This was a mixed bag. Nick is a hot movie star. Holly is a budding playwright and a survivor of domestic violence. Sparks are flying. … There was so much potential here. Romance books that star a heroine who has survived domestic abuse/violence are full of the possibility of brilliance. But Kyle doesn't use this plot point to her full advantage, which was disappointing to me. Holly was married to a man who became abusive when he lost his job and started drinking. (view spoiler)[When he came home one day to find her packing, he did a real number on her. She was leaving because she had found out that she was pregnant. He beat her so bad she miscarried – she also has permanent scars on her stomach from the belt. Nick's father is a wife-beater. He spent his childhood cowering in closets and listening to his mom getting beaten. (hide spoiler)] See how much she could do with this plot? I was so excited and filled with anticipation to see all the amazing places this would go. It went barely anywhere. Kyle just runs a hand lightly down the topic instead of grabbing on with both hands. It's disappointing. Another great and interesting topic is: dyslexia. Nick, an actor, has dyslexia. How fascinating! Think of all the potential here! So interesting. But nope. She barely even mentions this topic, I wondered why she even bothered including it. Such a waste of a good plot point. What else? Oh, yeah, he has a beard and that could have been HELLA FUN to read about. But no. There's only one beard line. ONE. *smh* Seriously, exploit that shit, Kyle. HOLLY: She was fine, she didn't annoy me. NICK: Oh, boy. Although basically he's an okay guy, sometimes he just rubbed me the wrong way. 1.) For instance, Holly goes to visit him in his hotel room at the beginning and he's kind of a jackass asking her What does your husband think about you coming to my hotel room like this?... Does he know you're here? WTF, dude? 2.) I hate that he calls her 'sweetheart' all the time. Every single time he did it, I grit my teeth. GRRRRRR. 3.) He's a bit pushy and forceful in a way I don't like. ”I have another engagement.” “No,” he said. “You don't.” Excuse me? Rude. 4.) ”You're going to have to try a lot harder to shake me, sweetheart.” He pushed off the doorframe, chest muscles rippling under his tight T-shirt... and started toward her. She took two steps back – straight into a table. “See?” He inched one leg between hers and braced a hand on the tabletop. “No more running.” Is this how you're choosing to treat someone who just got out of an abusive marriage?!?!?! Bad form. DO NOT LIKE. 5.) Also, giving her orders in bed. And not in a good way. Yes, there is a bad way and a good way. Like listen to this: ”That's right, sweetheart.” He disentangled his hand from her hair and with one finger traced the delicate shell of her ear. “Don't think.” He followed his finger with his tongue. “Just feel.” Um, I'll think if I want to. :p LOL But seriously, NO. This was kind of skeeving me out. Not to mention he has a habit of telling her to come when their having sex. I HATE when men pull this shit. What if she's not ready to come? What if she needs a few more minutes? You just sound like a moron. And a demanding moron. Ugh. Just let her come whenever she wants and stop trying to direct/predict it. Jeez Louise. 6.) He *&^%ing accuses her of flirting with another man when they are rehearsing. One: You TOLD her 'It's not forever, just one night, blah blah blah' so as far as I'm concerned you gave up your rights to jealousy, hombre. Two: It's SO OBVIOUS she was not into that creeper, are you (&*=ing blind!?!?!!? 7.) He tries to have sex with her in an alleyway. AN ALLEYWAY. I guess this isn't as bad as the time when I had to read about that woman giving a guy a blowjob in an ATM vestibule ( http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... ), but still. Not a good place to have sex. Also, pretty uncomfortable and seedy. Blergh. Not sexy. He also fingers her in a cab. WTF? Doesn't she deserve better than this? What about the time he attempts to finger her while they are having dinner with her whole family? Is this a thing that caught on after 50 Shades? Because it is disrespectful, rude, and humiliating. This guy is NOT classy. Bad. 8.) Nick loved women. He loved their sweet smell, their smooth skin, their silky hair. He especially loved pleasing them, hearing their soft moans and watching them buck and writhe as they came in his arms. Loving women, and loving to have sex with women are two COMPLETELY different things. See a later quote from Nick: For the first time in his life, he wanted to do more for a woman than give her brief sexual pleasure. I rest my case. 9.) ”I've been a good boy, haven't I?” Nick, for the love of all that is holy please never say that again. So disgusting. Ugh. ... I LIKED: Nick backs off when Holly tells him to back off. Nick doesn't press/inquire/make a big deal of (view spoiler)[the scars on Holly's stomach. (hide spoiler)] He asks her what she wants in bed. He's sweet and patient with her in bed. (Mostly.) These quotes: She pushed his shirt up over his stomach. He raised his head and shoulders, allowing her to tug it off. “Mmm. Yummy.” “I told you. I have food, baby. Ice cream.” “I like this better.” Cute. Cracked me up. His touch, like a magnet, drawing her blood to the surface of her skin. AND Exhaustion invading like crystalline Ambien, he closed his eyes and rested his head against the back of the chair. AND He moved toward her like a tidal wave of gorgeous in an ocean of ohmigod. AND One word – one look – and she was ready to throw off her clothes and beg him to do her in every yoga position imaginable. … Tl;dr – The sex could have been better. :( The plot could have been MUCH better. :( There were some good parts, but this was a muted, watered-down version of the book I wanted it to be. ... So, to reiterate, I've read 8 romance novels in quick succession, and there's only one I can recommend. Wicked Nights. And even that one isn't a "five-star romance" in my opinion, even though it's good. The search continues... 2 REAL STARS, 2 ROMANCE STARS Harlequin Blaze October 2014

Triple Threat, by Regina Kyle, is her debut novel and the 1st book in her "The Art Of Seduction" series. What a wonderful debut! Holly an upcoming playwright, and Nick an action hero actor, have a past. When they reunite for her Broadway play "The Lesser Vessel" the flames re-ignite and become sizzling hot. Will they have their second chance at love or will their pasts be their undoing? The author deals with serious issues with sensitivity and eloquence. I can't write an objective review of this book because it's close to my heart, by a friend and critique partner. But I've bought the book for five friends already this month and made myself popular because they all love the book. Why? Regina Kyle has a clever and sexy writing style and builds multidimensional heroes and heroines who need to work to be worthy of each other. The emotional themes are deep, the theatrical settings are fun, and the Art of Seduction series itself is top-notch. He's a swoon-worthy movie star with a heart of gold who knows his way around a bed. Holly Nelson is the brainiac from high school he never got the courage to ask out. When they meet up years later, she's a playwright trying to start a new life, and remarkably resistant to Nick's charms. He's in a mid-career funk and needs to go back to his acting roots on stage. She doesn't see him as the big-shot everyone else does, which is what makes her perfect for him. Except she's too busy for romance. In other words, she makes him work for it, and against saboteurs plotting against her play opening. Smart girl. You won't find a stronger high-heat romance than Triple Threat out there, and few more pleasant ways to spend your time reading. Subjectively speaking ;).

Add in some suspense in the form of life threatening accidents, and you have a well rounded book full of high heat, scorching sex, and the perfect dramatic ending, that is perfect if a theater book. I loved the characters. They were more than two people looking for sex. They had lives, goals, dreams and issues to overcome. The romance was well plotted and sexy, sexy, sexy! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

A sexy actor and a driven playwright come together in a story that jumps off the page with serious heat and drama to spare. Regina Kyle's debut is nothing short of amazing, bringing the pressures of Broadway together with characters who have amazing chemistry. You will be rooting for Nick and Holly, two people who have to look hard at their pasts in order to move forward. Loved it.

I loved this book! Holly and Nick jump off the page. Nick is a movie action hero and Holly is an upcoming playwright. Kyle really knows her way around acting and theaters and you get an insider look at that world as well as a compelling romance. The supporting characters are a real treat too. Nick's father is such a douche canoe. This is a fun book and I can't wait for the rest of the series.

So why 5 stars here, in this, my first-ever Blaze read? Spoiler Alert: I don't know how to hide a spoiler, but then again, it is pretty obvious early on that this book will deal with issues of domestic abuse, so I'm just going to put this right here. Despite all the sexy times HQN's Blaze line is known for, and in addition to the fun, fast pace of this author's voice, what makes this book special to me is the way it deftly handles a sensitive topic: domestic abuse (emotional and physical). Not only is this an issue which has touched my personal life, but I also volunteered in a domestic abuse shelter in college, donated to one while living in PA, and did pro bono Protection From Abuse cases while working as a lawyer in my pre-writing life. Needless to say, I've seen all kinds of abuse, and more importantly, understand the long-term fall-out of these situations. That is where I feel this author did a nice job...showing some long-term psychological effects on not only a victim of abuse (heroine), by also on someone who watched a loved one be abused (hero and his mom). I realize the book isn't "about" abuse, and I know there are women's fiction stories out there that really delve into this topic, but for a category romance to also include this story and do it so well, that is impressive. That's why I give it 5 stars. Beyond that, you have a smokin' hot hero, and a likable heroine, intrigue/mystery, theater...what's not to love? This is a quick, enjoyable read and one I recommend to those who like quippy (is that a word? LOL) dialogue and steamy sex scenes. Well done, Ms. Kyle.

First I want to say how thrilled I am to have had the opportunity to read and review this book for a fellow CTRWA member. Although I don't go to all the meetings I have to say Regina is a great person who always makes me laugh. She's got a great sense of humor and is a terrific writer. This book from page one to the end kept me on my toes and loving every minute of it. I absolutely loved the characters especially Nick Damone. "Triple Threat" by Regina Kyle was a very fun read. The main characters were very well crafted with depth and histories. They presented to me as people I would like to know in real life. I am hoping to read more about them in the next books in the series. The plot kept you reading as it was not at all 'predicable'. Ms. Kyle addresses real life issues with concern, care and knowledge and presents them very well. And of course, there is romance! Well done with plenty of 'sizzle'. What a fabulous debut from Regina Kyle. The thing I loved most about this book was how well she nailed the balance between sizzling sexual tension and high-stakes emotion. What a fabulous book. Hard to believe this is a debut book. Nick the hero is so hot but a really super nice guy too, perfect for the heroine, Holly. The author dealt with some important issues with honesty and sensitivity. Fun characters, witty dialogue and a touch of drama to go with the sizzling hot story. Looking forward to much, much more from this new author!

"The seriousness of the subject matter at the crux of this story is well appreciated as a departure from the typical Blaze romance. Heart-melting tenderness is displayed in both the tone of the book and within the bounds of this pairing" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars). Miniseries: The Art of Seduction

A very enjoyable and entertaining read about a famous film actor moving back to the Broadway stage, and the scriptwriter who just happens to be his high school crush. There's plenty of sizzle between the characters and the author has a lovely humour that shines through the dialogue. Highly recommended.

4.5 Stars. This was a fabulous debut from this author with a hot superstar hero and a heroine learning her strength after an abusive marriage. Now Nick is looking to expand his repertoire so he can ensure his longevity in the industry. The vehicle is a play about domestic violence, with Nick in the challenging role of the perp 4.5 Stars. Nick Damone and Holly had a moment fifteen years ago when she was sixteen. But she left a lasting impact on Nick before he went on to become a mega action star in Hollywood. Now Nick is looking to expand his repertoire so he can ensure his longevity in the industry. The vehicle is a play about domestic violence, with Nick in the challenging role of the perpetrator. What he doesn't realise, until he arrives at the audition, is that the play was written by Holly and it is based on personal experience. The connection that they only lightly touched upon back in their teens is explosive now and the smexy is seriously on the warm side. But it never overwhelms the story. The romance between Nick and Holly is warm, and funny and smoking hot, and emotional. There are seemingly good reasons why these two are not a long term option. Both have their scars and yet they are complimentary in many ways. It makes the HEA very satisfying. Overall this was a riveting read. I was pleased to only have to put it down briefly to get a meal ready for the starving men of the household. There was a small suspense plot which helped move things along a little. The resolution was a bit sudden death and the solution not all that satisfying for a mystery reader but it was a minor detail, easily skimmed over. Otherwise I couldn't really fault it.

Just did not believe his attraction for her in the present time, based on her behaviour in the first several chapters. His dyslexia. when added to the heavy emotional weight of both of their histories with family violence, plus her loss of a child made for a heavy read. I look to Harlequin Blaze for light, funny, witty sexy reads - Courageous topic to tackle, but I felt it was too dark for the Blaze line - I think it should have been under another Harlequin imprint.

This had some of the most awkward lines I have ever read in my life. A personal favorite: "What he wanted was for her to race him to the car, leap over the center console and ride him like a pogo stick to orgasm town." Oh. Uhhhhhh...okay then. But despite the awkward and kind of terrible writing, the story wasn't too bad. It definitely could have been worse, and while the resolution to the mystery came out of nowhere, the mystery itself was a fun little twist.

A great debut novel with characters that make you root for them. Nick struggles with facing up to the fact that he couldn't protect his mother from his father; Holly faces the mistakes she made with choosing and being with her ex. But the hallmark of the blaze line and of this book is the hot, steamy intimacy of the characters. Kyle makes you feel like you're in the bedroom with them.

I didn't think I would like it because the hero is an actor, but I loved it! Great characterization and steamy romance. Great read!
