I wish these books were around when Youngest Junior Hall was in school and reading the same book about dogs over and over again. I believe he might've actually put down the dog book! There is something so completely engaging and fresh about Hank Zipzer--just a great attitude despite his challenges with reading. But it's not the challenges he overcomes or how he deals with them that I think kids will love the most. It's just a funny story! I just finished reading this to my grandson. He just finished kindergarten and really enjoyed it. I would like to find other books in the series. Humorous and easy to read and understand, but with a positive message.

This is the 7th book of the series, but the first I've read. In this one even though Hank doesn't cook, he is thrust into a serious cooking competition with his cousin who wants desperately to win. Dexter (7yo) read. He thought it was pretty funny and even read some passages aloud to me.
