Life was definitely not good for a witch named Zelda. Sure she was supposed to be a white healer, but she used her powers to get designer cloths for free and to go to a non-stop vacations on different paradise islands. Sure she was supposed to be a white healer, but she used her powers to get designer cloths for free and to go to a non-stop vacations on different paradise islands. It all suddenly ended when she accidentally drove over his familiar (a cat) - several times. So off she went into a special witch prison in (can you guess the place?) the city of Salem. Poor girl had to wear prison orange all the time - and she really hates orange: after all it is new black as we all know. Finally she was released with her magical power severely diminished on the condition that she had to perform a task she had to guess or become a mere mortal forever, I mean until the end of her life. Sounds easy? Read and find out for yourself. First things first: this is a paranormal romance. It does have all the cliches of the genre and can be used as a checklist for them. Sorry, scratch it: there was only one drop-dead handsome guy. Usually the genre requires at least two (go, team Jacob!) I asked for a recommendation for a funny book when I realized my most optimistic reads were at best depressing (grimdark overload?) Funny book is exactly what I got. It was quite amusing for about 20 first pages and then I began laughing. Not non-stop my-jaws-hurt kind of laugh, but laugh nonetheless. Just to give you an idea: people even briefly familiar with Eastern Slavic folk tales know this badass lady called Baba Yaga (Baba Roga for Southern Slavs - thanks to my friend Ivana). She flies in a mortar using a broom for steering. "Colorful" does not even begin to describe her. She is one of the main characters here, only she looks like a woman in her late thirties with taste in cloths coming straight from the good old eighties - I mean the extreme examples of this. And yes, she was wearing that Madonna-inspired outfit (Vogue). I found this depiction of her very much amusing. To make a long story short: if you want to read something that makes at least one of your brain cells work - even to half of its capacity - do not even look at this book. If you want to read a tale which makes a serious philosophical concept look funny - this book is not for you. Only if you want to read a brainless funny story with no deep meaning: this book might work. As for me I rate it with 4 stars, the same rating as I gave to some timeless classics. My fairly frequent bursts of laughter were worth it.

“Switching Hour, Magic & Mayhem Book 1” (SHMM) was written by the same author as the very entertaining “Hot Damned” series. Although it was published a year after the four “Hot Damned” books, SWMM sounded like a rough draft of what could have been an entertaining book. Perhaps the author wrote this in high school and published it years later without reviewing or editing it. Perhaps the author wrote this in high school and published it years later without reviewing or editing it. SHMM is not lesfic, nor does it have the witty dialogue, banter and snarky thoughts of Astrid and her friends. If you’ve read the blurb for SWMM, or seen the book on sale (I did both), you’ll be tempted to try this book. Please: resist temptation. I don’t want to use the spoilers tag, because I don’t want someone buying this book if my review could have stopped them. So I apologize for being more vague about plot devices that I hated that I’m just not gonna share. But I can share a few things from this book. First, the MC is annoying. She acknowledges to herself and everyone around her that she’s selfish and materialistic. Yet everyone loves her. WHY? Second….she spends nine months in prison for killing her cat (a familiar), but is released conditionally…only to have to perform a task. She’s given an envelope with the task (she can’t share it with her cellmate), but spends the rest of the book doing stupid stuff (picnics and sex) while wondering what her task is. Did she never open the flipping envelope??? Third…the cat she killed comes back (nine lives, I guess), but that doesn’t impact her prison sentence or duty to perform the task. The cat spends virtually every scene doing two things: one, speaking with a terrible voice (it’s nearly as bad looking at the Kindle version as it was on the audio), and two, licking his nutsack. She wakes up in bed to the cat every morning with Fabio licking his nutsack right in her face. Now, if you do read this book, and you make it to the end….tell me you don’t shout Ewwwwwww! and spin yourself in circles even if you’re in public!!! Fourth…this cat always wants Zelda to love him….so he uses stolen credit cards to buy her lots of expensive clothes, and makes her pancakes when she’s hungry. Offhand, I can’t think of the worst lesfic novel I’ve ever read/listened to….but I’m CERTAIN even that book would have had a better working definition of love and how one should behave to inspire it. Fifth….the book started with witches in power being mean and spiteful, accusing Zelda and her cellmate of not remembering that they were supposed to be “white” witches….doing good. But there was more joyful blasting of the evil Honey Badgers (I’m not making that up….the bad guys are flipping “Honey Badgers”) throughout the book than there was spreading niceness. Sixth….instalove and instasex and talking publicly about both over and over and over. The book was hetero and I’m not going to think about this or explain further. I’m Sooooo tempted to return this audiobook (the kindle version was free, on sale), but I’m not going to….I need to remind myself that bad books not only waste my time, but they waste my money. I’m also tempted to rate this book 2*, because the last 15 minutes were almost cute enough to lift it up from my hating the book….but then I realized I really disliked the narrator too, so 1* it is.

This took me so much longer to read than expected. You go for a quick read and then life gets in the way... I do have a feeling that some of the humor in this was immature at times. (example: all the licking balls references) but it had me busting out laughing, so I guess that shows how mature I am. If you just want something fun to enjoy and lift your mood this is a good book to read!

LOL. What! I can't even.. Too fast. Needed More depth. The heroine was so freakin shallow i wanted to zap her ass into shape! Sheesh. Everything was so fast paced.. i was jumping all over the place. Not cool. I may or may not continue the series.. or this author for that matter... We'll see ;-)

OMG I don't think I've laughed so hard at a book in a long time. The heroine is a total trip with her attitude and the way the says things. The story is something that grabs you and you don't want to leave. This book has witches and shifters and lots of comedy relief. It's a quick read that's makes you want to know more about this kooky witch. I loved it!

This was a romp, and a fun one. It's also way shorter than I expected, not least because excerpts for the next book start at the 66% mark. That is not an estimate. This is kind of an establishment story in that we learn where Zelda comes from (in the sense that she starts out an immature, shallow hedonist with very low self-esteem). And we see her mature and learn to find something worth living for rather than the simple pleasure-seeking she has done until this point. But that's much more serious This was a romp, and a fun one. And we see her mature and learn to find something worth living for rather than the simple pleasure-seeking she has done until this point. But that's much more serious than the story really is. Mostly this is Zelda stomping around in her (stylish, no really) combat boots doing what she has to to avoid being punished further. Along the way she snarks and argues and pushes people who need her away. Fortunately, the people she meets are both desperate for help and in a forgiving frame of mind and that gives Zelda time enough to start connecting to them—something that has apparently not happened in her life to this point. So this is a good example of a fast-paced, humorous tale with just enough seriousness to leaven it somewhat. Some developments were pretty obvious, and I'm seldom a fan of the destiny/mate thing, and Zelda hangs onto her "I'm a shallow person moving on as soon as I can" for way longer than made any real sense. Still, I laughed enough and enjoyed myself enough that I'm looking forward to picking up the next. A note about Steamy: There's only one explicit sex scene but in a story this short that's enough to push into the medium range of my steam tolerance. It was part of the whole "meant for each other" thing going on with the mate bond so I mostly ignored all the superlatives and was ready to get on with the story. Well, that's not entirely true because Mac and Zelda have excellent chemistry and their snarky banter was entertaining, even as they're busy getting busy.

I suppose this book had a few very sporadic decent moments, but overall it was alarmingly bad. It was just plain dumb. The writing wasn't all terrible... the problem was that the author was trying too hard to be funny and sassy. Unfortunately, in this case it just came out sounding selfish and immature. Her attitude and the situations she was put in just felt like middle school/high school melodrama from kids just figuring out they've got a taste for it. I originally picked up this book because I liked the Charley Davidson series and thought it might be a witchy version of that same humor and levity. Nope. The main character was shallow, petty and selfish. Somehow the author thought the proper way to deal with this and make it funny was to have the character herself repeatedly point it out. The story wasn't any better. I honestly just felt stupid reading it. Here's the thing: it's hard not to feel stupid when the main villain that's wreaking havoc on your characters is...wait for it....honey badgers. Fucking honey badgers. (No, they weren't even shifters...not that that would make it much better, really). That was their grand enemy. "I'm not gonna let you fight the honey badgers alone!" the male lead exclaims. Seriously? Seriously? It was the evil honey badgers vs other woodland creatures--who were shifters--in a story that was like Bambi gone wrong. I mean holy hell. (view spoiler)[Spare yourself the shame of reading a scene where honey badgers storm a night club. (hide spoiler)] She was just there to heal them when injured in a seemingly epic battle for territory (read: the forest in the immediate vicinity of her house). Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. It was only 178 pages, which meant it was all done and finished quickly. Thank God. That's the only reason I finished it. I won't be reading book two.

I've said it before (and I truly mean it), Robyn Peterman is seriously warped! Again she has created another messed up cast of characters that you'll fall in love with. Zelda has absolutely no filter, so everything out of her mouth will make you laugh! And Mac...not messed up, but seriously sexy. Lots of fun that leaves you wanting more, and more, and more.....

Oh did I mention she ran over her cat. Yeah squished him good . So off to West Virginia she goes with no idea of what she is suppose to do. To beat it all she ends up being the mate of a hotter then hot werewolf and the saviour to the shifter world . What is a poor witch to do but hope for the best and hope they are so wrong . Oh my god I absolutely love the characters in this book. Zelda is so self absorbed , its so cool to read . She is trying to be good after being let out of jail but you can see her struggling at trying to be good. She finds herself and finds out she is a great healer to the shifters . She is zany in all ways , she is off balance and zany. She speaks her mind and is wisecracking. The best character in the book in my opinion is Fabio , the poor cat that is more then he seems . The poor cat has been run over and buried , then resurrected. He has a tendency to lick his balls in the most inopportune times and loves to steal fashion for Zelda. The cast of shifters are so funny and sweet all at the same time . They all come to care and love Zelda. Then there is Mac the hotter then hot wolf. Oh he is pantie dropping hot and wants Zelda so badly. He is the alpha of the shifter colony in Ass crack West Virginia . He is your typical alpha male . Good looks , hot body and attitude that goes with all good alpha males . Throw them all together you have the makings for a zany cast of characters that will make you happy . This is a book that you want to read to put you in a great mood . They zany cast of characters will keep you reading. You will giggle and laugh out loud as you watch Zelda and the gang. I love Robyn's books , I love the way she can make you smile as you read them . She comes up with some great one liners and some great words . That I seem to use in my daily life more often then not . Her characters are quirky , off balance and sometimes just down right rude but you will fall in love with them all . So if you like quirky stories with a paranormal twist , this is the book for you . Check out all of Robyn's books , you will laugh and laugh . I promise

Ugh, what an annoyingly shallow heroine... and that clingy, ball licking cat familiar! Okay, so there was a reason for his adoring ways, but still... While I think its great that Robyn Peterman has got a large following & I'm always grateful for a freebie, I'm happy this story works as a standalone because I will not be continuing this series. (Personally, I have been checking into the travel costs in hope that I may be moving there myself! :-) ) So very many great parts that I would love to share, but there is no way I would spoil this story for you! This is one SHIFTASTIC story that truly needs no introduction, nor do you need to know anything beyond how PAWSITIVELY SHIFTTACULAR & MAGICALLY DELICIOUS it is! Of course there is that trademark humor of Robyn’s, but there is also a truly marvelous storyline to not only catch your attention, but keep it! I mean, come on! It is a Robyn Peterman book for Baba Yaga's sake! Nuff said! Beyond all of the quirkiness there is a PAWMAZING storyline that is further enriched by the Furry Tail like atmosphere. “So I hear you're the king. You wanna be my queen?” Don't get me wrong! I LOVE the humor and that aforementioned quirkiness! After all that is why I love these books of Robyn's! But WOW! I was blown-away by the FURRIFIC story too! Hotness, friendship, shockers at every turn – only one of witch, I mean which, I was able to figure out ahead of time! – and oh so BEARY much more!!!! Soooooo PAWESOME! No matter how many books of Robyn's that I have read, I have loved every. single. one. and this one is no different! She ALWAYS captivates & amazes me, while at the same time making me drool & pant over those FANGTASTIC men that star in her books! In fact, all of her characters are all so well-developed (Wow! You can take that so many ways! naughty wink) that I hope that each character gets their own story. Partly so that I have more to read :) but mostly because I become so attached to them all! They all have these great personalities that bring more depth & enrichment to the storyline, as well as having their own history, or a story that is just begging to be told – from the skunk to the deer, the bear to the ….well you get the idea! I love the range of emotions I went through on this journey – from laughing until I peed my pants, crying until my eyes were swollen, going mushy at the sweet & tender moments, getting hot & bothered from the…sorry! Gotta leave something for your to discover on your own Switching Hour journey. Okay, I will admit to bawling near the ending, but they were mostly happy sobs! All of this – and more - should go a long way in proving just how fantabulously talented Robyn is and why YOU NEED TO READ HER BOOKS! There is NO WAY you could not love them!! Now you can see why I have dubbed her the Queen of Uproariously Extraordinarily Entertaining Novels (QUEEN)! I heart Robyn!

The story in this series concerns Zelda, a self-centered, self obsessed witch with a serious taste for designer duds and all the good things in life. She is sent packing to find her calling in life, after her release from witchy prison for abusing her powers. She ends up in Asscrack, West Virginia and finds not only has she inherited her Aunt Hildy's house, but her business as well. Following along on her journey is her familiar Fabio, a cat with a serious ball-licking fetish (his balls, no one else's). Yes, the cat she ran over - repeatedly - and killed, and for which she was imprisoned. The novel is filled with Zelda and her cat's smartarse asides, a host of furry shifter beasties and one seriously horny werewolf who thinks she's his "mate". A mystery in which Zelda tries to find out who killed her Aunt Hildy, this is not a serious book, just pure reading entertainment with guffaws galore. As a warning, for those that prefer "clean" novels, there is one erotic sex scene between Zeldy and Mac the Werewolf, her possible mate. (What is it with werewolves being complete hornbags??)

Outrageously fun and super funny with characters that will make you wish they were real! I LURVE Robyn Peterman and her style of writing. She writes some seriously good books with lots of hilarious moments and sexy ones too. Rating: 1 star I can't continue with this book anymore. I'm not a fan of supernatural plot lines, and this one was so far out of my league... Talking animals, animal-people, insta-love, weird relationships, swearing every second line...it's not for me. And I don't recommend it to anyone (even though it is free).

"Switching Hour" a "Magic and Mayhem Book 1" is another fantastic addition to the collection of paranormal romance novels by Robyn Peterman. Zelda starts out materialistic and self absorbed. She just finished spending nine months in a prison for witches due to her obsession with high end fashion and running over her familiar. Now on probation, she has a month to complete a task or face being turned into a mortal. Can Zelda find her place in the world, or will she return to her nomadic ways? Overall, this is another fun novel featuring a slightly unbalanced but loveable female protagonist. The secondary characters are wacky as well, but in a good way. If you like Robyn Peterman's other novels, you'll enjoy this one as well.

Laughs and love by Robyn Peterman. Zelda is a witch who has been in jail for irresponsible use of her magic killing her familiar by running over him with her car. When she is released from the pokey she is sent to West Virginia to take over the role of Shifter Whisperer, and she is unhappy about it. The dialogue is witty and laugh out loud funny. As Zelda gets to know all of the amazing characters in town they all start to grow on her, and she starts to learn what it means to use her magic for the Laughs and love by Robyn Peterman. I look forward to the next installment to see what crazy ride Zelda embarks on next.
