Olya Roohizadegan was imprisoned for her faith, and subjected to intense physical and mental torture, to try to force her to renounce her religion. She remained loyal to her faith and survived. In prison, she formed friendships with ten women and girls who had been arrested for teaching Bahai faith clases to children. They were all executed. Olya and her family were released and escaped to the USA were she countinues to try to alert the world of the plight of Iran's Bahais. But is anybody listening? The persecution of the Bahais continues in Iran, and few in the world have taken up their cause or protested the abuses by Iran's Islamo-Nazi regime.

As an Iranian and non-Bahai - Olya's story was truly a story that touched my heart and my mind. I always knew about the persecution and oppression of Bahai's inside of Iran; but Olya's story goes a step further and explains the details and harrowing tales of the oppression, summary executions, and terror inflicted upon the Bahai people and Bahai community inside of Iran through a tyrannical and fanatical terrorist regime. Olya's Story is a book about the authors experiances being a Baha'i in Iran. At the time she was there, there were many persecutions against Baha'is. It really brings to light the terrible things that were happening to the Baha'is in Iran. It's a sad book, but it is extremly informational and inspirational. It also is very exciting, recounting the details of many of her fellow prisoners and her torture and escape from Iran. Overall, it is an amzing book, and I would suggest it to anyone who want Olya's Story is a book about the authors experiances being a Baha'i in Iran. And then Olya herself has become a family friend, one of the loveliest and funniest (Iranian) women I've ever met. In fact, not only does she call her own son "The Faz", but she also offered to [re:]do my hair for me when I had dreadlocks. I should probably read this again. This was such a difficult book to read, and at the same time so inspiring. I am haunted by the atrocities visited upon the members of the Baha'i Faith during the time of the Iranian Revolution. In spite of gross injustices, they chose not to retaliate, nor to see themselves as victims, but instead believed themselves to be honored to sacrifice for the benefit of all mankind. This was such a difficult book to read, and at the same time so inspiring. I am haunted by the atrocities visited upon the members of the Baha'i Faith during the time of the Iranian Revolution. In spite of gross injustices, they chose not to retaliate, nor to see themselves as victims, but instead believed themselves to be honored to sacrifice for the benefit of all mankind.
