JERSEY HEAT jumps right in with the discovery of a dead body. While the focus of the story is on Pete Riper, a security guard at the local reservoir, the story introduces a plethora of interesting characters, several of which quite memorable. While Pete is the protagonist of the story, he is paired with the former sheriff, Buldo, most of the time and they work well by being complete opposites. Buldo is by the book to a fault, while Pete is more of a live life as at comes and hopefully the right choice will float to the top kind of person. My favorite character, though, is Artis Stukes, the driver for the antagonist of our story, Luke Mulcek, the head of that local reservoir. Artis is a driver, comedian, and bodyguard all rolled into one. I found myself liking him the best, because he is constantly reevaluating his situation, doing his best (and sometimes failing) to figure out the next move and, like Pete Riper, he has a smart mouth. I wish the book was more, as in more story, more action, more dialogue, but what the book is is a lot of fun, it just goes by too fast. It reminded me of GET SHORTY and BIG TROUBLE in way that the plot stumbled along happily and satisfyingly towards the conclusion. I would recommend this book to Elmore Leonard fans and anyone who wants a light, fun crime story. I am going to try another one of D'Agnese's books in the future. ***I received this book free as part of a Goodreads Giveaway!!!***

Breakneck-paced, and a very entertaining read. Buldo is the quintessential badass! If you dig Elmore Leonard, give this book a try.

Great book, well written. I didn't see the solving of the mystery as I thought it would end. Great ending to the book. Great book, well written. I didn't see the solving of the mystery as I thought it would end. Great ending to the book.
