Justin Kase buys ten acres in remote southwest Oregon, intending to hide from the world while he nursed his wounds. He never realized he would need the privacy to save himself, and those who relied on him, from a far worse fate. After living off the land and taking up the prepper lifestyle in an attempt to isolate himself from any more pain, Justin finds himself joining some survivors on the other side of the state near the small town of Nash City, Oregon after the United States was bombed by an unknown enemy. Justin and his small group of survivors manage to hold out, but when their supplies run low, they start looking for way to travel to Justin's home near Backstrap. The territory south of Backstrap has become the territory of the vicious Elkhiyda gang, who ruthlessly protect the area. As Justin picks up more straggling survivors, they make plans to move to Backstrap with fresh supplies, but he knows they're going to have to fight their way past the Elkhiyda to get to freedom. Can helping his new found family bring peace to Justin's soul? In this dark paranormal dystopian fantasy, the action is unending, the betrayal deep, and the fears are truly terrifying. A very different story that doesn't fall into any set genre. It is Dystopian, post-Apocalypse with a twist of humor, not from the characters being humorous rather woven into the story itself and possesses elements of the supernatural that are present and not present at the same time. Bonus: DEATH RATTLE - An American Short Story / Cruz and Natalie had prepared for the apocalypse. When it came many suffered. They were safe until the unexpected happened. Something they had not prepared for. INCLUDED FREE.

Yet Apokalyps is a wonderfully refreshing return to what the genre should be about. The characters are developed well, even from the outset of the book with no two-dimensional beings creeping in for the same of boosting the number of characters in the story in a vain effort to try and flesh out the wider world. Larry Dean Jackson is an extremely capable writer who does not need to rely on poorly crafted minor names to bring life to Apokalyps. The world is well established with a sense of history that doesn’t have to be laboriously laid out in order to exist. The character of Justin is perfectly suited to the principle role, helping to draw readers into the story and then once you are there, not let you out again. The plot isn’t overcomplicated but it is fast-paced and thrilling to the extent that as soon as you have started reading it will take something truly spectacular to make you put the book down again – so if you are planning to read it on the way to work, don’t plan on getting any work done when you get there. The twists in the plot are creative and well-hidden so that they manage to spring themselves on the reader at different points. It is not that you won’t see some of them coming, but you also won’t read the first chapter and be able to predict everything that happens next. For those who love computer games and the Fallout Series by Bethesda, you will adore this book as it makes you feel almost as though there should be the voice of Three-Dog bringing you updates from the Apokalyps world as you are reading along with the haunting melodies of The Ink Spots playing in the background.

This book isn't bad necessarily. In fact, in the right frame of mind I might actually read this whole book. I read a lot of fiction in this genre. Too much really. so when I see something that just seems like more of the same I usually don't finish it. That's the case here. This book isn't bad necessarily. Terrible Could not get past the second chapter. Double pages reading things twice. Terrible editing which does not let you get into the storyline.
