Political backgrounds, cuisine and history, Washington DC, contrary to popular belief is not a state but rather a district, which technically for all intents and purposes is an autonomous region that legally speaking, is not part of the United States (meaning technically it only operates on federal law). Up until the late 1940s, resident of the District of Columbia could not vote in federal elections this however was ratified in the early 1950s, to allow residents of the District full federal voting privileges. There is plenty of history and attractions to keep you occupied for far more than three days as an urban explorer in Washington DC. There is of course the most popular tourist such as touring the White House (you should call and get advance tickets. They run out fast) to one of the oldest Chinatown's in the United States, founded in the early 1800s there is also of course. Things like the national monument, which is a white stone obelisk dedicated to the ingenuity of humanity. There is also the national Mall (not a shopping center. A plaza), the mall is home to the famous Lincoln Memorial and the typing pool, at which Martin Luther king Junior stood to deliver his famous I have a dream speech the Vietnam war memorial, a giant black granite wall where all the names of the fallen serviceman from the conflict reside. However, if you are after, a more modern perspective of world culture and history, then you are definitely going to want to check out the Smithsonian Institution. Sometimes referred to as America's national Museum is technically seven museums each separate pavilion is dedicated to a different point in history from prehistoric to pop culture, aviation and space exploration, and everything in between is a fantastic way to spend a day. Even if you do not normally frequent museums on your vacation, the Smithsonian Institution is like no other museum in the world. And after a hard day of sightseeing and walking everywhere you will have worked up an appetite. There are hundreds of world-class restaurants and taverns that specialize in every cuisine imaginable (this is partly because of all the world embassies that reside in the district). So there will surely be something to suit everyone's taste, whether you are after a full complete meal or just some appetizers or even simply desert if it is considered edible somewhere in the world, it can be found in Washington DC. So if you find yourself in the mood to explore one of the great capital cities of the world, then head to Washington DC. But before you go pick up a copy of the Miss Passport mini three day unforgettable vacation itinerary as it will take all of the stress and worry out of planning your excursion away almost instantly. As I truly believe people should travel as often as they can to see as much of the world as their budget and schedules will allow traveling is one of those things that came open up horizons. Never thought possible and expand your worldview not to mention be extremely entertaining. And since my friend has never traveled very much, that if they wanted to kick off their resolution properly without getting too far outside their comfort zone and having to worry about international money exchanges having a passport and possible language barriers. They should see the nation's capital, as it is very cosmopolitan thanks to the influence of all the world diplomats that keep embassies in DC. Not to mention the international visitors that come in droves each and every year, I've always thought of Washington DC as an Epcot Center for grown-ups without the annoying costumed characters and better alcohol. For such a tiny guidebook it seems to be very well thought out and researched providing all the necessary information for a three-day itinerary set just the best hotels. The best tourist attractions etc. the book contains all the necessary information to contact each one of the hotels and attractions and even some of the bars and restaurants with the appropriate addresses. On top of this necessary information, however, the Miss Passport guide book also contains all sorts of interesting facts and intriguing bits of information that any new tourist might want to know sort of like having your fifth grade history teacher walking next to know if first you might think (like me) and a seven page guidebook, can't be much good. Well after reading it (which is why wanted to download it first. As I've been to DC before, and I wanted to make sure that a would-be world traveler could make sense of the information before being turned loose on society). A seven page guidebook can be extremely useful. The itinerary is solid and well founded meeting in easy-to-understand language that even a fourth grader could follow. And because it's only seven pages and is not financed by any of the leading travel companies is not overinflated with unnecessary information. Its only concern is making sure that the traveler has an excellent three-day excursion that they will not forget anytime soon. It's nice to know that there is someone out there producing guidebooks that can be followed simply and easily, resulting in an extremely good time.
