I read a biography about Jimmy Carter written by Mike Venezia. The biography detailed his early life and how it blended well with becoming a US president. Venezia went into detail about how President Carter traveled the country meeting people and even loosely discusses the political climate and how the people were ready for him to be president, as the timing was right. There is detail on his affects on the US and his changes to the Government that were made during his term. The biography was wri I read a biography about Jimmy Carter written by Mike Venezia. There is detail on his affects on the US and his changes to the Government that were made during his term. The biography was written and constructed well and had a good focus throughout. The interspersed, easy-to-understand political cartoons were a nice touch to blend satire and information to a younger reader. Even an older reader who is moving along with the younger can see the cartoons and also identify. The book is a good length overall and doesn't feel to burdened with excess stories and information about more non-essential events in Jimmy's life. The additional real photos help to provide more insight into his life and those around him. I would recommend this book to any intermediate or even primary reader looking to know more about Jimmy Carter.

Getting to Know the U.S. Presidents by Mike Venezia is my favorite picture book series on the Presidents. These books make history fun with their humorous cartoons and interesting, easy to follow facts. Elementary schools and libraries would be remiss in not purchasing the entire collection.
