I have read a few of Sarah Young's books and while they are encouraging and uplifting my only problem is that they are so ridiculously repetitive that really, you only need to pick one and not read them all. She has Jesus saying about 6 different things, and finds a way somehow to make 300 page books out of saying the same things over and over again just using different words of scenarios. I enjoyed this devotional, but not as much as Jesus Calling. This devotional was formatted differently in that is had a topic or thought for the day at the top, a correspondence between the reader and Jesus, and scripture at the end. The correspondence of the reader was typically questions, inhibitions, emotions, etc. that one might have. The devotions begin with Dear Jesus and are written as if the reader is writing to God. Then God responds to the reader. The scriptures at the end of the devot I enjoyed this devotional, but not as much as Jesus Calling. I am absolutely fanatical about Jesus Calling & Jesus Today; however, Dear Jesus just doesn't work well for me. There is a topical index in the back of the book to help you find relevant writings; however, this book is written in a dialogue format. For example, each devotion has four sections: Topic, Question, Answer & Scripture Reference. Let me give you a brief example—1)The very first devotion starts out section 1 with the Topic/Comment from the perspective of Jesus speaking. 2) Section 2 is I am absolutely fanatical about Jesus Calling & Jesus Today; however, Dear Jesus just doesn't work well for me. Section 4 is the scriptural reference related to the dialogue. Anyone confused yet, besides me? I'd like to take a moment to give an actual example from the book so as to be as completely fair & objective as I can be about this book. I randomly chose to use the very first devotion from page 12: 1) I, the Lover of your soul, understand you perfectly and love you eternally. (Jesus) 2) Dear Jesus, I'm thankful it is my soul You love, rather than my appearance or performance. So often, I'm dissatisfied with both of these, especially when I make them my focus. I'm grateful for Your perfect understanding, since I sometimes feel misunderstood or simply overlooked. Help me experience more fully Your compassionate, unfailing love. (Sarah) 3) Beloved, relax in My loving Presence. Let the Light of my Lovesick into your entire being. Rest deeply while I massage your thoughts and feelings, helping you change your focus from yourself to Me. Cease striving and know that I am God. I created you to know Me: to enjoy Me and center your life in Me ... (there's more in this section but I just wanted to give a general idea of the structure of the book.) (Jesus) 4) Scripture Section - Isaiah 54:10, Psalm 46:10, & Psalm 63:1-5 is printed out. I read through this for a couple of days and it just doesn't resonate as the question may not pertain to my life. Using the example above, presently, I'm not having any issues with my performance or my appearance so it just feels forced. Not to mention, I feel like a third party to an intimate conversation, almost an outsider. One last comment I'd like to make is that this is the fourth Sarah Young book that I purchased and the content seemed very familiar, almost recycled. After I read the forward of the book, I now see why—Sarah says, Most of the devotions in Dear Jesus begin with brief passages from Jesus Calling. I chose thought-provoking portions that I invite you to dive in, searching for hidden treasure.

My hidden thoughts seen transparently and answered by Jesus An awesome encouraging daily read. The things I've thought or worried about are common to all men. Jesus, the lover of these weak and self sufficient children that we are, speaks to the issues we face. He always answers in a sweet convicting uplifting way. Good devotional I much preferred "Jesus Calling," but this is another good devotional by Sarah Young in which she writes as if God is speaking directly to the reader. Maybe not as powerful as Jesus Calling but that could be because her style was more familiar. still seemed to have the perfect thing on the perfect day. Grateful for her gift and have passed it on!
