Today, the Subcommittee meets to discuss the issue of nuclear contamination in the Arctic Ocean. Last year, information began to be released, and earlier this year the Russian Government made available a report providing the first detailed account of the extent of dumping in the Arctic. This report confirmed what many had feared; that portions of the Arctic Ocean have been used for the last three decades as a repository for spent nuclear reactors and other nuclear wastes.
