This book is about a man named Claus von Stauffenberg and his plot to kill Hitler. Stauffenberg was the main assassin who got the closest to killing Hitler. He was able to get a bomb into the same room as Hitler, get out before the timer ran out and then have the bomb explode only a few feet from Hitler himself. a few thing did go wrong with his plans though. he was only able to arm half the explosive that he had thanks to the lack of left hand and a couple of fingers on his right. Another thing that went wrong with Stauffenberg and the rest of the conspirators' plan is that it was too hot in the bunker in which the meeting was supposed to take place, the they held it in smaller wooden building. This is important because the air pressure in the bunker would have amplified the explosion almost tenfold. the small wooden building blew a wall out to release the pressure, therefore making the bomb less powerful. I could hardly relate to the hardships that Claus endured. of of his worst hardships he endured was losing his left eye, his left hand, two fingers on his right hand, and leg injuries that caused him to walk with a limp because his convoy was strafed by allied fighters in Africa. Now personally, I've never been shot at by planes soaring thousands of feet above my head, in fact I've never had anything close to that, and the worst injury I've had is a broken arm. I did like this book it was very informative and interesting, but, at times, being a biography, it got boring. Of course, my favorite part of this book was the planning and the execution of the final assassination attempt. It was cool to see the conspirators find the smallest loop in the Fuhrer's schedule and put someone on the inside up to the job. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the events of the second world war or anything to do with Hitler, the Nazis, and the fight against them.

This was a very interesting read about one of the major plots to assasinate Hitler devised by the military. A movie starring Tom Cruise was recently made and as far as I know stays very true to the actual details of what happened. This book is not exactally what I expected, I was wanting more of a historical account of what happened and this was more historical fiction. The facts seem to be true however, so it is not a huge loss or anything. The facts seem to be true however, so it is not a huge loss or anything. This book follows prime conspirator Count von Stauffenberg on his journey from reluctantly supporting the war to full blown hatred of hitler and a desire to kill him and end his regime. The specifics of his decision are largely speculative I would imagine, although none of it is contradictory or impossible to have happened. Overall great read both for a historical perspective on what went on that day and more fictionaly how Stauffenberg may have come to the decision that Hitler needed to die.

The authors' purpose for writing this book is for information. I thought reading this book would bring more of the history aspect but it was more of a story then like a text book reading. This contains how people wanted to be stealthy and try to eliminate the worst killer of the 20th century. The author also wrote this with the lines of historical fiction. The main character, Stauffenberg, had a huge hate for Hitler and wanted to end his terrible reign. The style for writing this book is descriptive. It describes everything that is happening in a scene and doesn't leave anything out. The main character has to face many challenges to plot and yet he over comes most except what he was truly going for. I wouldn't change anything about this since it's all true events that happened. I liked how the book was wrote since I love the topic of World War 2 and this is a major part of it.

Very interesting -told as a story. I often wondered on small details about whether what iwas reading was fact from a source like a journal or if it was made up by the author for the stories sake (ex: all the thoughts/dreams he had while inthe hospital).
