It's okay, but not great. I thought the recipes were a bit too simplistic.

One of Rachael's first cookbook, this one focuses on entertaining for larger groups. As usual for Rachael there are few desserts as she's not a baker, but I'm intrigued by one of her recipes for a peanut butter kiss cookie. For larger groups, she includes menus and recipes for a tapas party, an Italian feast, a mix-n-match party with a selection of dips/spreads, what she calls pick-ups and nibbles.

I just bought this book for $1 at the used book store in our local library. I have to admit, I can't stand to watch Rachael Ray on TV. If you can't stand to listen to her, you know what I mean. However, when I skimmed through the book, I realized a few things. 1. I immediately saw several recipes that I would make. 2. it was only $1. 3. I didn't have to listen to Rachael Ray on TV! :) I love this book! The recipes are delicious, beautiful, and for the most part, easy. The recipes are delicious, beautiful, and for the most part, easy. I also like her ideas for entertaining. She gives great tips, plans entire get together menus and stresses the importance of the enjoyment of the person throwing the party. To quote her introduction: "There was a time before video games, VCR's, and personal computers when people - friends, family and neighbors - were their own entertainment. We did not plan and schedule every minute of every day. We had no use for home-entertaining divas and gurus because we did not care to formalize and accessorize our leisure time. Work was hard, and when it was over, this was our time to relax, visit with each other, and eat. Life was informal and we would drop in on one another. Somehow there was always enough food and drink to go around. This book is a plea to return, if only for a moment, to this other time and place." Makes me want to have a party!

Maybe they were a little too easy. If you don't have the time to write down your own recipes, this book will do. Not very impressive, but it might be good when you are frazzled and can't think properly.
