I give this a rating of 1st! Food Babe doesn't get bogged down with sciency stuff or, you know, big words. She is awesome! There aren't even any detractors on her Facebook page. Isn't that amazing? It's almost unbelievable! She still hasn't answered my questions, but I know she's busy doing important work at the beach. She must know what she's doing since she has all that awesome time to vacation and such. I love her and the foodbabearmy.

More pseudoscientific nonsense from another misinformed self promoting "expert". She refuses to understand or recognize scientific consensus and spreads only fear. Another of the hundreds of fad diets that pass quickly to the next, all of them sharing the common fact that they don't work. We need true education not fear-mongering based on pseudoscience and total misunderstanding of how biology and chemistry works. This is a work of fiction and opinion, not factual.

Read first chapter online. Lots of anecdotal evidence, fear mongering, very very bad understanding of basic science. Destined to be on the Dr. Oz show and then in bargain bins.

It is apparent that she is trying her best to do what she knows is right, and that is commendable. She shares some tips on how to change your health. They are fairly easy. She shares some tips on how to eat as healthy as possible when you are traveling. She describes ways that the food industry puts toxic ingredients into our food supply. I think all of those are important, and Vani does it in an easy to read book filled with great information.

Greatest Book EVER!!!! I'd love to know how many people who wrote bad reviews actually read Vani's book AND how many of the bad reviewers make their living off the food industry that she is exposing. Does it matter what dosage of a chemical in your food is "bad" for you? I don't want ANY chemical in my food at ANY time!!!!! The things being put in our food, unknown to us by the way, is not legal in most other countries. I could care less if Vani got her scientific knowledge from a chemistry lab in her basement. Bottom line is our government is all about money and could give a rats ass, which is in some of our food by the way, how our food supply is KILLING us! I am an overweight, out of shape, always feeling terrible woman. I didn't buy Vani's book for the 21 day weight loss blah blah blah. I found her blog and am mesmerized by this evil food industry and I bought her book for knowledge on how to read labels and what all the scientific garbage means to an average woman who had no idea how bad it really was. All you evil naysayers keep consuming your poisonous food while this FoodBabeArmy continues to fight. Write a book to prove her wrong, I always listen to both sides! So far all I've read is that the food industry makes excuses and tells us that the chemicals aren't harmful.... I call Bullshit! Why put them in our food in the first place, never can answer that.....

Based on a few quotes from the book floating around the interwebs, I shan't be bothered to even open it in the store when it comes out. This book is full of flat out lies and exaggerated anecdotes at best.

Do you know everything that is in the food you eat and how it can affect you? I don’t think most of us do. I follow The Food Babe on Facebook and while I don’t hang on her every word, I do admire her willingness to fight for better food choices for Americans. I follow The Food Babe on Facebook and while I don’t hang on her every word, I do admire her willingness to fight for better food choices for Americans. I think we should be able to clearly know what is in our food so we can make informed choices about what we buy. We don’t eat perfectly at our house, but we try to eat pretty healthy. A 100 percent real-food diet can be hard to come by (and expensive) in America. The Food Babe is not a nutritionist or scientist. She is just a normal person who has done a lot of researching and investigations into food products and companies. She uses her blog, social media and petitions to try and get companies to change the ingredients in their products. She has influenced Kraft, Chick-Fil-A and Subway. I signed up to get an advanced copy of her book, The Food Babe Way, to review. I was curious how she would present ideas in a book form. The information was presented in an interesting way and the book was easy to read. She offers information on some of the chemicals found in foods and why they are harmful. She also offers a 21-day plan to develop healthier habit, along with recipes and a 21-day meal plan. The healthier habit plan and meal plan do require some advanced planning on what ingredients to have on hand. For example, the first day you need to have lemons and cayenne on hand. Overall, though, I found the book a little disappointing. I think it was put together quickly since she mentions several recent petitions she started. There is common slang throughout the book. While there is a bibliography in the back to show her research, the facts are not cited throughout the book. Often, sources are not mentioned when she talks about a topic, she just speaks about it as fact. Some of her reasoning is just based on personal experience, too, such as using a filter on her showerhead giving her better hair and skin. This book is a good addition to anyone wanting to learn more about eating healthier or moving more towards eating real food. It should be balanced out with other books or Web sites that offer information on real food, though. Some other great places to look are 100 Days of Real Food (http://www.100daysofrealfood.com) and My Humble Kitchen (http://www.myhumblekitchen.com/). And if you eat cheap, your health will gravely suffer. You are what you eat, so don't be fast, easy, and cheap. My Dad has always liked fast food because it's cheap, and that's why he fed us at fast-food restaurants when we were kids. He just doesn't believe in spending a lot of money on food. Growing up in India, he was brought up to believe that food's sole purpose was to keep you alive, and you never wasted food. Buying food cheap was the only way to get it. After moving to the United States, he subsisted mostly on fast food because it was a good buy. Sadly, this reasoning meant that my dad never paid attention to the nutritional value of good food. Over time, he developed type 2 diabetes. Right before I started my blog, he got very ill and had to be rushed to the hospital. He spent days in the hospital with doctors and nurses poking and prodding him, trying to figure out what was wrong. He didn't feel well and he couldn't concentrate. A couple of months later, he had a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. His PSA was high, and the doctors confirmed that he had prostate cancer. It was stressful and saddening news, particularly because my mother-in-law had died just a year earlier from ovarian cancer. It was an overwhelming time for my family and me. I adore my dad, and I don't know what I'd do without him. Fortunately, the disease is in it's earliest stage. My dad found a doctor in Charlotte who advises "active surveillance": watching the situation, repeating the PSA test every three months, and following up with the doctor. My dad has also been advised to avoid red meat and dairy - two contributors to prostate cancer in men. I'm afraid that a lifetime of eating fast food has severely and irrevocably hurt my dad's health. It infuriates me that our food system, pushing cheap, additive-filled food, is so full of poison. I do not want to be part of this system, and nor should you. Give up fast food for the rest of your life - if you value that life."

This is a how to book to survive in the world of today where our food is filled with chemicals, GMOs and toxic ingredients that you will be shocked to learn about. The Food Babe Way also contains lots of fantastic recipes to cook good, healthy meals; many of which I have cooked for my own family. My daughter LOVES her ginger dressing which tastes exactly like the one in our favorite Japanese restaurant and I know exactly what's in it because I made it myself. As parents we not only care about the food we are eating, but we MUST become food educated because we're giving it to our kids. The Food Babe has again proven to be my food goddess and The Food Babe Way is my new bible in finding truly healthy choices for my family.

This book is something that EVERYONE needs to read. Seriously, all types of people living all different lifestyles. There are corporations out there that don't want anyone to read this and are doing what they can to get people not to buy the book. I am part of her Food Babe Army and I was able to get the chance to read her book before it was published and available for purchase. I respect her immensely and I am thankful for all of the research she has done, and the changes she has made in the food industry by speaking out. Definitely a book worth purchasing as you'll want to refer back to it, plus there are some great recipes!

THE FOOD BABE Break Free from the Hidden Toxins by Vani Hari, a food activist who has courageously put the heat on big food companies to disclose ingredients and remove toxic additives from their products; a must read for all Americans in our toxic world today! A much needed wake-up call, an education, and an informative guide in easy-to-read format, for a journey to living a clean and healthy lifestyle. A much needed wake-up call, an education, and an informative guide in easy-to-read format, for a journey to living a clean and healthy lifestyle. Even though I am very familiar with most everything Vani has included in her book, (picked up some new tips), an excellent choice for those who need to get off the fence and take this food journey seriously. A down to earth book, which I can give to my family to help them make changes. I wish this book had been offered some ten years ago, as had to conduct my own research. She is honest and driven and it takes this drive and determination to make changes especially fighting against the food giants. It is frustrating how the industry can hide facts, ingredients, and information harmful to humans. Wake up Americans, this is serious business! Our food industry is killing us. Our health, our families, our children, grandchildren, and our future is at stake. My personal experience: I am very obsessed with allergies, foods, toxins, wellness, and health facts. For the last fifteen years, I have been impassioned about learning how foods, medications, and our environment contributes to health; from toxins, allergies, to hormones. Years ago, I began experiencing series food allergies, and numerous other reactions described in this important book. I began a mountain of online research, books, and health food stores. I kept a food journal daily for years, recording ingredients, symptoms, heart rate, blood pressure, exercise, etc. Ultimately, the additives and preservatives were causing my issues from PVCs, tachycardia, irregular heartbeat, insomnia, stomach, sinus infections, headaches, and the list goes on and on. I spent years trying to get to the root of the problem, and yes, it is food. You are what you eat. After experiencing all sorts of allergic problems, from chemicals, medications, environment and mostly food allergies. It became so serious with emergency rooms visits, an array of allergy specialists, physicians, and cardiologist, etc. With full blown anaphylaxis (5 times-very scary), always carry an Epi-Pen presently. Over the course of two years, I began eliminating foods and seeing a big difference. I eat fresh organic vegetables, some fruits, quinoa, beans, lentils, and whole grains. For the last few years, I have experienced no heart palpitations, no anaphylactic attacks, no allergies, sinus issues, or stomach problems. I take no medications, or vitamins, no prescription drugs, or over the counter medications. I have tons of energy, healthy, fit, and have maintained a size 4 dress size, and will never go back to eating bad things. I have been a vegan for the last five years and stay away from all processed foods. Eliminating dairy, fast food, gluten, sugar, and meats have made a big impact on my life and health, as well as eliminating foods with additives and preservatives. I eat only organic and cook everything at home. I very seldom dine out as cannot trust what they put in foods. Alcohol is loaded with sulfites (which is a big thing I am allergic to), so only drink water. If I eat one thing with preservatives, my heart will go into overdrive and does not slow down for at least twenty four hours or longer. She is correct about the belly fat. Give up the chemicals and you will see results. It is not worth the risk to your health. On a side note: I am thrilled Panera Bread has taken the step recently with their cleaner journey mission; hope it will be an inspiration for others to follow, naming all NO, NO chemicals, additives, and preservatives in their foods; the ones which do not exist, and the ones which will be removed by 2016. Wow, think about it…if Panera has a list this long, can you imagine McDonalds or other fast food restaurants? Our children deserve optimum health and so do we! Even if you do not have serious allergies, or experiencing current health issues, this book is for anyone wanting to learn more, and also a gift to others for optimum health and wellness. You may be on the fence about going vegetarian or vegan, have celiac disease, or maybe looking for a change, and this this book is an excellent place to begin. You can try new things without giving up great food and stay healthy. Thank you, Vani Hari for your work, your dedication, and tenacity as you continue to empower others for a much needed change, and take steps to make the food industry accountable. As readers continue on this journey, would recommend a few other books which I have enjoyed, in addition to this one: "Tox-Sick by Suzanne Somers Cooking Allergy Free: Inspired Meals for Everyone by Jenna Short Deliciously Ella: 100+ Easy, Healthy, and Delicious Plant-Based, Gluten-Free Recipes by Ella Woodward

Okay. There are some extremely polarizing reviews! Luckily, I formed my opinions well before taking a Goodreads glance. I'll provide a small backstory on my food/exercise journey so there's a foundation for this review. I've been regularly exercising for years. I used to run on the treadmill in college, then found the benefits of interval training through Beachbody programs in 2009 after my daughter was born (Insanity by Shaun T was my first if you're curious). However, I was such a cardio junkie I refused to try any weight training....I thought it was mainly a "manly" exercise and I was worried I would look too muscular and not feminine. Two months ago I incorporated some of this in my routine, and it really has changed the way I feel. I'm embarrassed it took me 10+ years to try it. Rectifying these things, that only left my relationship with food. I love sugar. I love ALL the sugar. Since I do high intensity workouts, I never read food labels. As long as I was eating one dessert a day, portions that weren't wildly out of control, and good boxed cereal, what was the harm? Nothing really, but occasionally I didn't feel great. I had a pumpkin recipe where I was curious if I could swap the sugar for a substitute that wasn't artificial. I ran into the ingredients stevia and truvia. Googling the two sent me down a rabbit hole of information. I was at the library the next day and this book caught my eye on an end cap. There is a lot to gain from some of her tips. The one star reviews of people who think she's lying or refuse to read her "crap" are unfair. While I won't be following all of them, namely buying only organic coffee beans and making your own brew every day vs. Tim's or Starbucks (sorry lady, that's my treat), I still think her facts are sound. With any guide, you have to pick and choose what advice you think is realistic and suitable for your lifestyle. My big takeaways: 1) A smaller ingredient list on a box is usually best (more natural, less additives) 2) Good websites for baking materials (Thrive Market!) 3) The sickening 15 ingredients to avoid 4) The top items you should buy organic if you can afford to 5) How much/what type of fish you should eat 6) The best alternative sugar options (maple syrup, honey, stevia leaf) I understand food is crucial to our well-being. She loses points on her extremism and almost offensive sections on the perils of Wal-Mart over other grocers. It's insensitive to assume that everyone has access to a Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or even Kroger. She also bashes certain diet plans. I understood the main point- to highlight the detrimental effects harsh plans can have on health (as well as the difficulty sustaining these diets long-term), but the manner was definitely off-putting. I still think people should read this book- her data can be confirmed by other dieticians and basic physiology, and much of the info simply makes good sense. If you've read this book or others like it, I'd love to hear your thoughts and comparisons.

This is the book you absolutely HAVE to read if you want to know the tricks of the food industry and how you can use them to your advantage to be and stay healthy. Keeping GMOs, additives, and non-organic preservatives from your diet will literally save your life. See how the Food Babe is holding the food corporations accountable for what they're feeding the nation.
