Ballistics expert, Edward P. Rem, has proven mathematically that the missed rifle shot as recorded by the Dallas police motorcycle radio caused a preliminary loud bang as it passed the enclosed grassy knoll area at a supersonic speed of 2200 feet per second. According to the findings, "This `loud bang' has been misinterpreted by many as being an independent rifle shot from the grassy knoll, which it is not." In the two manuscripts (J.F.K. Assassination - Rifle Shots Phenomenon Exploded, and J.F.K. Assassination - The Smoking Gun), Mr. Rem shows in detail how this phenomenon occurred, and how it is scientifically proven by the acoustic report filed by Weiss and Aschkensay during the House Assassination Hearings. In 1994, the U.S. Department of Justice reviewed correspondence pertaining to these manuscripts by Mr. Rem, and concluded that it is appropriate that his findings be referred to the U.S. House of Representatives. It was also the expressed hope of Assistant U.S. Attorney General, Ms. Jo Ann Harris, that the findings of Mr. Rem be incorporated into the U.S. House of Representatives' files at that time. Just published in November of 2002, the book version of the manuscript has been distributed to each member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, in hopes that a Congressional member will sponsor the inclusion of these findings into the files of the House Assassination Hearings. Mr. Rem further supports these new ballistic findings with several examples of his first hand experiences in combat as an infantry sergeant during WW II. As he puts it, " I've been on the receiving end of all military hardware - the machine pistol, the rifle, the machine gun, the mortar, the artillery including the dreadful German 88mm, and on two occasions our own artillery. In combat, recognizing the acoustical aspects of ballistics is a matter of life and death." At the end of WW II, Edward Rem was honorably discharged from duty, having received two Silver Stars, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, and the allied Government of France's French Cross (the "Croix-De-Guerre" avec etoile de bronze). It is Mr. Rem's hope, as well as the hope of the Justice Department, that these new findings relating to the J.F.K. assassination will be recognized by the United States Congress.
