Good story. John had come home after receiving a message that his father had had a bad stroke. He has taken leave in order to help out on the ranch and try to reconnect with his twin brother. He and Brian hadn't seen each other or spoken in twelve years, after a misunderstanding over a girl and both being blamed for a deadly fire. Brian took the blame and sent John off to join the Navy. Now he's back and seeing Alicia again is bringing back memories of how it used to be. I felt some sympathy for Good story. He and Brian hadn't seen each other or spoken in twelve years, after a misunderstanding over a girl and both being blamed for a deadly fire. Brian took the blame and sent John off to join the Navy. Now he's back and seeing Alicia again is bringing back memories of how it used to be. I felt some sympathy for John as he didn't know what to expect when he got home. His father is worse than he expected, the ranch is in bad shape, and his brother tries to beat him up. John is glad he's there when Alicia's daughter is kidnapped. He swears to her that he will find Lauren and bring her home. He's had quite a bit of experience doing rescue missions overseas, so he expects that he won't have too much trouble. He doesn't expect Alicia to be as much of a distraction as she is, and overconfidence causes him to make some basic mistakes. Those things together with some general feelings of discontent have him rethinking his future. I had mixed feelings about Alicia. She was a fantastic mother, and had had a really bad time of things since her husband's death. Her in-laws are a real piece of work, and thanks to them she's barely making ends meet. She is terrified when her daughter is kidnapped, and goes to the only person she can think of who might be able to help. She's still mad at John for leaving without saying goodbye, but she also discovers that some of those old feelings are still there. She tries to resist them as they make her feel disloyal to her late husband. I got frustrated with her during the whole kidnapping event. In spite of everything that John told her, she spent an awful lot of time believing that if she could just get Lauren back everything would be fine. She couldn't get it through her head that everyone thought she had staged the kidnapping herself and getting Lauren into her hands would just make her look guiltier. Sometimes she would be strong and willing to do whatever John told her to do then she would turn around and turn into a horrible whiner. She did redeem herself at the end by being the one who kept her head. There were some very interesting twists and turns with the whole kidnapping plot. We knew early on who was behind it, but some of the details only came to light bit by bit. I liked seeing John call on his friend Dev for help, and liked seeing him deal with the fact that he got more help than he originally wanted. Dev provided a calm voice of reason when things would get a little heated. The secondary story of the estrangement between John and Brian was very good. As twins they should have always had each others' backs, but there had also been some problems over John's feelings for Alicia. The night of the fire, both John and Brian thought the other was guilty and they had never talked about it letting their feelings fester over the years. I loved seeing the way that they finally confronted those feelings and actually talked, thanks to Alicia treating them like the children they were behaving like. Once they actually talked, there ended up being more questions than answers, creating an excellent lead-in to Brian's book.

John Sloane got message that his dad home in Texas was ill. He rented a truck and drove straight to the ranch. He waved at people in town as he passed through. Waiting for him was his old girl friend Alicia of 12 years ago. She slapped him then kissed him and welcomed him home. John's dad had a stroke. His twin was not to welcoming home. They had not seen each other for 12 years. They both blamed each other and the town blamed Brian for a fire that happened back then. Alicia picked up her daughter Lauren from day care and then she was attacked and her daughter kidnapped. Alicia was left for dead. Her step mother-in-law and her new husband blamed Alicia for Lauren's kidnapping. Then they blamed Brian. The police arrested Brian. No one knew that John was home. He knew the only way to keep Alicia out of jail and get Brian out was too keep Alicia safe and find Lauren. He got a trusted neighbor to stay with his dad. He got Alicia to lay false trail where she was and called a member of his Navy Seal team to get him a ex-Navy seal who could give him backup and dig safely for information. Dev instead of getting him help showed up with the gear to help find Lauren and get his brother free. When they had found no evidence of Brian helping Alicia they let him go. His neighbor got Brian's hair like John's. So if anyone saw John they would think he was Brian. Brian could have a good alibi when needed. It was funny in a way because everyone in town knew that John and Brian were identical twins. But since everyone knew that Brian was in the Navy and could not get home to find out about his dad's health earlier most expected only Brian for being in town so he was clear. I really want to see Brian and Dev again with their own books. I really like them. I also wanted to see John and Alicia back together again. Alicia's husband had been dead for a few years. Then her father-in-law killed himself and left all his money to Lauren instead of his younger wife. The setting for the book is Texas. It is fast paced and does not slow down. Did not put the book down till I was finished reading it. The suspense was good you knew who the bad people were right off. But they needed to be got. The crime and setup was done with lots of planning and would have worked except that John came home at the right time. Their is one love scene. This is the first book I have read I believe of Angi Morgan but I will read more books by her based on this one in the future. I was given this ebook to read and in return asked to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Harlequin.

This reader cannot give this book a favourable review as I thought this book was a waste of time, paper and effort not only on the part of the author, the agent and the publisher but also on the part of this reader. It is the usual uninspired plot line of Hero returns home after years away and is reunited with an unrequited love who gets themselves into trouble and whom he has to save. With the typical ‘Happy Ever After’ ending. The characters did not ring true. The SEAL could not have been further from SEAL material if the author made him an actual seal. To make matters worse we are constantly reminded that he is an ex-Seal. The female lead was a waste of space and played the poor put upon female to a ‘t’. When the characters are allowed inner dialogue this is constantly repetitive and boring beyond belief. The good guys and the bad guys were obvious right from the get go and nothing was really left for the reader to ponder over. And without giving too much away, they got what they deserved. The author pays attention to the action part of the book but neglects character and plot development together with character back stories. There was little to no sexual chemistry between the main parties and nothing to get the reader caring about what would happen to them. This story has been done to death in many different styles, forms and set in many different scenarios and eras. Please authors come up with something more original, interesting and thought provoking for your readers. They will thank you for it. In short this reader found this novel to be an absolute waste of time paper and effort. Full Disclosure: ARC received from Netgalley for an honest review.

When Alicia Adams’ daughter is kidnapped, John is determined to help and jumps in fearlessly. This op might be off the books and he might be used to doing rescue missions but this one is posing many unfamiliar dangers for John. The most risky part is John’s feelings for Alicia. John is finding that he needs to regain her trust and also protect her from the kidnappers. He is also determining that the career that meant so much to him doesn’t compare to what he feels for Alicia. It all comes down to a daring scheme to show Alicia he can be the hero she needs because if he doesn’t he will end up breaking her heart all over again. This is an action packed story that takes some clever twists to make this one a very hard book to put down. The reader can really relate to the characters and sympathize with them as they deal with the nightmare their life has become. With every word the story comes to life and takes the reader there so they can feel what the characters are feeling. This is a nice second chance at love story that is sure to please readers. It will also leave the reader hoping for more books to see if the other characters get their own HEA.

Nice suspenseful story. John comes home after 12 years of being away. He didn't really have a clue what happened when he was gone. His home coming was to see his father who had, had a stroke. And repair his relationship with his identical twin Brian. Even though I really liked john, I focused on how much Brian had to suffer over the years, because of a big misunderstanding and I already couldn't wait for Brians story. Right off the twin brothers get into a brawl, then again towards the end. Then Nice suspenseful story. John comes home after 12 years of being away. I am scratching my head as how I can read the same author two books in a row and go from a 4.5 rating to a 1.5 rating. This book was rushed, made no sense in areas, no connection between the main characters and the development of the story lines were all over the place. Being that the first book I read by this author was so good, I will read the next in this series because I am glutton for punishment and also I am hoping this book was a fluke of awful.

This was an interesting story. I felt that it dragged a little too much. The inner dialogue each character had was just repetitive, too often. Other than that, this is an exciting suspenseful story. A flame from the past is reignited, family bonds repaired. A child kidnapped, twists and turns, the plot was thick. I enjoyed it. It didn't wow me. But, it was still a decent read. This was an interesting story. I felt that it dragged a little too much. The inner dialogue each character had was just repetitive, too often. John had received word that his father had had a serious stroke so he took leave from the Navy in order to go home and help out on the ranch and try to reconnect with his twin brother. He and his brother, Brian, hadn't seen each other or spoken since John enlisted twelve years earlier. They had both thought the other had caused a deadly fire but didn't talk about it to find out what really happened. Brian took the blame for the fire and sent John off to join the Navy. They had both thought the other had caused a deadly fire but didn't talk about it to find out what really happened. Brian took the blame for the fire and sent John off to join the Navy. Now John is back and seeing Alicia again is bringing back memories. Alicia had just picked up her daughter, Lauren, from day care when she was brutally attacked and her daughter kidnapped. Poor John didn't expect his father or the ranch to be as bad as they were when he got home. He is glad he's there when his ex-girlfriend's daughter is kidnapped because he's had quite a bit of experience doing rescue missions overseas, so he expects that he won't have too much trouble finding her. Alicia's step mother-in-law and her new husband are telling everyone that Alicia is responsible for Lauren's kidnapping. Then they blamed Brian too. The police arrested Brian. Since John and Brian were twins, it worked in his favour that no one knew that John was home. He knew he had to find Lauren fast or else Alicia would go to jail and Brian wouldn't get out. He came up with a plan to find Lauren by getting Alicia to lay a false trail of where she was and called a friend who was a member of his SEAL team to help him get information and for backup. I love books with Navy SEALs and always fall for the character but it surprised me that I didn't like the SEAL much in this book at first because he left and didn't return for so long. Once we found out why he left and stayed away, I liked him much more. Then he was everything I expected - and more. I liked Alicia because she was a good person and wonderful mother. There were times that I wasn't crazy about her though, like when she kept wanting to do just anything to get her daughter back. Very typical for a mother to act that way but she didn't think about how it would look if she actually did get Lauren back. She would look pretty guilty of the kidnapping. I felt sorry for her when she realized she still had feelings for John but didn't want to since she was still mad at him for leaving and she felt she was being disloyal to her late husband if she had feeling for someone else. I loved that this was far from your average love story. I hoped that John and Alica would get back together and since her husband had been dead for a few years, it was time for her to move on. The kidnapping plot was well done and was slowly reveled. The reader knew who was actually responsible for the kidnapping early in the story but not how it was arranged. The estrangement between the twin brothers added another twist to this wonderful story. I liked that they finally talked it out - with Alicia's help in forcing the issue. I like Angi Morgan's books and highly recommend this one.

Will the Sloane brothers be able to talk about the past and clear what could be a misunderstanding? Will Alicia be able to give John a chance at her heart? This is my first book by Ms. Morgan and I have to say that I’m looking forward to reading more of her books but most of all Brian’s story. The characters in this story were interesting and well developed. I really wanted to connect with the characters but I wasn’t able to. I really liked them and I really felt bad for Alicia and what she was going through. The writing is mostly clear and focused although there were some moments where at times I got lost with whose point of view I was on. John Sloane is a Navy SEAL and has been following orders in the military but now also at home and the one issuing the orders is his brother. It was hard to see that the Sloane twins were distant and to see that John was having a hard time being home. John needed to do his part now in taking care of his father after he had a major stroke. He also needed to see about taking care of the ranch. John was an alpha male, he held back his emotions and the tension between him and his brother was not going to be pretty when it all came out. Then when his ex-girlfriends daughter is kidnapped he decides to rescue her. Alicia Adams has had a difficult life since her husband passed away. Her mother in law has it in for her and wants the money that was left to her daughter, Lauren. When John shows up back into town she can’t believe that the moment she sees him she actually kisses him but then slaps him. I could not believe it. Only it gets worse from that point. When she finishes grocery shopping she is taken by surprise and she is left in her car tapped up in over a 100 degree temperature. She could have died and maybe that was the plan. I felt so bad for her and I was so happy that she was going to ask John to buy her vehicle in order for her to pay for a private investigator. Only that something happens in which John makes the executive decision of finding her daughter. Will they be able to save her before things get worse? Will Alicia be able to do what John tells her in order to not only keep her safe and her daughter? Navy SEAL Surrender was a good read. I could not believe that the action started practically at the very beginning. I know I said at the very beginning that I was not able to really connect with the characters but I know that I did feel Alicia’s despair, fear. I loved the storyline and how this could happen to anyone. I’m really hoping that some of the question that I had in this story will be answered in the next book. I truly recommend this read to all readers that love a little suspense with romance. I love when stories have happily ever afters. ARC provided by NetGalley for an Honest Review

He hadn't been back for twelve years and hadn't seen his Dad in three. There seemed to always be training, missions and debriefings, and never a chance to go home. In the second chapter we meet John's former high school girlfriend, now a widow with a four year old daughter Lauren. She is a home health nurse, but times are tough for her. Stopping at a grocery store on her way home from day care she is pulling Lauren from her car seat and is viciously knocked into the car, a hood shoved on her head, and duct tape on her arms and legs. Her daughter has been kidnapped, and she was left in a sweltering car in one hundred degree heat, trying desperately to free herself. It was a great start, but somehow Alicia's character was one minute brave and strong, the next enveloped in the "why me" scenario. John was trying to make amends with his brother Brian but too many secrets and lies stood in their way. Many times it was pointed out that John was a navy SEAL, but his actions were often not what you would expect from a seasoned naval officer. The characters were interesting, but I was a little confused in the beginning. Particularly with her in-laws and how they fit. I enjoyed the basic story, and the reconciliation of John with his family was enjoyable. I did like Brian, the twin that took all the blame for an accident that happened years ago, and rejection of the town handed out. It would be interesting to read his story. I received this novel from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

This was an exciting read, though I felt it sort of stretched the lines of believability in a non-paranormal book in some of what John and Alicia did to rescue the little girl. John - your pretty typical SEAL, though I admit I liked his reason for going into the Navy. I did however have issues with the fact that he and his twin didn't TALK about the fire until a good portion of the book was done, and for crying out loud, that was more than ten years later! They're twins...they should talk! ARGH. Buuut, hey, if they had, well, a good portion of this book might not have happened. Alicia - wow. She certainly got the short end of the stick when it came to in-laws. Kudos to her for being strong and determined not only to raise her daughter (with or without the trust fund that was left by her dead husband), but doing whatever it took to get the little girl back. I enjoyed this book in many places, just with a few misgivings about things. But that's me and I know other people might not see the same things I do. My 2 stars are actually 2.5. The book was action filled and had a great concept as far as backstory to the characters and plot, but the actual development of the plot and the characters' back stories was lacking. Several times I was confused because a little more explanation - and sometimes simple transitions - was needed. It is an easy summer read, though. However, I don't think I will read any other books by this author in the near future. My 2 stars are actually 2.5. Taxas Family Reckoning ( Navy Seal Surrender ) book#1 holds you in place to read more of the book. You find you're self wanting to help get the little girl back and have both Alicia and Brain free of the charges against them dropped. I recondmend that you read this wonderful series. It will keep you coming back to read more. Taxas Family Reckoning ( Navy Seal Surrender ) book#1 holds you in place to read more of the book. Very good book. I had read the second book before reading the first one (wasn't aware there were books about each family member). Book was exciting from the beginning and the plot keep you interested throughout the book. Very good book. I enjoyed Navy SEAL Surrender, it was full of drama, action, and emotions. Now I've got to read about his twin brother, Brian. I enjoyed Navy SEAL Surrender, it was full of drama, action, and emotions. Now I've got to read about his twin brother, Brian.
