Olipa kerran kolme vuohipukkia, jotka viettivät aikaa niityllä heinää mutustellen. Mutta kas - eteen sattui muutamia sieniä, jotka muuttivat vuohet soturiksi, ninjaksi ja tietäjäksi. Vuohet päätyvät seikkailemaan linnaan, jossa he lopulta kohtaavat ilkeän trollin, Final Bossin. Suosikki-inhokkisadustani on kuoriutunut timantti! Tämä sarjakuva-albumi on Far Out Fairy Tales -sarjan parhaimmistoa. Me like!

Three Adventuresome Super Goats - What More Could You Want? So it looks like our author, Sean Tulien, sort of got the short straw when Stone Arch Books handed out the fairy tales for its "Far Out Fairy Tales" series, because Three Billy Goats Gruff has always struck me as one of the less compelling of the classic fairy tales. So it looks like our author, Sean Tulien, sort of got the short straw when Stone Arch Books handed out the fairy tales for its "Far Out Fairy Tales" series, because Three Billy Goats Gruff has always struck me as one of the less compelling of the classic fairy tales. But, by opting to treat the three goats as videogame heroes working through different levels of a castle in order to confront the big boss Troll, Tulien has managed to inject some energy and sly fun into the tale. Stone Arch Books has published a number of short, (40 pages), graphic novels under the general series name "Far Out Fairy Tales". The books offer interesting modern versions of well known tales, authored by people active in the middle grade or graphic novel worlds. Some of the books take the basic general outline of a tale and then rework it completely. Other books follow the original tale more faithfully but add jokes, winks and nods to the original. This book falls into the former category, (there isn't that much to work with with the original tale), and does a nice job of crafting a whiz bang adventure. This is fresh and upbeat stuff. It is not cynical or edgy, and Tulien embraces the videogame vibe and goes with it. This is all enhanced by the drawing, which is crisp and colorful, and emphasizes the characters rather than the scene backgrounds. Just like the story telling, the art is brisk and direct. These are supposed to be books for younger readers. Indeed, the books in the series could easily be the first graphic novels a young, (7 to 10-ish), kid reads. They succeed on that score. As a bonus, while they are accessible, understandable and entertaining, they are not puff pieces or lame franchise tie-ins. This is a fun story, well told. (Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

Kids will absolutely love this book. The classic tale takes an awesome turn in a fantastical retelling. It’s especially good for reluctant readers that appreciate video games. At first, the story appears to be like any other graphic novel - but then, after the goats eat mushrooms, they become superheroes and it looks just like a video game. All of the action will keep kids interested. I loved that it had the original story in the back of the book, along with discussion questions. As an adult, I Kids will absolutely love this book. Well, this was the one in the Far Out Fairy Tale series I was looking the most forward to. Those goats are adorable and that was enough for me. I really enjoyed this one and like the progression from ordinary goats to super goats and back. This was super cute.

Super cute retelling of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" where our heroes eat some funky mushrooms on the way to the hillside and get transported into a video game! This series is a little young for my collection, but they're still really fun. This was totally awesome! I laughed, I cried! (First part is true, second part not so much). It was super amusing. Lots of fun!

They get extra points for their use of panel layouts! Nice use of a Face-Hugger too.

Great illustrations!

Super cute. Good sense of humor.

This is based upon the billy goat gruff. The billy goats eat a magic mushroom that turns them into video game characters and they have to get out of the castle like you might in a video game. They learn that they were happier how they lived before and go back.

Very fun, a great graphic novel for children. Great way for kids to learn about how to retell and twist tales and make them their own. Always includes good questions and great information about the original fairy tales.
Pam –
The goats are transformed as part of a video game. They defeat the monsters and Big Boss to escape to the meadow to enjoy the grass. We see a hint at the end that there might be a continued story. The Far Out Fairy Tales series always ends with questions and challenges for readers.

Cute take on the classic story. My kids both liked reading it.

A video-game-esque retelling of a story that I've not seen done often. The 3 goats have different personalities that really distinguish themselves in the illustrations. Meh. Not that great.

This was probably my favorite of the three I've read so far. My boys liked its similarities to some video games they love. This was probably my favorite of the three I've read so far. My boys liked its similarities to some video games they love.

A really good adaption, I like the video game

A graphic novel reboot of the 3 billy goats gruff, this story is a little harder to follow than the other far our fairy tales but follows the same format with bold graphic illustrations and comic style of text. Complete with the original tale in back, visual representation questions and a glossary. Recommended for Gr. 2-5

Perfect retelling for my video game loving 5 year old. He was familiar with the original Billy Goats Gruff and loved this version. I liked that the goats got bored of the video game they transfered into when they ate funny mushrooms and decided to go back outside.
Holly Letson –
I was not impressed with this videogame-type retelling of the classic tale.
Beth –
Funny! I think all of the gamer kiddos will enjoy this graphic novel...plus the goats are super cute!
Samm –
Cute

3 1/2 stars. This series of retold fairy tales is really very clever. This one sets the three Billy Goats Gruff inside a video game. Plenty of humor.
Sarah –
Interesting. Fun.

I loved the face-hugger. It can be my friend.
