This book is a nice way to let kids read classics, that would be really difficult in their original form.

I read this with my son, aged 7. I enjoy a bit of William Shakespeare every now and again, and everyone knows the story of Romeo and Juliet. This manages to break down what can be quite a complex story, into something palatable to a younger audience. It's broken up with pictures to accompany the text (something my son appreciated) and manages to engage the reader with words appropriate to the target audience. I would certainly look out for more titles in this series, as it's a great introduction I read this with my son, aged 7. I'd be really sheltered if I'd never heard the story of Romeo and Juliet before, but believe it or not, I've never read the play or even seen the Leo diCaprio movie! This was the first time I've actually got a feel for the actual events of the story, and honestly it doesn't inspire me to either read the original or finally watch a young Leonardo climb up a trellis. Having said that, this is super easy to read and very to the point - which I appreciated. Having said that, this is super easy to read and very to the point - which I appreciated. It would even be something I'd consider reading to my son, if I wasn't so opposed to the message within... and if I thought he'd sit still long enough to listen. Honestly, I don't like the story and never thought it was so amazing. Even when I was a moody and over dramatic teenager, I thought they were being a teensy bit extreme. Also it looks like the only reason Romeo was at that party in the first place is because he was trying to get over someone else?! And then he marries Juliet the next day? Can someone say rebound... Anyway, I'm glad I finally got more or less the whole story now, and I'm putting my dislike aside and suspending belief that people were this over dramatic knowing that this was supposed to shock audiences. What I choose to take from this is the fact that the Montague's and the Capulets finally figured out that lifelong family feuds are dumb and causes unnecessary strife. I'd say a solid Meh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Romeo and Juliet was the first Shakespeare play that I read. My class put on a condensed version of the play when I was ten, and I later read it in middle school. I think it is a good choice for introducing children to Shakespeare. This is a good version of the story. I liked the illustrations that went along with it. They would help children follow along with the story. Some of the men were drawn in a similar way, like Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt. Some of the men were drawn in a similar way, like Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt. But Romeo and Juliet were distinctly illustrated. I liked the way that some of the most famous lines from the play were paraphrased so modern children would understand. For instance, in the balcony scene, Juliet says “O Romeo, Romeo! Why do you have to be Romeo?” rather than “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” This way, children will learn what the characters are saying without getting confused by Shakespeare’s phrasing. At times I found the story to get a little confusing. Especially at the beginning, there is a lot of “he did this, then this, then this.” However, the main points of the story were clear. This is a great book to introduce children to Shakespeare. I received a copy of this book on NetGalley in exchange for a review.

Shakespeare created quite a world of literature that I feel carved its own niche in the world of books. This in itself is so remarkable. The language and art of writing is distinct and I believe it takes a while to get acquainted to. To love it, go with it or dislike it becomes ones' own decision. Hence the children's book collection is so great for little ones to get to know his beautiful stories at an early age. I love a good and romantic story and yes, this one is a classic. Great children's version of Shakespeare's play, but my kiddo doesn't care for all the death and poor representations of "love." "FIVE people DIE!"

Shakespeare can be a challenge for anyone to read and understand and this book fits in with most readers in enabling us all to get an understanding of the basic story before attempting the more challenging 16th Century English.
