First is the mission to convince the Montoros family to return to Alma as its royal family. Second is the relationship that develops between Alex and Maria. Both are full of emotional turmoil. Alex and his delegation have been working for weeks to draft the documents that would convince the family that their place is in Alma. One member of the delegation is Maria, who used to work for him before she got promoted to another department. When they worked together they had an excellent working relationship, even a friendship of sorts. Being thrown together as much as they have on this trip, the attraction that simmered between them before has begun to boil over. Both try to resist because mixing business with pleasure is never a good idea. It was interesting to see this relationship develop. Maria and Alex had known each other for a long time, and unknown to Alex she had had a crush on him for just as long. But besides the problem of having a relationship with your boss, Maria's upbringing was far different than his. Maria never knew her father and her mother had had to work multiple jobs to support them. She has worked hard to get where she is, but she has no illusions about the differences between her and Alex. Alex had also been aware of Maria as more than a coworker, but has been able to keep himself under control. That is, until one of the Montoro princes seems to be paying an inordinate amount of attention to her. Suddenly he finds himself unexpectedly and almost uncontrollably jealous. When the attraction between them gets to the point where they can no longer resist, each of them seems to have a different outlook on it. Maria is of the opinion that it can only last while they are in Miami. Their country's old fashioned attitudes make it impossible for her to believe they can have anything once they are home. Alex is far more open minded and interested in pursuing more. But things get complicated when Alex misreads the growing friendship between Maria and Gabriel and says some very hurtful things to her. Maria is devastated by what he says, because she had fallen in love with him. I loved her response and her actions in the days afterward. She had tremendous inner strength and I loved seeing her stand up to him. It was especially great as Alex soon realized that he was in love with her and it was jealousy that had made him act so stupidly. I enjoyed watching him try to figure out how he was going to win her back. I liked the ending and seeing that Maria isn't too quick to give in to him. The other part of the story is the mission to convince the Montoros family to return to Alma to rule. It isn't an easy decision and a good portion of the book is devoted to the task. I liked getting to know each of the members of the family and seeing their reactions to the request. They are very happy with their lives in America and not sure they want to leave it behind. I am really looking forward to their stories.

I love how Maynard jumps right into the thick of the story, providing instant immersion for the reader. She wields her pen to create a wonderfully romantic tale that I thoroughly enjoyed. The combination of business relationship with sexual chemistry added to the complexity of it all. On top of that, they were quite intriguing characters in and of their own rights. Maria’s success at rising above the ashes and making something of herself put her in the spotlight in a very specific way. Her relationship with her mother took her from a character that I really liked to one that I loved. Alex’s focus on duty and what he should be doing, which directly conflicts with what he felt, made him quite a perplexing individual. You get a feel for the entire Montoro family and what they’re facing coming into this series while still focussing on these two fantastic main characters. I’ll admit that I’m a little bit in love with Isabella. She’s the perfect matriarch for the Montoro family. Maynard never fails to pen novels that capture you heart and soul. This one is no exception. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Alex and Maria have not only a working relationship, but also a friendship. They both know they shouldn't cross the coworkers to lovers line, but neither one can hold back. It's impossible to resist now that they're in such close quarters. But when Alex is convinced that Maria is interested in someone else, things start to change. She isn't, and she tells him she isn't, but he doesn't want to believe her, which causes her to get very upset. Now Alex has to figure out how to win her back, despite all her efforts to push him away. Minding Her Boss's Business is a cute little romp. I love the dynamic between coworkers, employers/employees, and bosses/assistants. And Alex and Maria are great for it--there's genuine caring and feelings, as friends and as more than friends. Janice Maynard doesn't disappoint! My Rating: Very Good

Minding Her Boss's Business is the first book in the Dynasties: The Montoros series. This romance sets the stage for what is to come for that particular family that is about to take the throne of their country of Alma. I have to admit that while knew the chemistry was very real between Maria and Alex, I harbored a little wish that she was the girl for Gabriel, the Alma prince. The reader is introduced to the whole family in this book and he is the one that really stands out to me. I absolutely can't wait to read his story. He's a bit of a playboy, but there's more to him than just that, and Janice really brought that through. But back to Alex and Maria. I liked that Alex wasn't the typical alpha male hero. He's a workaholic, but not arrogant in any way. In fact, his fault is his jealousy of Gabriel and his easy friendship with Maria. But when they finally get together, and it did take them long enough, things were electric and I really couldn't figure out how they got it so wrong afterwards. These two really liked each other, but somehow a few nights of mind blowing sex turned into an argument of sorts. I did like how strong Maria was, but I really didn't understand how they didn't manage to sort things out. Their conflict just wasn't what would have expected for them, however I did like their HEA. This was a great start to a new mini-series for the Desire line.

Minding Her Boss’s Business by Janice Maynard is a spectacular start to the Dynasties: The Montoros series. Maria Ferro has enjoyed her job working for Diplomat Alex Ramon. Currently they are in Miami on a sensitive mission to bring the exiled Montoros back to the throne. It’s a hard sell since the family have reinvented themselves in America. Maria has always had a crush on her boss but she never expected him to put the full court press on her. Alex Ramon has never mixed business with pleasure. But can Alex learn to trust the one woman that will be perfect for him? Alex and Maria have a wonderful working relationship but their romance is just off the charts. You find yourself routing that both these stubborn souls learn to love an life. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

It’s Alex’s job Reviewed at Romance Is Ageless Somehow I managed to read one story in this series out of order. And there is often so much that depends on the flow of a story line from one novel to another that I followed my own rule and went back to the very beginning. The small country of Alma is looking to reinstate its monarchy after seventy years ago abolishing the whole royalty line. Now one family’s blood ties to their past makes them the candidates for the new royal family… if they agree. It’s Alex’s job to make that happen if at all possible. Much is riding on this stateside trip to show respect to the family and offer them the best possible reasons for returning. Alex is possibly the world’s worst workaholic, at least by Maria’s observations. As part of the delegation they each have their separate roles, even though they work closely together. While Maria’s been harboring a slight crush for some time now, Alex has seemed oblivious to anything but work. This trip will change everything. For better… or worse is yet to be seen. With very little effort the groundwork for the world building of Dynasties: The Montoros was smoothly done. With just enough information, for now, we’re off on a tension filled mission to convince an American family that they really do want to be royalty. For real royalty. More details will emerge as we continue through the series but for now we’re meeting the main players in this international drama, and the changing of lives forever. Minding Her Boss’s Business brings us Alex and Maria’s story. On the surface these two would seem impossible to match up, but remember ‘still waters run deep’ is a saying for a reason. Alex will have his eyes opened to the reality of his feelings for Maria. And he will make every possible jealous, stupid, thoughtless mistake known to men in deep emotional denial. Maria is a strong woman, capable of far more than Alex believes. She’s become a central figure in these negotiations, through no true wish of her own, and while being in the spotlight doesn’t bother her, being constantly beside Alex is a totally different thing. Alex saw events through jealous eyes and Maria paid the price. I really liked Gabriel and I’m certainly looking forward to reading his story. There are a lot of misunderstandings and even miscommunication between Maria and Alex. The flow of Maria’s happiness, sudden crash, anger, hopelessness and resolve played so true and rather heartbreaking. And no, Alex certainly did not grovel enough, but then it was pretty amazing that he groveled at all. He knew he screwed up, now somehow he has to make it right. I enjoyed Minding Her Boss’s Business and I’m looking forward to starting the next story in this series. We’ve gotten brief glimpses of the characters we’ll be seeing throughout this series. It’s going to be quite the adventure to learn all of their personal stories. I own an e-book copy of this story.

I think I'm just really tired right now of these romances where the man doesn't listen or doesn't take the time to think about his actions and try to get past himself in order to have a successful relationship. (view spoiler)[He gets the girl without having put any real work into it except to realize he desperately wants her. That's just not enough. And she totally just gives in. Nope. Decent story of Alex and Maria whose job is to convince the Montoro family to come back to their ancestral island and re-claim the throne. The actual story focuses on the relationship between the two as they try to negotiate the pitfalls of boss/ aide.

I couldn’t believe that he made Maria feel light crap but she didn’t let it bother her besides a few tears she did what needed to be done. Alex knew he had hurt her but there was nothing he could do or is there. Minding Her Boss’s Business was a good read. I loved getting to know the Montoros Family and can’t wait to know them even better when they get their own book. This story was a quick read and the pace was perfect. The chemistry between Alex and Maria is passionate. I loved how Maria and Gabriel developed this great friendship and they would have been great together. Gabriel is this playboy but I think Maria would have been the person to balance him off. Then there was another interesting character that I would like to know more about and that is Bella she just sounds interesting. Alex was a man that was possessive but also a asshat at times. Maria was a very confident strong woman that deserved happiness. I totally recommend this read!! Received ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an Honest Review

I do enjoy reading series either about a family or a fictional kingdom in need of a king or queen. This series is about The Montoros and the need to bring back the monarchy to their country. I really enjoyed this book, which is kind of surprising. I'm generally not interested in office romances, but I enjoyed the plot line about the Alma heir. I think I actually like that plot line more than the romance, as I found Alex and Maria's romance unexciting and their miscommunication predictable. Maynard is definitely a great author and her writing is simple, yet powerful. I would love to read another book by her. Great plot line; so-so romance. **I received a copy of this book in exchange f I really enjoyed this book, which is kind of surprising. I liked this book, but the end was just sort of "here it is!" Typical Harlequin, really, but still. I liked Maria as a character and I'm always happy when the characters don't just jump into bed right away after just meeting. This was a nice little read, definitely one of those books I'd pick up if I just wanted something fun and short to read. The boss in this story is Diplomat Alex Ramon whose job/mission is to convince the young Montoros (brothers and sister) to return home and continue with the country's monarchy. They have established businesses and a life in Miami, so the desire to live in Alma is not appealing. As can be expected, there is tension between Alex, his aide Maria and Gabriel, one of the young Montoros. The story is predictable and a fun, light read. Thank you GoodReads for the book.
