No matter how hard he works at his job at UPS, it is never enough to take care of himself and his long-term girlfriend. After continuous pressure from his older cousin, Ching, Omari finally traded in busting his ass for working under Ching hustling three major blocks on the Westside. All is good as Omari juggles work and the drug game. That is, until Ching involves him in the murder of, who ends up being, the Governor’s nephew. As he dodges homicide detectives, Omari is also trying to dodge getting caught between two loves. He’s been committed to Aeysha for seven years, but is falling each day for Simone, an older more established woman who is at his every beck and call. After years of playing the side chick, Simone finally finds love that she thinks is all her own. Just as she settles into loving Omari, she finds out about Aeysha and her desperate mind begins to plot on how to finally win her man. Simone’s best friend, Tammy, thinks Simone is crazy as she herself is running from an obsessed ex-boyfriend who is persistent in trying to kill her. Tammy lives in hiding for months as she asks herself this burning question; how can a man love a woman with the same hands that he is willing to kill her with? As the murder investigation leads to arrests, the walls come down on these lovers. Murder, sex, and indictments lead to unforeseen tragedy and unexpected love.

If you don't mind terrible grammar; extremely unrealistic scenarios on every page; and characters who are illogical, one dimensional, and cruel for no real reason, this is the book for you :) Not my cup of tea. Omari and Aeysha have been dating for years. Omari has an illegal job and has also been straddling the line of faithfulness. He’s been playing around with Simone, but it’s obvious his loyalty is with Aeysha. This makes Simone unhappy and she makes moves to make herself his number one. This book was recommended to me. Although I didn’t enjoy the book, I am always happy to receive recommendations. Soooooo, this book: The number 1 complaint is the writing. I don’t expect perfection, but come on. This book was riddled with errors on almost every page. It takes away from the reader fully immersing themselves into the story The book had a fatal attraction feel to it. Some of the story felt absurd to me, but I don’t typically enjoy love triangles anyway and this reminded me why. Underneath all the errors and outlandish actions, I think there was a good idea there, but it kept getting bigger and bigger. Each action outdoing the one before and it became ridiculous to me. This is not the type of story that I enjoy, but I wanted to give it try because it was sweetly recommended to me. However, I think the author really needs to take some time to edit her book.

It's been a long time, since I've read a book like this. This book contained everything I loved to read about in a good book (drama, action, murder, suspense, sex....) I am certain that the sequel will be top-notched as well. The characters although twisted were realistic. Simone made me want to jump onto the pages of the book and shake her. Always the underdog, she was so exploited and desperate. I loved Omari from the beginning, but like any man he had great flaws, which made me want to cut it off! Literally!! Poor Aeysha she was so depressed, and had lost hope that she would ever both worthy. Just when she thought she had everything lined up, the walls came crashing down around her. Tammy was so beautiful, but when it came to the men in her life, she just couldn't get it right. I don't know who was more certifiable in this book Simone or Jimmy. Scratch that Simone had Jimmy beat by a long shot. I never trusted Ching and he really, really showed his behind just like I thought he would. This book was a 10 star read, and could easily be turned in a bestselling film. This was a group read in one of my book clubs, but it turned out to be so good, that I plan on reading the rest of Jessica Watkins work. Splendid job and Spectacular story!!!

The book was actually good. I been had this book and finally gotten around to reading it. One thing for sure. That Simone girl was annoying asf. She worse then the girl from Murderville. Like damn man. Psychopath. And Omari can't see how she is either. He's just running up in her with no care in the world. But what's funny is even though his girl got killed (Simone doing) he still don't want her Ass. I cannot wait until I start on part 2 and cop 3 and 4. **3.5 stars** The plot held my interest from the first page. I would have given 4 stars for better editing: Too many misspelled words, one of the character's last name changed throughout the book--Ayesha's last name went from Walker to Richardson (and no, she didn't get married!), and grammatical errors. **3.5 stars** The plot held my interest from the first page. Wow! I am angry with Simone. Crazy turn of events for this story with a very shocking ending! Too many typos. It could have received a good editing but the storylines were great! Could have been a four star book but the typos were a but much.

Spoilers.. Just... A few. I didn't know this book was actually this good. But I can say lordy, this book had me mad, sad, angry, grumpy, laughing all in one take. I was shaking my head most of the time. Always saying REALLY? What gets me is Omari own cousin Ching thinking he snitch on him just because hes not about the drug life. Someone probably snitch on him some one in his own camp or someone probably seen him picked the boy up. I wonder if he will get someone to do something to Omari. I alre Spoilers.. Just... A few. The kid that she pay off needs to tell what happens cause he loved her so much he did anything for that crazy hoe smh messed his young life up for a psychopath like dang boy tf.. Sooooo, in my opinion, this is one of those books that if you've read it, you don't tell anyone you've read it. This is not normally a book I would read. It got such good reviews and seemed like it could be an easy read to pass the time. The book is super stereotypical when it comes to urban or street culture, and there is not one strong female character in the whole book. It is also a little smutty...a lot smutty. One of the main characters, Simone, is so crazy and trifling that it becomes interesting. That's the thing about this book, it's like watching Jerry Springer, you know it's trash tv, but something about it will occasionally make you watch an episode or two. You won't tune in every day to watch Jerry Springer, but once in a while you just get caught up in the train wreck and can't look away...that's this book. I can see myself reading the next book in this series if I was between books and looking for a mindless read.

I enjoyed this book, I liked the story line and the plot. The characters needed more personality development and the dialogue between characters was too simplistic. I expected the book to complete to story line of each character but that was not the case. Overall it was still an enjoyable and quick read.

Pure soap opera as we follow several characters in Chicago and their messed-up, interconnecting lives. Aeysha is a woman in a bad place in her life. He seems to think he's God's gift to women. The problem is all the other women in this book go along with his assumption. Simone projects to the world that she is a pretty put-together woman with a nice house, a nice job, and nice money. What we the reader see is Simone checking her brain at the door as she channels her inner Glenn Close/Fatal Attraction goddess. The reason I give this book extra points is for the twist at the end that completes Simone's evolution from Crazy Bitch to Super Villain. Tammy is the least important person in the story. Tammy is filler.

The series is so good. I was in the mood for something rough around all the edges. This fit the bill perfect. Simone is tired of being the side woman to every man she has ever had feelings for. She is tired of being left for other women. When she meets Amare she tells herself this will be the last time she is left and the last time she will carry the title 'Side Piece'. There hasn't been a dull moment. Every chapter has me on the edge of my seat. The series is so good. I was in the mood for something rough around all the edges. This fit the bill perfect.
