It is for the business professional who must write at work and want to product outstanding documents. In this book, you learn a systematic approached to edit and proofread any business document including email, letters, memos, reports, and proposals. It doesn’t matter what you are writing, how well you write it reflects on you. But as every writer will tell you, it is not the writing that makes for a good document. It is the editing and proofreading. That is what this book is about. Some of the things you will learn: • The Steps-to-Reviewing – a six-step process for editing and proofreading your documents so you can do a better job and do it faster. • Rewriting Sentences – a simple method for evaluating and rewriting sentences so you can quickly make them clear and concise. • Reviewing Other People’s Writing – tools to help you review other people’s writing and to coach them on improving their writing skill. • Proofreading Quickly and Accurately – ten techniques to make proofreading fast and more accurate. • Evaluating Paragraphs – a quick way to tell if your paragraph is well written and what to do about it if it is not. • Creating Reader-Friendly Documents – what make a document reader friendly and how you can do it with little or no effort. • Presenting Negative Information Positively – techniques for presenting negative information without upsetting your readers. • Editing Your Document With Microsoft Word® - seven ways you can use Microsoft Word to edit your documents saving you time and effort. • Getting Results – when a document works it get the results the writer wants. You will learn how to evaluate your documents to determine if they will get results. Editing and proofreading are the keys to writing good business documents. Yet few business professionals know how to do it well. So, in many cases, they skip it. As a result, they send confusing, badly written documents that reflects poorly on them and their organization. This is NOT an English book, nor is it a book on grammar, spelling, and punctuation. There are plenty of book you can get on those topics. It is NOT a book on how to write. It is a book on how to edit and proofread your business documents – not books of fiction, not cookbooks, not biographies, only business documents such as emails, memos, letters, reports, and proposals. The assumption in this book is that you have already written your document. It is either in draft form or final form and you need to review it. This book provides you with a how-to guide for reviewing, revising, editing, and proofreading your business documents. This guide is designed for busy business professionals who want a quick, easy way to improve their written documents. The reason I wrote this book is that I could not find any books that provided a systematic approach to editing business documents. Yet, everyone who writes should be editing their documents before sending them. As a Business Writing Trainer, I wanted a systematic approach to editing and proofreading that anyone could use to improve their writing. I was looking for a simple, step-by-step process, but I could not find one. In the end, I decided to create one based on my years of experience evaluating, revising, and rewriting business documents. The result is this book. I decide to focus on only one aspect of the writing process – editing and proofreading. Most writing book lump editing and proofreading into the writing process, often spending little or no time on how to do it. By focusing on only the editing and proofreading, I felt I could provide you with a more in depth coverage while keeping the book short.
