Funny and heart-warming, this tale of Beauty winding the ultimate Alpha Male around her little finger remains a classic among fans of Historical Romance. When adventurer Eben St. Claire’s horse is lamed in an accident, he is forced to seek refuge for the night in the isolated trading post where Henri Delacour lay dying. In a simple act of kindness, Eben helps the old man, who has fallen, back to his bed and brings him water. Henri repays the kindness by luring Eben into striking a bargain that he will soon have cause to regret. . . a devil’s deal that will destroy his plans and alter the course of his life, even while it fattens his coffers. Henri has offered to pay Eben a thousand dollars in gold to escort his sweet and dutiful daughter to the East and see her settled, and since Eben is already headed in that direction, it surely can’t be that bad. Yet, once the bargain is sealed, Eben discovers that Raven Delacour is a fully grown backwoods hellcat ready to try the limits of his patience and Eben is in a quandary. His promise to a dying man can’t be taken lightly… yet how does he keep his hands off the Frenchman’s beautiful daughter long enough to see her reintroduced to civilization? Warning: Adult content. Strong language and sexual situations.

I'm not sure how I was lead to this book but it sounded a lot better than it was, IMO. The author writes that even though this was originally published in the early 90's that she had completely revamped it and made it better for today's romance readers since she was releasing this in e-format. That wasn't really true. Maybe she did update it but it still felt old. And really the story was slow and boring. The story was a good idea but the way it all played out didn't work for me. This couple was hot and cold, especially him, and it got boring. Yes he wants her but he won't keep her, but he still wants her but she's an innocent and he won't keep her, but he wants her and he makes her want him but he knows he won't keep her... on an on. I never grew to like him, either of them really. It's too bad because the end of the story incorporates the brother Jace and he sounds like his story might be more interesting, however, I'm not going to fall for that! I was not into this book and I'm not going to believe that the second book will suddenly be better than the first.

Exciting book! As I read some of the other reviews, I am amused at the type of personalities an author chooses to instill in the characters. One reader was upset over the author's main female character, Raven's disposition. Her bratty attitude. If it weren't for the difference in personalities, the book would take on a different "flavor", if you will. Whether I personally dislike a character of not, it is the author's prerogative to the mold the character's personality to make them either compliment or conflict with other characters so the story has a theme and fluency. With that said, I have the book a 5 star rating because it contained the components I like in western romances. A thumbs up!👍

Absolutely love the h & H who have so much chemistry & a very volatile relationship. Unfortunately you do not know until the end of the book that there is a follow-up novella that can be purchased. But the book does end with a HEA.

Wonderful All's well that ends well and this story is proof of that. This was a fine story of adventure and love and romance and jealousy. I thoroughly enjoyed this story as I am sure you will too. Wonderful All's well that ends well and this story is proof of that. This was a fine story of adventure and love and romance and jealousy. An Enjoyable Read I enjoyed the book very much, the only thing was I felt it ended to quickly. I would have enjoyed some interaction between the hero and his brother besides the one time toward the end.

A wonderful western romantic novel! I really liked this story of two strong characters that were made for each other. Of course they had to learn about their love the hard way. Love did conquer all, life and love are wonderful. An exciting good book, thank you, Jack.

Good I enjoyed reading this book. Liked the main characters, but would have liked to know a little bit more about what happened to Eben's family. Good I enjoyed reading this book. Liked the main characters, but would have liked to know a little bit more about what happened to Eben's family.

Really good read.... It's funny and sometimes frustrated but in a way the couple are sweet and cute cause they are still young. well for the female character. I'm not a spoiler so I will just leave it at that. Really good read....
