PJ is off “down under” – that is Australia! Along with his very own teeny suitcase and passport PJ is ready for more adventures. Fortunately, his stuffing doesn’t get lumpy on the plane ride and he and Emily are off to Dreamworld for some rides and fun. They visit two important parts of Australia – the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest where PJ meets a Lorikeet (I’ve seen Lorikeets in Australia – they’re sooo pretty!) As with its predecessor, the second adventure depicts protagonist PJ’s view of the story’s setting, in this case Australia, an airplane flying to the location, specifically Queensland. The narrative opens with PJ, who has a passport of his own, and his adoptive family taking a plane to the land down under, with their excursion in the country commenced by a visit to the theme park Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, which is indeed a real place. Illustrations show the family and their pet enduring several excursions in the park, such as a water ride, a shark encounter, and a ride known as the Tower of Terror, with no relation to the Disney Parks venues of the same identity. PJ further tries his hand at boogie boarding, and discovers the various wonders of the coral reef, meeting a friendly tortoise named Mr. Turkin who helps him back to his family when he becomes lost. The rainforest is the clan’s subsequent destination, where PJ meets another talking animal, in this case a lorikeet, who too assists him in his return back to his owners. The travelers further explore the wonders of egg-laying by a tortoise that happens to be Mr. Turkin’s wife, with she and her fellow female turtles afterward returning to the sea before their scion ultimately are hatched. Their final excursion consists of 4 x 4’ing on Australia’s beaches, after which they return home, and PJ has a talk with the family cat about the trip, the feline having been left behind. There is the incongruity of a character called Star Bear, due to his red and yellow stars and sunglasses, being hastily introduced in the concluding chapter, but otherwise, this is an enjoyable sequel that those who liked the first book will undoubtedly enjoy.

I'm going to start by telling you that Jackson really loved this book. He said this one was by far, his favorite of the two. In this book, PJ gets to go boogie boarding, which Jackson asked me why there were boogers on a board, which made me laugh and we had to take a break from reading. It also talks about the Great Barrier Reef, which they studied briefly in first grade so he knew about that and had a general idea of what PJ was seeing. It also talks about the Great Barrier Reef, which they studied briefly in first grade so he knew about that and had a general idea of what PJ was seeing. Another thing about these books we liked was the last chapter in both books PJ talking with the cat. In book one, he meets the household cat, but in book two it's a chat with the cat. Jackson didn't think it was so believable that PJ and the cat would be friends but they truly are and PJ recounts his adventures to the cat who misses him when he's gone. In fact, the cat uses PJ as a sort of pillow, until the cat finds Star Bear, which Jackson thought was hilarious. What I really liked about the book is that there is so much fun information about things we otherwise might not learn about. Jackson liked reading how sea turtles lay their eggs and agreed with Emily that they do, indeed, look like ping pong balls. Overall? We really liked this book as well. This is a really great series and we look forward to seeing more soon! You can find this book on Amazon as well, and I really think any child would enjoy these. It's a fun little book with a stuffed mouse who comes alive. Who doesn't love that?

PJ Mouse Teaches While Entertaining. The Travel Adventures of PJ Mouse in Queensland is a fun--and informative--look at Queensland from the childlike point of view of PJ Mouse. (And I will tell you--after a full day of school, they are the first to toss aside a book that teaches first and entertains later!) The Travel Adventures of PJ Mouse in Queensland Gives Kids a Quick Glimpse at a New Place. The book follows PJ's explorations (and misadventures)--and offers PJ (and readers) little discoveries about Australia and Queensland. Everything is new to PJ in the unfamiliar country--just as many things are new to children exploring a new country or culture for the first time. While the book doesn't go into heavy, textbook-like detail--it touches on the animals and some key sites that family travels may encounter in Queensland. Well-Placed Illustrations Dot the Chapter Book. The illustrations complement the pages of PJ's adventure story with fun images and splashes of bright color. The illustrations of PJ capture his personality--and the colors help pull readers into PJ's moments of excitement and wonder. Would I recommend The Travel Adventures of PJ Mouse in Queensland. This book was adorable. I think I enjoyed listening as the children read it aloud almost as much as they did. The author does a wonderful job sharing information with young readers in a fun, entertaining style. This book is a great way to introduce young readers to the wonders and excitement of traveling to a new place! As the author offers tidbits about PJ's trip--such as finding seats on an airplane; parents have the opportunity to further discuss those topics so that young ones know what to expect as they travel on their own adventures. While I see this as a great "tool" for family travelers with young children--it's a fun story about an adventurous mouse as well! I received a complimentary copy of this book for use in a blog review. All opinions are my own.

This is the second book in PJ's adventures, and now, the mouse takes a huge trip half-way around the world to Australia. The big plane ride, which is quite the adventure not only for a small mouse like PJ, already has his curiosity and excitement spiked, and does the same to the reader. I enjoyed this book more than the first one. The adventures have a quicker pace and throw PJ into situation kids themselves would love to dive into. As in the other book, the reader discovers Queensland, learns several facts, and simply gets a nice introduction to this foreign place and the different things there. The illustrations, done by the author's daughter, are simple but vibrant. My daughter and I both enjoyed looking through them, and found they fit perfectly to PJ adventures. I find this story fitting as a bedtime read. The chapters are broken down into small adventures, each one concentrating on a specific sight and/or place. Since each one also brings across new things about Queensland, the small breaks make it perfect for short read-aloud sessions. Although I did find this book a little nicer paced than the first one, I still felt as if it were talking down to the reader, and some things were a little overly expressed. Possibly unfamiliar terms are explained, which is nice but sometimes a bit much. It's clear that PJ has a lot to learn. . .but then, he is only a stuffed mouse. Summed up, this is a fun way for young readers to learn something about Queensland. PJ is adorable and a character kids will sympathize with. The pacing is steady, but that doesn't make this a race. It's a calmer story, which fits well with the topic and the information brought across. I recommend this as a read aloud in chapter increments, perfect as a bedtime story. After reading it, beware because kids will probably want to pack up, get on a plane and fly to Australia too. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was another cute installment of The Travel Adventures of PJ Mouse! Pretty much everything I said about the first book applies to this one as well. During his second adventure, PJ learns what a kangaroo is (he thinks it’s an Australian mouse!), that just because you go to the opposite side of the world does not mean you have to walk on your hands, why you can’t breathe underwater, some more vocabulary words, how trees can grow to be REALLY old, and more! He gets to ride the rides at Dreamworld, go boogie-boarding at the beach, go snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef (and talk to the fish–this chapter was my favorite. Very magical! I love the descriptions of the sea life underwater), get some help from a sea turtle and a lorikeet, explore the rainforest, watch loggerhead turtles lay eggs on the beach, and go four wheeling. I really enjoyed this adventure with little PJ, and think readers young and old will as well! Find this review and many more at That Artsy Reader Girl!

The Great Barrier Reef allows PJ to meet a new friend after nearly becoming lost. More adventures on the beach and in the rainforest create funny situations that PJ must try to get himself out of. These silly predicaments will help children with problem solving and remind them that getting help from others is sometimes necessary. Megan Elizabeth has created some gorgeous drawings to accompany this story. My favorite illustrations were during PJ's visit to the Great Barrier Reef. She also includes a illustrated map of the country with their journey marked out so the reader can see how far across the country they have traveled. I'm very impressed with this series of books and hope that PJ continues his adventures to other countries.

It’s non-stop adventure when PJ is around. The Travel Adventures of PJ Mouse in Queensland is easy and fun to read. PJ is always getting into a jam and has to be saved. Even though it’s a fun read, children learn about some of the interesting places in Queensland. A great book for children!
