In his most important book since "Cowboy Culture", David Dary gives readers an entertaining, informative, loving history of newspapering in the Old West--from the freewheeling days of the early 1800s, when all the news was a single editor's opinion, to the more balanced reporting of the wonderful small-town weeklies and exciting city newsrooms of the 20th century. 80 illus In his most important book since "Cowboy Culture", David Dary gives readers an entertaining, informative, loving history of newspapering in the Old West--from the freewheeling days of the early 1800s, when all the news was a single editor's opinion, to the more balanced reporting of the wonderful small-town weeklies and exciting city newsrooms of the 20th century. 80 illustrations.

To me this is the companion piece to go with "Newspapering in the Old West" by Robert Karolevitz. Karolevitz' book is a pictorial history - lots and lots and lots of pictures that give you a real feel for life as a printer/editor/publisher way back when in the Wild West. This book gives you a great deal more story and is filled with history and anecdotes and tall tales as woven by Drury and Townsend and De Quille and, of course, Mark Twain. Fun read!
