After being given to a mysterious old librarian, Warrington finds himself employed catching mice in the Library of Universal Fiction until extraordinary events force him on a mystical journey. This had an unbelievable amount of potential... all of which was pretty much ground into the dirt. The characters were all indistinct and bland - even the main character (which is really hard to do). Speaking of the story, the plot was even worse than the characters; the pacing was horrible (the boring parts were drawn out, while the more fascinating parts were quickly skimmed over), the actual adventure (which was marvelous, once I finally got there) seemed to be crammed into the last few chapters, and it just seemed, overall, dry. I had such a hard time concentrating on this story, it was ridiculous! Still, it did a good job of imitating the original Wonderland's confusion (I did enjoy that) and disorder once the characters finally started journeying around their worlds. I also highly enjoyed the ending twists and conflict - I may eventually reread the book just for that. Overall, I was deeply disappointed by Grin. {sighs heavily}

Alice in Wonderland being one of my favorite children's books and the Chessire Cat being one of my favorite characters, you could only imagine how excited I was to stumble upon this book! It did not disappoint. I absolutely adored the story behind the cat. How he came to be what he was and loved the way it tied into the events that took place in Alice in Wonderland! The way it introduced all the characters and brought them together was just amazing. Good story; lackluster writing. Meh.

It was a very imaginative story overall, but the end is more about Alice in Wonderland than about the Chesire Cat.
