    A personal account of the ten months that a sixty-four year old man spent fighting on the side of the Russians in the beginning of WWI. Caught at the outbreak of war visiting a friend near the eastern border of Germany, Mr. Morse flees to the east to what is now Poland and joins some Cossack forces until so injured (his feet were frostbitten and burned) that he could no longer be of any use in the fighting. An enjoyable and easy read, despite the blood and gore, it is amazing what this old man could endure and achieve.
