Hallie Flanagan is one painfully overlooked in theater history. She ran the Vassar Experimental Theater during its early days, and ran the Federal Theater during the depression. Honestly, without Flanagan, I'm not sure what the state of experimental or political theater would be in America. Bentley, Flanagan's step-daughter (and wife of Eric), obviously knows her stuff, both about Flanagan and about theater history. It certainly could have been better-written, but Flanagan is so fascinating a wom Hallie Flanagan is one painfully overlooked in theater history. A wonderful and loving biography. Hallie Flanagan is such an unsung hero. I really think American theatre would be a sad place without her work. It sparked more interest in the WPA - particularly the theatre project, but the WPA in general. Read it as research for another project that it didn't advance, but I hope to reread it later.
