffickers. There's plenty of suspense and one big surprise to keep you on the edge of your seat. It was also fun to watch Nate and Kate try and avoiding giving in to there sexual pull and not succeeding - plenty of hot between the sheets for these two. This was a great start to the series and the teaser chapter we got at the end of Tyrell's book looks to be just as exciting.

I "discovered" this author by commenting on a Blog Contest (KarenDocter.com) and winning a short story - Someone To Watch Over Me - and was also lucky enough to be provided this latest book as well! I am happy to say that I can easily recommend you read Jerrie Alexander's work. This full length Contemporary Romantic Suspense novel really caught my attention and kept me reading until far too late. Ms. Alexander introduces us to a cast of characters that includes not one but a full complement of strong, independent, interesting, engaging and multi-dimensional, likeable heroes and heroines. I sense a series, and will be looking forward to full books focused on the secondary characters. The pacing was a bit uneven, but I think that was because there were so many characters that each needed their moment. The premise of sexual assault, kidnap, and human-trafficking was harsh and difficult to confront, but done with care and humanity. Ms. Alexander has a talent for balancing the suspense and romance, building romantic chemistry and tension and unleashing the passion when it's appropriate to the story. The dialogue was witty, the humor pervasive, and the happily ever after? Really satisfying! I look forward to this series. Well Done. *I received my copy from the author and an honest review was requested but not required.

4.5 stars I really enjoyed this book, the first half was good, but a little lacking. The second half was awesome, I was unable to put it down. There was a small hint at mystery, which usually I am unable to predict but unfortunetly my prediction was correct on both counts... not sure if my reading skills are getting fine tuned or just the hints were not sutle. I really enjoyed the relationship and chemistry Kay and Nate, I am really interested in know if Holly gets a book and if Jake is it. The plot's a little thin and the characters are one dimensional. Johnny was the only one with any kind of internal conflict. I would have liked to have Johnny as the male protagonist and have him be the hero - it would have made for a more interesting take on this story. Since this is the author's first book, and since this came as a recommendation, I'm willing to give it a chance read another book or two in this series.

Kay had her great broken in college by Nate when he left her to go into the military. 10 years later she's in trouble and Nate is gonna be there to help her, weather she likes it or not. Can they get through the pasts to figure out their current troubles? Fun read with a bit of mystery, suspense, and a take charge woman. Excited to read the next in the series.
