I had high hopes for this one... And it does have a few good moments, although they are outweighed. It was all over for me when [warning - spoiler!:] Rasputin turns out to be alive after being assassinated... Need I go on?

Not super enjoyable to read. The writing isn't great and the dialogue is boring. All the characters sound the same; you can't differentiate between them. He uses first names, last names, and nicknames interchangeably so I sometimes found it hard to keep characters straight (especially since they didn't have distinctive personalities). Also noticed many typos which always bugs me.

You know a book is going to be quality when it was originally serialized on a tsarist apologia forum. The clunky, wooden prose is something Bloody Nikolasha himself would have "read with great pleasure".
