Written in the early '80s, this book covers the early digital plague as it swept across the UK. Platt's First Law of Computers sums it up : "Whether a computer can do anything useful has always been beside the point. Simply fiddling with the thing is an obsession in itself." The book's chapters are numbered in binary, and flow charts feature regularly. The very first flow chart tell you how to read the book, line by line! The book's chapters are numbered in binary, and flow charts feature regularly. The very first flow chart tell you how to read the book, line by line! If the words make your eyes glaze over, the illustrations by Borin Van Loon will bring the message home. By the final chapter (1101), the book reaches Platt's Fifteenth Law of Computers : "We can laugh all we like at Micromaniacs, but they will have the last laugh - because they are designing the future that the rest of us will have to live in."
